On the left hand page it looks like a face peeking between some trees. I was hoping you didn’t cover it up. This piece is gorgeous. So glad I found your channel ❤
It’s just amazing how you built up these pages. Who would have thought ‘scraps’ could inspire something so beautiful. You definitely have an Artist’s soul!
Love how you just get on with it and don't get precious. I find that when I don't agonize the process feels better and I tend to love the outcome more because happy accidents occur. Love that you use your fingers and your work space is human and organic. Thank you for sharing your process.
You're so welcome! I agree! The less I fuss around the happier I usually am with the results. It's just a matter of letting go and trusting the process. Easier said than done sometimes!
Thank you so much Erin, I really really enjoyed watching you create this beautiful and unique spread. I never get interesting backdrop papers like you have. Absolutely amazing and beautiful too, I really really love ❤❤❤❤ your process and your artwork too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
Another beautiful page. I could just sit and watch your process all day long. I also use under page I think sometimes it’s just looks so fabulous. I am deliberate when I put color on my under page so that it looks like some thing I can use I’m not real random with it, but it’s fun to work with
I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago and have binge watched most of your videos. I love your process! Why the graph journal? Also, saw peeks of the other pages in this journal. Would you consider a flip through? I have always loved the art that happens when we're not looking. Thank you for showing a way to transform it! Please keep filming. I find your videos calming and educational at the same time.
Welcome! Thanks so much for the kind feedback! I like the graph paper journal for a few reasons. It was just so cheap. I think I paid $5 for it! I also like how the lined paper shows through. I think it's a cool addition to the pages. I also think you can be less inhibited when you are working in a cheap old notebook rather than a beautiful pristine expensive journal. You don't feel like you are going to ruin it. When it's complete, I'll definitely film a flip through.
Oh Erin, your page turned out beautifully 😍 as soon as I saw this underpaper I thought, yes, trees and a wood or a corner of a wood! The stamps resembled the knots in the bark of the trees 🌳 I love this page so much ❤ TYSMFS 🌹I have subscribed to your channel 😀 ❤
Sometimes it really does work. Also, if you are having a hard time getting motivated you can tell yourself only 15 minutes but usually once you get going you get sucked in for longer!
Gesso is thinner, I find, so spreads around the page more easily and gives a dreamy quality and it's cheaper which is really the main reason I use it. But you can certainly just use white paint if you have it. Maybe thin it with a bit of water.
New subscriber to your channel here and on IG. Absolutely love your style and process Erin. I look forward to catching up watching more videos. (I totally saw birch trees when you applied your first paper). Thank you for sharing your amazing talent!🥰
Hi! I just discovered you and I'm very glad... I love the way you simplify everything... I would very much like to know what you're using as "under paper" and where you buy it if you please! TIA
Underpaper is simply the paper you put under your artwork to protect your work surface. Overtime it gets marked up with paint and other messiness. I use butcher paper and buy it in large rolls online.
Underpaper is the paper you put down under your projects. I use mine several times and get paint and stamps and marks all over it. You can then use that paper as the base for another project. I have no idea how I made this underpaper. I think I was painting square pieces of paper black and I went off the edges onto the underpaper. I think I might have used a gift card?? Not sure.
Underpaper is the paper you place on your worksurface to protect it from paint etc. After a time of working in your journal, the paper gets covered in marks and paint and becomes just a big mess but it is fun to save it because sometimes beautiful random things appear on it and it works as a great jumping off point for a journal page.
Yes. It's the protective paper you put on your work surface on top of which you create your art. All the mess lands on the underpaper rather than your table. That mess of paper can be great to use in future journal pages.
Love this page. I can see a person hiding behind the trees. You can just see half of her face and one eye, and a shadow of her nose and a corner of her mouth.
Oh, did I ever enjoy this video. I've been dealing with cancer, hospitals and chemo, so this took me away from it all. Thank you!!
I'm so sorry to hear that, Carol! I'm glad my little video helped you escape for a bit! Best wishes to you during your recovery!
I hope that you feel better soon! Sending prayers and good thoughts your way!
Hi there Carol❤
Hang in there Carol… you are not alone. Be strong, be brave.❤
Praying for you Carol.
I love your under paper. It looks like a whimsical forest of trees.
Thanks so much!!
I love underpaper. It's more interesting than anything I could try to contrive. I also like the serendipity and lack of control that comes with it.
thank you!!

Great page. I think underpapers are often the best parts of creating too.
Yes they are!
It’s just amazing how you built up these pages. Who would have thought ‘scraps’ could inspire something so beautiful. You definitely have an Artist’s soul!

I love this. Great idea. Your under paper reminds me of birch trees.
I can see that!!
Love love this! I “discovered“ my under papers 4 or 5 years ago and now I treasure them.
They can be great treasures for sure! I also save my palette paper and use that in projects as well.
I do throw away a lot of underpaper that is just a mess but once in while something really beautiful shows up.
This is just stunning! I save my under papers, brush-cleaning papers, and brayer-cleaning papers for this very reason.
They can really turn into something amazing sometimes!

I’ll admit to putting extra paint down on my under paper in a more deliberate way sometimes with the thought of using it later.
I've never watched one of your videos before, but this was absolutely lovely.I love your page
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
You’re so good at this! 😅 Every page I’ve seen you create on TH-cam is wonderful. They’re definitely a work of art.
You are too kind! Thank you!!

Nice page. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Erin...advantage of using Gesso instead of white acrylic paint????
Gesso is thinner, I find, so spreads around the page more easily and gives a dreamy quality and it's cheaper which is really the main reason I use it. But you can certainly just use white paint if you have it. Maybe thin it with a bit of water.

What is underpaper? How did you get the effect of the paper you are using?

What is under paper. Can it be any paper of choice?
Yes. It's the protective paper you put on your work surface on top of which you create your art. All the mess lands on the underpaper rather than your table. That mess of paper can be great to use in future journal pages.
