Wow. I don't think many of us understand just what a long trip aboard a boat involves. I guess you guys had plenty of time to get to know your new ride! And make it your own Matt! Really appreciate your efforts! Enjoyed the lighthouse still! and of course Mom's morning shots with the hummingbird ! (I was really surprised to see it out there and was tickled too mom!👍) Thanks guys!
I can even smell the salt air. Really well presented and what an exciting learning curve for you all with the new boat. Very nice. Can’t wait for the first fish to come aboard.
ok im looking forward to the boats first catches!!!!!! You shoud have a contest for subscribers to win a 1-2 day boating trip with your family......I would love it!
It's sooooooooo!!!! beautiful and calm up there in your next of the woods... Such a beautiful place!!!.. I got half way through the vid and wanted to put my own little boat in... But the good 'old southern ocean' is dishing me up swells of 1.5 - 5m this week.... I think I'll stay home and watch you guys 😁 Great vid as always!! 👍
Wow you guys did a lot of clearing and cleaning work in those few weeks . I'm sure there is plenty more to do but I could see you got a great start ! Your new addition reminds me of my favorite cat...He purred like that when he finally got in water ( he was a Maine Coon cat they love water and he was very happy jumping in a tub for a swim) and he squeaked at me too when I would move his arms out ! LOL
I am glad everything seems to be working good. Thanks for taking me along. The scenery is fantastic. Look forward to seeing you fish on this boat. Until next time.
Could you show in your video, on a map, the geographical journey from going to get the boat and bring it back? A lot of us down here in the lower 48 don’t know or truly appreciate just how vast Alaska is. If I remember correctly Texas would “fit” into the 49th state 2xs. Thanks and peace and well wishes to you and yours!
Love the way dad backed up the boat to the fuel dock. If fishing runs dry he can always get a job as a trucker. Looks like you installed a new captain's seat, too. Dad looking out the window at the open sea as you navigate home is priceless. Wonder what he was thinking about all that time? Is the engine a 6-71 or 8v-92 Detroit?
I'm an electrician, just wanted mom to know that for any electric kitchen cooking skillet, toaster, anything that cooks, don't use less than a 12 gage wire extension cord. The one she is using to cook is for lighting or other small, non cooking devices. The way she is using it is an extreme fire Hazzard. Not gripping at you, just informing you. They make a window air conditioner extension cord that would be great for the skillet. Love your channel and congrats on the new boat. Glad you all got a little vacation, you deserve it. Later family. Mado, thank you in Creek (Muskogee indian).
Thanks for the heads up Catfish. Although it was only temporary, you are right. We should have used the proper cord. Thanks for looking out for us and best wishes to you.
safe trip home. Hope you nav system works, and you don't go to far west. I know you fish for a living but a rod to kill other from boredom might be fun.
Correct, William. You can put them out and they reduce the snap of rolling back and forth, when you're in the trough you can put the stabilizer fish in the water. That makes it a way more comfortable ride.
Hi Sam! Yes, we put the new auto pilot through its paces, we still have some bugs to iron out, but it got us back to Kodiak. Correct, the poles are for stabilization, when we get weather from either side we can toss the stabilization fish into the water to smooth out the rolling.
Nah, unfortunately we didn't. We had planned to spend a little more time sight-seeing but being on the open ocean made us pretty nervous. No real spot to camp out for quite a long stretch past Cape Spencer.
Yea, 6-71's are know for being loud. The camera seems to make it louder than it really is, but we'll definitely be working on reducing the noise levels.
How many RPM's are you turning when your steaming Detroit diesels don't like running at low RPM's for an extended period of time i have a 70ft shrimp boat with a V1271 i steam round 1600rpm
Love your content and always enjoy your videos! I would like to offer some constructive criticism and encourage you to consider upgrading to an external Mic in areas when you can (weather permitting etc) as your audio is often hard to hear. Again, love your content and enjoy following along on your journey.
Beautiful hum from that 671! Music to my ears! I used to run mine at about 1500-1550 while cruising but best RPMs pretty much dependent on hull planform/wheel metrics and displacement. Anything higher little additional speed with higher fuel consumption. You are losing weight with your reoutfitting/mods so you might be able to pick up 1/2 knot or so at say 1150-1200RPM. Keep us advised on your findings. Always great vids by EIS Alaska!
Sure thing Gary, thanks for the detailed comment. We were running 1350 on the voyage home, same as the last owner ran it. We estimate around 2 tons have been removed now.
Hi Dave. We bought the vessel in Hoonah, then went over to Juneau, about 6 hrs to the east to go over things and get provisions. Our home port is Kodiak, about 500 miles west as the crow flies.
The Detroit Diesel engine operates at a higher RPM than 1200. I would prefer the 6-71 to prefer 1550 to 1750 rpm. This is a two stroke engine. Much different than a Nisan.
Is it as loud in the cabin as it sounds in the video? If so, gonna need earplugs or head phones? Needless to say, prolonged exposure to loud noise is not good.
Love your new boat.
The hummingbird was a guardian angel making sure you have safe travels.
Mom you raised some good sons!! Nice job.
Nothing like the first voyage on a new boat, congratulations.

Thanks guys!
We were all so comfortable on the ride home, lots of space. It was an awesome journey. The hummingbird was a surprise!
Exciting to watch. I can only imagine.

Stay safe, Hermit! We truly couldn't have asked for better weather for the trip.
Wonder full !
Ready to see new boat fishing
The journey to many fish stories ...Blessings
Thanks Raven! Can't wait to share more.
This is an awesome start to an epic journey!
Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks guys for the video!! What an awesome back drop. It is very beautiful up there.
What a great video. Thanks!
Our pleasure!

