I'll tell my own little concert story. I didn't see the "riot". Things didn't feel right outside Deer Creek that night---an unusual uneasy feeling for a Dead show, at a venue that had always been my favorite. Things felt so inexplicably off that a strange impulse took hold, and our tickets became a couple of kids' Miracles. We gave them away in return for their smiles and left, rationalizing what we'd done all the way home. After hearing the news the next day, I did the same with my tickets for the upcoming Soldier Field show. Not that any similar difficulties seemed likely; it just seemed like the thing to do. Later, the really sad news came, and Deer Creek one year earlier unexpectedly became my final Dead concert. Maybe I should have had some idea of that at the time. On that night, everything was perfect. We had center-5th row seats---purely by mail-order luck of the draw---and were there to receive what now seems like some sort of gift. It came following the slowing, drawn out end of "Days Between." The music trailed off. The crowd was silent for a couple of heartbeats, then applause started and swelled and broke over the stage like a wave. I'll never forget the glance Garcia gave Weir when that happened. For that moment you could see that he had everything any musician could possibly want. You could see it in his smile and in his eyes. Seriously, I've got a couple of tears in my own, just remembering. Tear gas has nothing to do with it.
I got a tear in my eye reading this. You were what was rignt. Me and my girlfriend finished the tour the stop before and Auburn Hills Michigan, and drove back to Georgia so those were my last shows ever. I actually was flying out to go into the woods with my father and the Teton mountains for 14 days on horseback, and camped and fished for trout. I won’t lie. It was hard on me like everyone else when Jerry died though and I knew that I had given up the opportunity to see his final shows. However, I had been on tour most of that spring and most of that summer and it was like you kind of not feeling right. I actually could’ve done the deer Creek shows, but I would’ve been pushing it and I owed it to my dad and because my health does not good. I’m Grateful that I spent that time with him. I’ll say this much too this night that we’re watching in this video fucked up every other deer Creek show for every other band there after I saw Phish there every year from 96 through 2000 and they were all tight security just not the same as what it used to have been prior to that evening.
I'm pretty sure this is the same show where they had to leave the house lights on for the concert due to a death threat towards Jerry. The scene ate the band alive.
Yeah they left the lights on because of the death threat. In the first set when Jerry sang Dire Wolf he was literally pleading for his life. "Please don't murder me "

Deer Creek tickets sold out in a matter of minutes, they were the only tickets I saw every other show offered for on the tour. As early as Vermont there was word that Noblesville Police had secured a grant for more drug enforcement, especially in and around the campgrounds. There were police checkpoints the night before the show on Route 13. I was parked inside near the trees that obscured the police command center. All day long, full vans of hippies would go out and empty vans would come back. Undercovers on the parking lot, exploding devices thrown into the lake to keep people out. It was the worst scene I have ever seen at a Dead show. Almost as if the police were itching for an incident. That being said, obviously, there is no excuse to come to a show and act like a destructive idiot. I was inside as I never went to a show without a ticket. As I said it was the perfect storm: The crowd reacted to the overbearing police presence by acting out and trying to get in, the police by all accounts over reacted with tear gas and violence against the crowd, and in the end, it was, indeed, the beginning of the end. This was my home. Being on tour was all I wanted or needed. It was sad to watch it all go bad in the Summer of 1995. Forever Grateful.
it was because they let the dogs attack one person who initially stormed the fence. when the crowd seen that they attacked the cops. Then all hell broke loose
Dead shows by the mid-nineties were getting to be known as a place you could go party, maybe score some nugs or sheets of LSD to take back home, or to your school, and make a small bank, even if you weren't a deadhead yourself. Lame. The cops at this show in particular were pretty conservative and brutal, it's fucking Indiana. It was like every shitty thing about human nature happening all at once.
Disagree. The Vegas shows were great. All the Traffic with windwood openers were more than worth it, I also got to see sting and Santana open shows. There were some really good tour dates in the early 90s. Though not the same after Brent . It’s too bad the scene got to big but so many good opening shows On the 90s
@@MrMarckeedee So, your argument is they had good opening acts? Not a good argument. Even members of the GD and crew agree that they should have taken more time off after Brent's death. Brent died in July of 1990. They could have waited until the Summer of 1991. One year, that's all, but instead they rushed to fill the keyboard spot and got back on the road like Brent was a broken string that needed to be replaced. They should have waited, taken more time with their search and given Jerry time to get healthy. I guarantee the outcome would have been much different.

