  • This clip was shot in 2005 at one my guitar shops on West End Ave, Nashville, TN.
Reggie was an amazing session musician and also played in the Bill Black Combo back in the 60's. When The Beatles first started their tours they asked for the Bill Black Combo to open up their shows.
He talks about his friendship with George Harrison and travelling across the USA and Europe on these early tours.

So cool to see Reggie, yet another criminally unknown legend. I've been listening to the tracking sessions from Elvis' February 1969 Memphis sessions lately (that Follow That Dream series is phenomenal), and Elvis seemed to gravitate towards Reggie the most. And his playing shines throughout, of course. I've managed to turn a friends on to him thanks to the "Drift Away" performance on Midnight Special, but he's always great.

Thanks for sharing Joe! There are many musician's I love, as we all do, but Reggie is at the top for me. His body of work is just incredible. I've just begun to discover all that he has done in the last year or so and I've learned a ton from it.
Just a quick sidenote I will leave here. Through a chance encounter at my favorite guitar store in Muscle Shoals I met Mr. Will McFarlane. I was blown away by his playing but truly impressed by his incredibly gracious attitude. I had no idea who he was at the time. Down the rabbit hole I went and now I know, lol! That's how I found out about Mr. Reggie Young.

Yes it's great to see Reggie finally get a little limelight shine on him, for those who don't know, Reggie played on thousands of records it's him you hear on Drift Away, Son of A Preacher Man, Cry Like A Baby, Hooked on A Feeling, Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain and most of Merle Haggard's stuff in the latter 70's like I think I'll Stay Here and Drink and That's the Way Love Goes when Reggie moved to Nashville and was the guitar player for The Highwayman records, you can see Reggie on the first Farm Aid Concert with them on Stage. And please listen to Reggie's last and only solo record he recorded when he was 80 years old called Reggie Young Forever Young. RIP Reggie you will always be a unsung hero.

Listening to Mr. Young tell these stories in his open, honest, 'it's not about just me' way is so compelling. I could listen for hours amazed at all of it.
