T2 is a classic and one of my all time favorites. Definitely one of the best and most memorable villain roles I recall when watching the movie for the first time as a kid.
In acting they have an "ensemble", if you watch Scorpion, whoever cast that show, each actor developed their characters so good, you would think they were really people, the humor was great too.
Robert has such integrity telling the world what he went through. His role as T2 transcends anything Hollywood could have thrown at him. Little did he realise that at the time his role would be creating one of the most memorable enemies of all time. This honesty, and openness is refreshing and I feel even can help people. I honestly can’t blame him for partying after T2. If he had been at it for a while, and then hit the jackpot right around thirty years old I think that’s what everyone hopes for, and been a dream come true. I would like to hear him talk about DieHard 2, that must have been a fun shoot as well.
Robert had to work hard before he finally hit the big time. Edward Furlong, on the other hand, got it without even trying. The kid literally had a huge acting role tossed right into his lap because he was at the right place, at the right time, and noticed by the right people. He had potential for a successful acting career as an adult but blew it. At least Robert was able to make good on his success and landed many more memorable roles. Eddie is pretty much forgotten.
Robert Patrick, I want to say your roll as the T-1000 was perfect nobody, I mean nobody could have played that part as you did, you became the part, I stand humbled by your commitment to that roll, bravo sir, bravo. It takes a real man to open up about his weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
I have extra respect for him now.
Seems like a genuine down-to-earth bloke.
So glad he’s got his life back on track.
Sudden fame isn't easy to handle for anyone. Robert was an adult when he hit the big time and he still had struggles. Imagine what it was like for Eddie Furlong. The kid literally ruined any chance he had at a successful acting career as an adult because of drugs and not being able to stay out of trouble.
Everything Robert Patrick has done. Has been excellent. From fire in the sky to peacemaker and T2. He's a legend.
Him going clean for the role says a lot about his character as a person. Especially because he NAILED!!! IT!!!
Honesty goes a really long way. much respect for Robert.
This guy just went up a few points. Thanks Mr. Patrick.
Gotta appreciate the honesty in people like this, it’s so helpful to others in the same situation
I admire anyone who can get humble and honest enough to talk about this deep and honest stuff
RP is the man. From Terminator, to Copland and Walk The Line; he always performs very very well.
Inside of you needs more recognition. Michael really gets folk to open up, warts n all.
HE WANTS TO GET INSIDE OF YOU _IF YAH KNOW WHAT I MEAN._
Yeah, first thing this show needs is a name change so it doesn't sound like something Bill Cosby came up with.
@@temite80 lol that guy made some stiff drinks I tell yah
I remember growing I would as a kid play Robert and Arnold’s Terminator role in the backyard. I would try and run like Robert did and then ride my bike with sunglasses and pretend I was heading to the galleria lol. 😂
We all did the run.....with the hands haha amazing
I've been sober 4 years and it's the best decision of my life. It was the hardest decision of my life, but it's Also the only reason why I'm alive.
If you haven't already, I'd throw in fasting and medicinal mushrooms. If there's lasting cellular damage from the abuse, it has the potential to turn cancerous. A 24 hour fast induces autophagy, your body consumes damaged cells and recycles their components. Reishi shrinks tumors in mice, and could act as a cancer preventative in humans. It increases killer t immune cell activity. I haven't been sick in 6 years.
You ain't alone. Coming up on 7 years, and man, you couldn't pay me to go back. But, it was tough. It does get easier... One day at a time... :)
How much were you drinking each day?
That’s great to hear …!!
A lot. My life was becoming unmanageable. AA saved my life, and no, it's not a cult or religious thing. If you feel like you need help, it's all suggestions. No one makes you do anything. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking, and we mean it. :)
Robert Patrick is one of the most underrated character actors ever. He becomes the characters he plays so completely. Always interesting to watch.
Another “underrated” comment on TH-cam.🙄🤢
@@blueberrycobblerin this case, it’s accurate. He’s one of the best yet lesser celebrated character actors of the modern era.
x-files, what josiah saw, terminator, the faculty, every role I've seen him in he absolutely knocks it out the park. Hope he's doing well these days.
He’s right up there with Gary Cole and Stephen Root. No matter how bad the script might be, they are ALWAYS good.
