I remember during the "Summer of Love" the city went nuts and rumors started they were going to spread to the suburbs. The police and businesses here shut down and went on total lockdown. Helicopters all over during the night. Rumors spread if you even flew an American flag your home would be a target. One night, a strange car stopped on the corner near my house and was acting suspiciously (slowly driving, no headlights). My fiance and son grabbed weapons and went to confront them. A car full of black men being driven by a white woman. They claimed to be "lost" and they were told to get lost elsewhere. They left but it was alarming. Even more alarming how quickly the situation devolved. Luckily for my area we have a reputation for having a "fuck around and find out" attitude. That will only protect you for so long, however. Thank you for raising awareness.
I used to draw comparisons with the US and SA, I got alot of SA followers, and just like that they were gone and I couldn't find any updates on the riots or looting.
Good stuff but Pretoria is one of the two capitals not Johannesburg, Johannesburg is the financial center of the country. The guy are shooting rubber bullets out the shotguns hence the signs as shields. An old south african riot control technique is mixing lethal with less lethal in a line.
Some corrections for you guys.. 1. "No Fuel, No Spar" sign - Spar is a local food outlet franchise. 2. You commenting about the video footage being Johannesburg, it's all in Durban KZN, where 99% of the major damage was done.. Great video otherwise..

I recommend the gray man approach to your house as well. During protests, bring in the flag, take down political signs, etc.
