    Tips and Tricks #3. Pronouncing the mute e is easy but how to use it can be very challenging. Much of the time it is silent and there are certain conditions where French requires that it be pronounced and other conditions that tell us to drop it. Becoming familiar with these situations can give you a more authentic accent.

    How interesting! I never knew there was a rule! Can you talk a little bit about the fact that the mute E is pronounced in songs?

      Hi Sarah; thanks for your comment. Yes, in songs as in poetry, the mute e serves the purpose of keeping the rhythm or the cadence. In most spoken literature it is also heard. This is its most formal use; what I teach is its conversational use. Let me know if this helps.

    What about the mute "T" in french words?

      Not sure what you are referring to. Do you mean "t"'s that are not pronounced at the end of words? That falls into the category of most final consonants being silent at the end of words. The mute e is a special category. Thanks for watching the video.