Wow! I've known about this since '95 but I had never seen footage of the madness. This is about 45 days after I saw them for the last time in Las Vegas, NV. At my final show, I almost passed out from dehydration because of the record heat that weekend in Vegas. Some people actually lost their lives out in the lot during that weekend from heat-exhaustion/dehydration. After the East Coast leg of the tour ended the summer tour for good, I remember the band putting out a letter signed by all of them addressing how the scene had changed for the worse and how something needed to be done about it. As they all signed off, I remember the letter said "One way or another, this darkness got to give." Jerry checked himself into rehab a few weeks later.
That was kinda why I stopped seeing the Grateful Dead in 1987. I loved the band, but commercial success was the kiss of death for the scene. Culturally, the cocaine epidemic of the late 80's and the heroin epidemic of the early 90s also REALLY wrecked the vibe. It just wasn't the same anymore: EVERY show was becoming like that to some degree: too damn big and too damn angry. It didn't seem like a safe place anymore. There really were no intimate small-venue shows anymore and the big outdoor gigs were just getting way out of control. I Stopped going to shows in '87 except for one in November of '94 - that one qualified as the single worst concert I'd ever seen by ANY band. It was pretty obvious to me at that show that Garcia's days were very numbered - it really wasn't the way I wanted to remember the guy.
I was there for Lollapalooza 94 and 95... Always gad a good time at Deer Creek! Unfortunately I didn't make it to the Dead show, but we had a great time at the campgrounds that night! 🥦🍄😎✌

I was there...got tickets from the lot even Tho it sold out...was inside when the riot went down and didn't really see anything until after the show...it was a great venue for years..still have a Bradley Fish tape I bought from the musician himself outside the gates after the show...seems like a lifetime ago...STILL GRATEFUL!

I was 21 by then & had lost family member in OKC that April, (yeah that horrible thing)... so I was there for own sanity / therapy during break from classes. This was only show of six I didn't have a taper ticket for (or any ticket). Actually a cool friend of mine I was there with gave them to me because I was going through a hard time dealing with such a national tragedy & stuff. But I was hanging out like 1000 yards to left of tree's by venue by more tree's after taking a bit too many shrooms, then the asshats did their gate crashing thing. It was beyond stupid, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, & actually didn't at first. Then I could tell others were seeing it too & reacting. After a few minutes it was all too much so I just put on 76 Orpheum on cassette walkman & went walking & made my way back to the campsite & somehow found my tent... felt like Indiana Jones adventure by then or something! Took me like 2 hours. I did hit the other shows, at least saw Jerry's last show but yeah the whole year was funky.
Driving out for the Vegas shows I stopped in OKC and met some Heads at a Wendy's that I convoyed with the rest of the way. They had gone to see the remains of the bouilding before it was demolished. Dark shit
I was there. I scaled the fence long before it was torn apart. To this day, I feel bad about what happened. But it was either run up that hill or get trampled. I wish it all didn’t happen.
The whole tour had bad luck that year. Some guy at RFK got struck by lightening. In St Louis there were too many people and some bleachers collapsed. It was different the last couple of years, a different kind of people were showing up to drink beer in the lot.
Bunch of assholes is what gate crashers are. I was inside on the concorse when it happened. All of a sudden we were packed like sardines in there, you knew something was wrong. The boys were playing 'Desolation Row'. I heard a lot of yelling behind me on the hill. I met some really nice people inside during the break. I did not know what happened till after the show when I was walking out and saw a K9 unit. I talked to one cop with a nice looking German Sheperd. The dog was very well behaved. The cop was a cool guy. Hard to believe this was 25 years ago, it scares me.

