You guys are just around the corner from the Hatteras factory in New Bern. If you're curious how a top-tier yacht is put together, you should go check 'em out! Any time you drill a hole through a tube with the intention of running a bolt through it, there needs to be a sleeve welded in. Otherwise, when you tighten the bolt, it'll crush the tube and loosen back up. Because it's a step, it'll also hog the hole out as the step wants to rotate around the tube. You're in a good area to find someone that can weld the tabs back on but if you don't, you'll be replacing at the very least the tube under the step before too long. And while they're there, have 'em look at the rest of the welds on that thing because if those four welds are that shady, there's a chance there's more failures lurking around the other welds.
Ah that would've been pretty cool! Thanks for the information regarding the steps... I haven't had much time (in the couple months after this video to work on it) so there is still time to do something different. We appreciate the advice!
Does Hatteras do tours or plant visits? I am berthed in New Bern at Northwest Creek. Would be easy as pie to go see them. Always up for a learning trip.
Sorry that you didn’t get to eat at Beaufort Grocery Company. This is one of our favorite places to eat, along with Ribeyes and Clawsons. But, I don’t think that we have eat at a bad place. We like Beaufort so much, we bought a house there. Love it. Good luck on your journey.

Hi guy’s we left our house in Key West headed north five week’s ago.I watched your video about Darien Georgia . Cathy and I decided we had to go there.! It was a great decision, nice people good food and a beautiful ride in (had 2 knots of current with us) We arrived at the free dock during a thunder storm , 50 mph gust and rain so hard I couldn’t see, not so much fun, but thanks to a couple of locals managed to tie up safe and sound. Just add another story to by book. Thank again for the recommendation.
Hello, another super episode of your journey. We can't get enough of Ollie, even my two dogs Lady and Angel watch with me. The recommendation by Prototheria is a good one, I would take it. I learned that thinking of the "right" way of doing things away from quick and cheap, in the long run pays off, especially on a boat where you want to reduce your troubles. Your passage through the safety zone was well planned out and kudo's to the bridge captain for opening bridge for you. Hugs for Ollie from Lady and Angel. Aloha!

Last year going through that area had to anchor out in the waterway for 2 hours because they had closed that section of the ICW for live firing. Yes you got lucky the bridge tender open for you. Lol. Normally they are not that accommodating. Safe travels.
Beau-fort, not Boau fort. Marine Corps Base Camp LeJeune is also alone the ICW and had and no movement restriction from Willis Creek to Chadwick Acres because of ranges. Stood tower watch durning night fires at both ends.
You seem to be constantly turning the steering wheel left and right (it seems a bit excessive ) Is the rudder actuated by hydraulic or mechanical ? What is the length of the tiller arm and or hydraulic piston ? I’m in the process of installing a hydraulic system in my boat ..always searching for real life tech. Information. Thanks
The ICW was reported closed around Swansboro although technically it was just a security zone that you could request to pass. Basically the Coast Guard was running rescue drills. Some of the details are in the description and more information was in the previous video 😁

When you drill through stainless steel is best to use a slow speed on your drill. Cutting oil helps, also.

We have hydraulic steering onboard Pivot, I'm not sure how long the hydraulic piston is exactly, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 ft?
