    French Pronunciation Tips & Tricks #4: “Je te demande de ne pas le faire.” If you look at that sentence, you will count 9 syllables. But in normal French conversation, there are only 5! Keeping or dropping the mute e is a vital part of the language, since it affects the flow-the way the words are linked to make the rhythm that is typical of French.

    Is it required to learn IPA.

      No it is not necessary, but it is helpful. When we look up a word in a dictionary, it shows how to pronounce it in phonetic symbols. Phonetic symbols represent the sound instead of the spelling.

    Monsieur is highly irregular. That "on" is not pronounced nasalized as it should.

      Yes, "monsieur" is highly irregular. That's why I thought it would be fun to point out that there is a hidden mute e there. Thanks for watching the video.