Summer 95 was a mix of good times and sadness. I get the impression that the Woodstock 99 type crowd were going to the shows for the drug experience.
@@seanegan3296 Yeah, I got that feeling at a couple of festivals through the years & I haven't gone back to. I saw Keller at SummerCamp in '04 (or so) but the crowds really shifted. It's hard to find a good fest these days. Idk if I'm just getting too old or if the kids are just so different it makes the vibe different.
It was a weird scene in 94 and 95. I was at Giants stadium in the parking lot. There was a guy bragging to a few people that he was just there for the drugs, didn't listen or like Grateful Dead. He was into Pantera. The people he was talking to looked at him like he was an alien. Inside Madison sq garden there was a guy smoking crack during the show.
Me and my friends went to the show just for the parking lot scene which was ALWAYS happening! What we DIDN'T expect was a pretty good view of the stage from across the lake!! Unexpected BONUS!! The show opened up with Here Comes Sunshine (One of my favorites) and BAM I'm getting the whole show FREE from the parking lot!! The next thing I saw was some kids throwing beer bottles at cop cars and the conflict just escalated from there into "Gatecrashing" by those who weren't content with the DAMN GOOD free view from across the lake! Slowly the walls of the Amphitheater were being savagely ripped apart and the debris was falling on paying ticket holders! Jerry stopped playing in the middle of a song and you could see the disappointment on his face! I was in Highgate Vermont when the "gatecrashers"broke through the chain-link fencing and the cops just gave up and it turned into a free show for all. So after awhile I went to see if that was happening here, but when I got to the front of the standoff there were the Noblesville Police warning the Gatecrashers over the megaphone "If you try to come through here your going to be maced, batoned, arrested and incarcerated!" the lead cop was warning over and over! NO CHANCE of there being a free show this time I thought! But then some guy jumps in front of the mob facing the police and says "There's a lot more of us (Gatecrashers) then there are of them (police)! They can't catch us all! I'M GOING!!"He charged towards the cops with the whole mob running behind him! I just stood there tripping my balls off mind you watching the mob depart chasing the cops who were running backwards up the Amphitheater hill spraying mace THE WHOLE WAY! All of the sudden, the mob stops and starts running back towards me yelling "Gas! Gas!' "OHH FUCK" i thought "I'm going to get stampeded if I don't haul ass!"By nightfall the cops had about 5 to 7 Gatecrashers trapped on the Amphitheater hill and they were just beating the living daylights out of them for what seemed like an eternity! I'm talking it was Rodney KIng style senseless beatings meant to permanently disfigure the Gatecrashers with their boots and batons! IT WAS HORRIBLE! Just then Jerry did something incredible and I'll NEVER forget this, he starts singing "Mighty Quinn" "COME ON WITHOUT (without a ticket) COME ON WITHIN (come on in) YOU'VE NOT SEEN NOTHING LIKE THE MIGHTY QUINN!! And the mob outside rushed the cops ALL AT ONCE! I thought they were going to trample the poor people the cops were beating but they actually helped them from what I could see!. But by Jerry doing that and calling the mob to rush the cops briefly he stopped the police brutality that was out of control with just a few words of a Bob Dylan song and a guitar! As soon as the beatings stopped the band started playing "Attics Of My Life" to cool the whole situation down again! After they started singing "Attics" I thought to myself I'd better find my bros and convince them to bug out early! The cops are mad as hell and they're probably looking for some payback right about now! I found my friends and I didn't have to do much convincing. We were ALL like LET'S GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!And we split!
Enough of an incident to piss off the band, cancel shows and this incident turned a lot of the heads off that were the heart and souls of the scene. and was something that could have caused a lot of injuries or death. The band was not about that and they probably should have just canceled the whole tour and called it quits. No one wants to play with thousands of people breaking into the venue with force and forcing law enforcement to react. This was not a few gait crashes. This was hundreds or more charging into a venue with fences crashing down and tear gas trailing them as it blows into the closed event. Not cool
I feel for the fans who had been looking forward to their first and probably their only dead show ever to have it ruined like THIS by other fans. Imagine saving your money from some dumb summer job or something, buying tickets, anticipating it for months all for it to come crashing down in a matter of minutes. What started with just a few people turned into thousands. I wasn’t there but damn my heart goes out to those who missed out on their last tour.

In 12. When my dad was here during his high-school years he told me people were rioting. He was close to the stage and he threw a cup at Marilyn Manson which then Manson kicked down drums. He rembeers pantera and fences and trees burning along with people throwing cups in the air

I was there! It was my birthday July 2...there was not enough tickets..I was standing with a crowd when the cops came and the people next to me started throwing beer bottles at the cars chanting "Fuck the Police" I saw the people running and pulling down the fence...it was wild. Love you Jerry!
Reminds me of 97 Phish tour Virginia Beach. August 9, anniversary of Jerry’s death. Folks went crazy. Hippies throwing bottles at cops on horses. Cops spraying mace. Things settled down and they played terrapin Station.
I saw the first beer bottle hit the hood of the cop car, it was in reaction to one guy climbing the fence, the cops ripped him off & slammed him on the sidewalk, then someone broke a beer bottle on their car & that set it off like a detonator, had to run from the gas then
Yeah tit for tat escalation. I can totally see this scenario. But many of the people it seems had the “follow the herd” mentality seeing all these kids running to the fence it turned into the pack mentality syndrome From the footage you can see half the people joining in to the stampede not knowing what caused it, and the other half standing their calculating what this is going to cause. Some people are followers and only care about the moment and others want to see future shows and practice the philosophy of don’t cause violence or aggression and “we’ll live another day to dance to the music. Unfortunately the scene had been taken over by the herd mentality folks and the scene was dying
The Grateful Dead a tiny group of people having fun on LSD But we attracted tourists who wanted to watch the Deadheads and try to get some of what we had But they cant for biological reasons So the tourists changed the drugs that were taken as LSD was not for them, And the deadheads essentially almost stopped going, because the scene was now about Alcohol and other harder drugs Normal people on drugs are real problem