Pacino and DeNiro are only as good as the script. They can’t get away with that.
Hes pretty good in the show peacemaker, he plays john cenas dad.
This is a great testimony as to the mindset of an addict. Proves why they must always be vigilant.
Dude I thought he was really underrated as the coach In the faculty. He was great in that role. The one with Elijah wood
Yeah he was good in that
T2 is a classic and one of my all time favorites. Definitely one of the best and most memorable villain roles I recall when watching the movie for the first time as a kid.
Such honesty. Gifted actor.
In acting they have an "ensemble", if you watch Scorpion, whoever cast that show, each actor developed their characters so good, you would think they were really people, the humor was great too.
@@kevinwalsh4652Scorpion was superb. Robert should have got awards for his acting in that.
Much respect to Robert. He was so honest in this interview
Love Robert Patrick. Such a cool dude 💕
I used to be scared of you Robert but I respect you
Robert has such integrity telling the world what he went through. His role as T2 transcends anything Hollywood could have thrown at him. Little did he realise that at the time his role would be creating one of the most memorable enemies of all time. Also is that shirt deliberately looking like a police shirt, he still looks like he will pull you over!
Robert's problems are actually quite common among Hollywood actors whether it's drugs, alcohol, or getting in trouble with the law. People tend to expect a lot of you after such a big role and huge breakthrough.
T2 was the best movie of all time. He was amazing in it. Seems like a good guy.
T2 is arguably the greatest action film ever. We watched it every time is was on TV. Robert Patrick is forever Goated for his role as the T1000
One of the best in Hollywood...
I believe he's a big reason X-files kept going! Saved the show.
I adore Robert in all his roles. Even if the film or TV series he appeared in wasn't good.
He was about the only guy that coulda saved that show he did a good job
One of the biggest reasons, for sure!!
I love John Dogget!
Copland was one of my favorite films . Classic.
WOW. WAS NEVER EXPECTING THAT. I SUPPORT THIS GUY EVEN MORE. i hope too see more of your movies. YES YOU FELL OFF FOR A WHILE. BUT YOUR RECENT FILMS HAVE BEEN GOOD AS EVER. STILL THE MAN BRO.
So very cool to hear you two talk with one another. The Unit (and of course T2) is one of my all-time favorite shows, and Poolhall Junkies is one of my very favorite films. Great stuff gentlemen.
Love Robert Patrick! Amazing Actor!
Absolutely loved him in Fire in the Sky and Striptease. I always thought Robert Patrick was an underrated actor.
Whoa,I’ve seen Fire in The Sky several times and did not even realize he was in it until I read this comment.Amazing Actor.
Yeah his hair was longer in that movie, kinda like how he said he felt he needed to change his look from T2.i remember renting that movie back in the day, fire in the sky with a couple friends drinking beers smoking hash lol
I've watched movies that were ok or not that great just because I wanted to see Robert Patrick, so yeah.
and copland
His acting was flawless and so iconic. He will be in history just becausebof that role. It proves that even people with mental problems/addictions can produce something brilliant. I wish you the best and thank you for your amazing job
What it proves is that looks can carry you a long way and people will overlook your problems.
@@spartanx169x He hasn't got were he is through his looks, he's got there through talent.
@@peterlenham3180 He clearly got the role in the Terminator because of his looks at that time and thats okay. Anybody just about anybody could have played that role in terms of the limitedness of the character. Anybody could walk about and look pissed or serious or have a slight smirk like he did in what 2 scenes. I have yet to see him in a role that impressed me as far as his acting was concerned.
@@spartanx169x He wasn't the first choice, that was Billy Idol. Of course he got it because of his acting, but especially because he had the look, and was able to do the physical stuff. He had to look like he was a machine, but act like a human pretending to be a machine. You clearly haven't seen him much then, if he hasn't impressed you as an actor. He's superb in films like Fire in the Sky, Double Dragon, Striptease, Copland, Spy Kids, Walk the Line...the list goes on. On tv hes been excellent in The Sopranos, X Files, Scorpion, Peacemaker, Reacher, and so on. Not sure if you watched any of these, but with respect, you cant of if you doubt his acting.
