    Love these vids of the scene back in the day. Brings me back to a happier time with the world's greatest band.

    I remember the cops kicked over my Smokey Joe at this show. Whole scene was messed up. Traded one of my prized shirts for bunk hits

    This reminds me of the gigantic drum circles in the tunnels when camping At RFK good times

      A friend of mine and I went down to the circle, he had a snare drum, he was playing along, someone came up and said “why don’t you get lost”that was in 95. People were different compared to the past. My friend was a great drummer too but for some reason they didn’t like him playing his snare drum with them. RIP Mike Beresh.

    My first show was here, 12/6/81.
    We had driven down from Oshkosh, WI., walked up to the box office, got tix, second to last row! Whole show platoon of cops in full riot gear behind us. Didn't matter, I was blown away! They were busting people for vending in the parking lot after.

    They had a Police sub-station right inside the arena. Cops were everywhere. I remember them cracking down on free food. "You can't give people food!!"
    My first parking lot. Tickets were hard to find. I remember a guy flashing hundred dollar bills trying to score tix. At least I got tapes of the shows afterward.

    Went to the st. Patty's day show. Coldest show I ever attended. Near 0 degrees at showtime. Lucy in the Sky breakout. Sold out quickly

      Yeah I was there! Funny I had a buzz cut back then I guess the long haired folks thought I was a nark they wouldn’t let a friend that I was with pass me a joint everyone was sharing lol. They were like nah man don’t give that him pass it back over here. Honestly, I was never treated nice with the regulars, only once at at giant stadium in 95 I had some killer smoke, then they were all my friend, but it’s all good I had plenty so was glad to share 👍

      I had a Loge seat. All the beer I could drink. Still wasn't worth 100$ was with a lot of younger heads. They kept doing that not fade away clap. I told them to shut up. I could tell the dead were waiting on the crowd to stop. I didn't make any friends.

      @@george.s.8491 Yeah I used to be the guy who wound up selling to all the "normals" people thought were cops but obviously weren't lol.
      A lot of those guys wound up being really grateful & would offer great compensation for being the only one who would talk to them.

      Yeah it's funny to see what a "bad scene" was back then.
      Especially compared to the late 00s/early 2010s.

    I like watching these, thank you...but it does bring up some bummer memories on how the scene just sucked compared to what it was in the 80s

    • @deadreckoning6288
      @deadreckoning6288 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fall out from the Reagan years, things got meaner & darker. The 80's were the last time there was still a bit of innocence to life. Yet the band kept playing on.....

      @@deadreckoning6288 Nah it came back after Jerry died & things concentrated down to a core group of people who really cared again.
      It was the Obama years that finally killed it. When they switched from mostly confrontation to 100% infiltration. Legalization was a huge blow, too. We never recovered from that. That's why things are so elitist now. People couldn't let go of the lifestyle or understand why younger folks had no way to sustain the old lifestyle.
      Wish people would have thought for half a second. Decriminalization probably would have actually worked but legalization was never going to work out well.

    I wonder why the cops were cracking down on people in the parking lot of Dead shows in the early 90's so much anyway?

    • @TheTestingGrounds
      @TheTestingGrounds 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So many of the places they'd been playing for years realized what an easy target Dead heads are. Plus, Dead heads are pretty up front what they're about. Sooner or later the community says the cops should be cracking down on this, and voila!
      Thank the media for helping kill yet another great scene as they used the Dead. With stories on the Dead come mention of drugs. It's all so obvious why the parking lot became the target it did.

    i remember how bad the cops were getting my last show was 1995 in Memphis when the cops were pepper spraying everyone at the gates for no reason and arresting people for sleeping over night in lot.sometimes i have to wonder if Jerry knew the fun was over.