Haha! Must have loved being pampered. Thanks so much for the comment Debbie!
Look at all that room!! I can't wait to see what the future brings!
It's very comfortable, Barbara!
I am glad everything seems to be working good. Thanks for taking me along. The scenery is fantastic. Look forward to seeing you fish on this boat. Until next time.
Thanks, Philip!
Can't wait to see your finished product after all your hard work and fine tuning, be well
Enjoyed your trip! Glad everything is working well!
Thanks so much!
she sure sounds smooth and running very well!
She did! A little loud but we'll deal with that soon than later. Get some more noise dampening installed, there is little to none at the moment.
Congratulations
Love the new boat! Fish on.
Awesome video and love the new boat looks great 👍
Thank you for this video, your living in an unbelievable beautiful part of the world. RSA
My pleasure!
Makes nice wake!
Great video guys

Sure thing, Jack! We'll include a picture on the next part. And you're correct, Alaska is over 2x bigger than Texas!
Félicitations et bon vent
M&T make a great team .
Need a great coffee pot aboard and everything will be cool
Love the way dad backed up the boat to the fuel dock. If fishing runs dry he can always get a job as a trucker. Looks like you installed a new captain's seat, too. Captain's psyche is as deep as the ocean in that chair, nobody knows what resides in those depths, lol. It's a 6-71.
Don't say goodbye to Juneau, just say so long because we'll all be back there again maities.
That may be true, I'd love to revisit and spend more time down there.
I'm an electrician, just wanted mom to know that for any electric kitchen cooking skillet, toaster, anything that cooks, don't use less than a 12 gage wire extension cord. Why is the variator / cvt not used for driving big boats? I guess it would save fuel.
Too late to ask now, did you check the lifeboat is a-okay?
The video I have been waiting for. Is your auto pilot working?
Some bugs to work out, but it got us home just fine!
Matt why did you put out those long outriggers? Was it to steady the boat while traveling westward
safe trip home. Hope you nav system works, and you don't go to far west. I know you fish for a living but a rod to kill other from boredom might be fun.
Is that a stabilizer you have down another great video good luck
Yes it is! Thanks captain.
What are those outrigger masts used for that you guys were unfolding over the sides of the boat ? is it for stabilization. ?
Correct, William. You can put them out and they reduce the snap of rolling back and forth, when you're in the trough you can put the stabilizer fish in the water. That makes it a way more comfortable ride.
Os falta aislamiento acústico, dentro de la cabina
“We don’t want our fuel dock filmed…” goofy landlubbers anyways 🙂
Matt was Len using the new automatic steering system?
Hi Sam! Yes, we put the new auto pilot through its paces, we still have some bugs to iron out, but it got us back to Kodiak. Correct, the poles are for stabilization, when we get weather from either side we can toss the stabilization fish into the water to smooth out the rolling.
Is there something customary to do when a boat leaves its old doc? Bell ring or horn blows?
I'm sure there probably is, we didn't think to do anything like that though. The life raft needs repacked now that we're home.
Hey guys, what are going to do with y’all’s old boat
We will keep her and continue to fish around Kodiak.
thanks for the videos. for the benefit of us stupids, what are them poles for, and why push them out like that?
They are stabilizer poles, they smooth out the ride when traveling in the trough.
When will she b ready and did yous changed the name or was she already named Emerald Isle?
Do you guys ever stop to catch fish for your own meals, I would for sure.
Nah, unfortunately we didn't. We had planned to spend a little more time sight-seeing but being on the open ocean made us pretty nervous. No real spot to camp out for quite a long stretch past Cape Spencer.
Boat is very loud inside the cabin!
Is that normal?
Yea, 6-71's are know for being loud. The camera seems to make it louder than it really is, but we'll definitely be working on reducing the noise levels.
How many RPM's are you turning when your steaming Detroit diesels don't like running at low RPM's for an extended period of time i have a 70ft shrimp boat with a V1271 i steam round 1600rpm
This trip we ran at about 1350 RPM same as previous owner had for 20+ years.
Love your content and always enjoy your videos! I would like to offer some constructive criticism and encourage you to consider upgrading to an external Mic in areas when you can (weather permitting etc) as your audio is often hard to hear. Again, love your content and enjoy following along on your journey.
We absolutely agree, David! We got some mics on their way as soon as we got back home.
Do these boats make enough speed to get on plane? P.S. Are you going to trawl for shrimp or fish?
Nope, not even close. 8 knots or so average for the big boat.
Beautiful hum from that 671! Music to my ears! I used to run mine at about 1500-1550 while cruising but best RPMs pretty much dependent on hull planform/wheel metrics and displacement. Those Stabie Polls sound as they have a bit of Arthritis
Definitely, Michael. They could use some overhauling once we get back to port.
what was the total mileage for the trip home?
What's going to happen to Fish Tail boat?
We're keeping her in the family!
After buy boat I thought you took it to your harbor. See you working on it then fishing with older boat now your moving to new harbor confused
Hi Dave. We bought the vessel in Hoonah, then went over to Juneau, about 6 hrs to the east to go over things and get provisions. Our home port is Kodiak, about 500 miles west as the crow flies.
Was thing that hooe boat running good look forward to you video. Michigan
🥰👍👍🐟🐟🐟
It seems sound mechanical that's the big thing all the other stuff work on when you get the time it dont have to look good to make money
You've got that right, Kenny! There will be a lot of improvements going forward.
🤝👍👍👍🎉
You probably get asked this alot can I come work on your boat please
The Detroit Diesel engine operates at a higher RPM than 1200. I would prefer the 6-71 to prefer 1550 to 1750 rpm. This is a two stroke engine. Much different than a Nisan.
We cranked her up to 1350 for the journey, that's the same range the previous owner ran her.