@@peterlenham3180 Fair enough. Thanks for being civil. :)
James Cameron loved Robert Patrick because of this almost cat-like look for the new T2 and his ability to act the part brilliantly that contributed to T2 becoming one of the best movies in history. He was really great in The Sopranos too and Copland.
Underrated actor.
Loved him in The Unit!!
Davey Scatino in Sopranos! Loved his role in it. Played it well it was hard to see him not play a tough guy because of previous stereotypes
Nothing but love for Robert Patrick. He did a great job as the T-1000 scared the hell out of me as a kid in a good way, like he was the bad guy but he was bad ass.
As a recovering alcoholic myself, I can definitely relate and empathize. It’s hard.
Non-alcoholics just don’t understand how hard it truly is.
So glad to see him healthy and doing well. He’s such a solid part of my childhood.
As amazing as Arnold was, and always will be, the reason I saw T2 multiple times was the T1000 and Robert Patrick. The action sequences to start the film off were off the charts!! It’s interesting to hear that he had to clean it up and train like that for the role. Being in my late teens when I saw the movie, I thought he was perfect.
I couldn't agree with you more!
Robert Patrick's performance as The T - 1000 was amazing to see!
Wow, incredible candid conversation. I really appreciate Roberts openness
T2 is one of the greatest action films ever made. Literally a perfect movie. It’s everything a good sequel should be.
Not one, it IS the greatest action film ever made.
Honest and straight forward dude.
He definately played one of the most iconic villains in cinema history. He also was great in The Sopranos
A comeback in a Tarantino movie would be amazing both for the movie & for Mr. Patrick! Really seems like a great fit, too!
He is great in Peacemaker (newish TV Show)
Tarantino is such a cliché
I remember seeing Robert in “Fire in the Sky”, excellent movie with a great cast!
Its Amazing that Robert Patrick managed to overcome alcoholism AND degenerative gambling!
Getting slapped around by Tony Soprano usually clears that up
C’mon, it was just a stutter step!
Nothing but love and support for Robert and his family. Thank you for all of the great flicks.
Robert Patrick, I want to say your roll as the T-1000 was perfect nobody, I mean nobody could have played that part as you did, you became the part, I stand humbled by your commitment to that roll, bravo sir, bravo.
I do think that the franchise should have utilized the T-1000 in all the T-Movies as that was a critical model in the evolution of the other terminators.
Honest men hard to find....especially someone who can articulate it very maturely as Robert does. So, the message here is in two fold. Robert is going to bounce back, because he is brave to face his downside.....but all those others concealing it....and putting lid on it, need to be comfortable in their own skin.
How about that Jan dude?
@@davehughesfarm7983 no one stopped you from adding anyone to that list 🙄
It takes strong men like this being open to help so many others suffering from addictions feeling alone
Loved him from the time he appeared in T-2 as the T-1000. I remember saying (Because he was so good in the role) I hope he doesn’t get type casted? And went on to have such a great career! Loved him in everything he’s done. They don’t make em like this anymore! Robert Patrick ⭐️
Robert had many memorable roles but I'm pretty sure he's heard every joke and reference to the T-1000 when people talk about his other roles by now, lol.😅
The T-1000 was legendary, Terminator 2 was the best Terminator movie ever! 🔥
Robert you're great man. It wasn't anybody's fault man it's just one of those things. Thanks for sharing your experience strength and hope.
A breath of fresh air with such honesty. Life is a lesson.
Always loved this guys acting. Great to hear the slight torment of the nuance of someones career. Really important.
Robert Patrick was really good in Fire in the Sky
Saw T2 in the theater in Canada and it was awesome and scary and amazing and Robert Patrick definitely carried the scope and epic nature of that films storyline. He’s great
Fire in the Sky, T2, & X-Files. Patrick is one of the sci-fi greats!
Robert Patrick's one of those actors who kind of falls through the cracks a bit. He's done a lot of great work but most people don't recognize it at first until they give it a little bit of thought. And then then ya start to go back down memory lane and realize that the man's been in a ton of great projects.
Robert is a wonderful actor. It's a shame that he never got a starring role in his own movie.
@@Elly3981 eh, some people are just meant to be great back-up. And I guess he's one of those guys or gals. But sometimes it's those people who end up with the best careers because they can still get away with being themselves and still pick up work without having to sellout to Hollywood's bullshit. Ya get what I mean? And Patrick seems to be one of those types. So he's probably happy with what he's got. Steady work without the hassle of people being up his ass 24/7.
@@gimmethepinkelephant3685 Well, he's had some pretty good supporting roles and sometimes people are more intrigued by those characters than the actual starring one, but yeah. Robert seems pretty good at staying out of trouble and hasn't had any scandals that I'm aware of while Arnie has been discovered having a child out of wedlock with his housekeeper.
@@Elly3981 eh, I'm not too bothered by that stuff. Everyone has either their problems or someone in their family has. So I just kind of kick that crap to the wayside. But when you're in the spotlight it hits hard. And what I meant was that he's been able to weed his way through without cancel culture or anything else infecting his worklife. And that's a hard thing to do in Hollywood. Especially these days. I feel like we're living in Puritanical times, but in some kind of sick version of it where you're only ok if you bow down to that sickness. There doesn't seem to be any room anymore for people who just act normal according to Human Evolution...lol!
@@gimmethepinkelephant3685 Unfortunately, Hollywood isn't kind to most of its actors regardless of their age or how successful they've been in the past. If you're a public figure and make one tiny mistake, people don't want to forgive you or give you any slack either.
I met Robert at Wizard World in 2020. Awesome guy. We talked for a while about what happened to his character after he left the Sopranos. As someone who struggles with addiction, I can relate to his cravings for booze after T2. It's something that doesn't go away. You just take it one day at a time.
He played a brilliant t1000. T2 was the best of all the terminator movies. Absolute incredible actor.👍👍
This actor is amazing. He can do comedy and serious acting.
Remeber Robert in the outer limits too, great episode's 👍
He was good in the X files.
Maybe didn’t replace Mulder, but Agent Doggett was pretty good.
I wish that Doggett and Reyes got their own spinoff.
Agreed
Agree! I loved him in X-Files and I do wish he and Reyes had gotten their own spinoff. Their characters kind of got shunted to the side and didn't have a good ending in my view.
Dudes got range. Terrifying I’m T2. Pathetic in Sopranos
Had no idea about this, and its incredibly brave of Robert to bring this up. He has such a tremendous talent, to think about what could've been.
Wow he was in such perfect physical shape that I never even would have guessed he was an alcoholic/substance abuser. Even if an addict gives up temporarily for a film you can still sort of tell they have issues. With him that never came through.
My ex-boyfriend was also an alcoholic but still very fit because he spent a lot of time working out and eating healthy foods.
@@Elly3981 How does he look now madam? Has the alcohol visibly aged him?
@@southlondon86 Well, considering that I haven't seen my ex in over 15 years, I can't say. But when I was with him, I know he did drink a lot and still managed to stay slim because he worked out constantly and at least ate healthy foods.
Thanks for talking about this. Your performance in Fire In The Sky was totally underrated
I am 50 and have watched Terminator II 20? 30? times over the years, rewinding his scenes over and over again like a psycho.😮 But that aside, what a movie, and his parts, what a performance. Just iconic.
Only 30 times? ...Not even close to my number! :P
Loved him in The Unit also
Great job Michael.. Robert Patrick is 🥹awesome.
having good people around you is very important for success
His role in T2 literally scared the shite out of my girlfriend at the time. He was so convincing as mechanical killer that it transcended "just" acting. Amazing acting Robert Patrick.
When Striptease came out a few years later, I just had to see it, not because I liked Demi Moore, but because I wanted to see how Robert looked when he laughed and smiled, something he obviously couldn't do playing the T-1000 on T2. I thought Robert was hilarious as Demi Moore's ex-husband and wheelchair thief.
I’ve always loved Robert Patrick’s acting so much in everything he did & I’m just finding out NOW that he’s an alcoholic?! I’m both stunned & shocked! I never knew! I have more respect for him than ever for being able to talk about it, not everyone can.

I’ve always enjoyed watching his performances. Even in the X-Files where he got so much hate. Great actor…
Robert was great in the X-Files but not every film or TV series he appeared in was good. I adore Robert Patrick but thought True Blood was stupid.
His performance in T2 was legendary.