Went with my sister and friends. 1st dead show at 17. Dosed on JC Superstar. Had no clue what was going on until we looked behind us at all the pieces of shizz busting thru. F all of you that did that. Amazing show. NFA
I love the ending. The Police station and court house. Lol 😆 🤣 been there done that. And not just recently or long ago, but before then to, after a show or two.. I thought it was I before E except after C. I guess not in this case unless my auto correct is on the fritz. Which is quite actually the case she has a name.
I was there. I was inside on the right side of the stage on that tarmac. I heard crowd noise behind us but didn't know what was happening. They were playing 'Desloation Row' when it happened. Suddenly the tarmac got really crowded. I was lifted off my feet and moved about ten feet and my feet never touched the ground. I had to control my mind to remain calm because it felt so claustrophobic. After the show we came out and saw police standing at different locations, they looked tense. They had dogs with them. I talked to a cop about his dog. He was a good guy. This show, that year, was the end of an era. These gate crashers are the same people who are destroying Portland, Minneapolis, etc. It's a loss of something, the blacks are trying to make it all about them, and many people are jumping on that bandwagon, but it's a loss of something for us all, it's everywhere, in baseball, on the lakes where there's too many jet skis, power boats, people drinking, too much NOISE. It's like we scared a lot of the good spirits on Earth away. They said: "I'm outta here" and we're all left standing in an a dirty parking lot.
Stfu my dad and his buddies started this my dad had his ticket and his to buddys Bruce and lee thare boath brothers did not have a ticket bruice and lee did not so thay started to climb the fence then people took it too far
The cops probably could have controlled the seen but they probably needed their egos stroked as usual and needed to make everyone know they were the authority. They began to provoke and challenge the tired, angry and irritated fans and helped to create a situation that quickly grew out of control. They instead could have remained calm and cool and most likely diminished the growing restlessness. But cops can be dicks. But I was inside so I can’t say for sure how aggressive the fans really were. But I will usually side with the Deadheads most of the time. One thing I know for sure is Headyversion is a miracle everyday.
Diabetes, drug use, smoking, bad diet and genetics was enough . The fans didn’t kill anyone in the band. Bob is still alive along with bob and. Mick who are still fucking touring. . Perhaps the scene killed the music and the overall band as we knew it . But let’s keep in perspective
the management killed jerry by not letting him stop touring to rest. the grateful dead employs hundreds of people and jerry not performing means hundreds of people go without money to feed their families. jerry knew this and it was a burden

I've known about this since '95 but I had never seen footage of the madness.
This is about 45 days after I saw them for the last time in Las Vegas, NV. At my final show, I almost passed out from dehydration because of the record heat that weekend in Vegas. Some people actually lost their lives out in the lot during that weekend from heat-exhaustion/dehydration.
After the East Coast leg of the tour ended the summer tour for good, I remember the band putting out a letter signed by all of them addressing how the scene had changed for the worse and how something needed to be done about it. As they all signed off, I remember the letter said "One way or another, this darkness got to give."
Jerry checked himself into rehab a few weeks later.
That was kinda why I stopped seeing the Grateful Dead in 1987. I loved the band, but commercial success was the kiss of death for the scene. Culturally, the cocaine epidemic of the late 80's and the heroin epidemic of the early 90s also REALLY wrecked the vibe. It just wasn't the same anymore: EVERY show was becoming like that to some degree: too damn big and too damn angry. It didn't seem like a safe place anymore. There really were no intimate small-venue shows anymore and the big outdoor gigs were just getting way out of control. I Stopped going to shows in '87 except for one in November of '94 - that one qualified as the single worst concert I'd ever seen by ANY band. It was pretty obvious to me at that show that Garcia's days were very numbered - it really wasn't the way I wanted to remember the guy.
I was there for Lollapalooza 94 and 95... Always gad a good time at Deer Creek! Unfortunately I didn't make it to the Dead show, but we had a great time at the campgrounds that night! 🥦🍄😎✌

I was there...got tickets from the lot even Tho it sold out...was inside when the riot went down and didn't really see anything until after the show...it was a great venue for years..still have a Bradley Fish tape I bought from the musician himself outside the gates after the show...seems like a lifetime ago...STILL GRATEFUL!

I was 21 by then & had lost family member in OKC that April, (yeah that horrible thing)... so I was there for own sanity / therapy during break from classes. This was only show of six I didn't have a taper ticket for (or any ticket). Actually a cool friend of mine I was there with gave them to me because I was going through a hard time dealing with such a national tragedy & stuff. But I was hanging out like 1000 yards to left of tree's by venue by more tree's after taking a bit too many shrooms, then the asshats did their gate crashing thing. It was beyond stupid, I couldn't believe what I was seeing, & actually didn't at first. Then I could tell others were seeing it too & reacting. After a few minutes it was all too much so I just put on 76 Orpheum on cassette walkman & went walking & made my way back to the campsite & somehow found my tent... felt like Indiana Jones adventure by then or something! Took me like 2 hours. I did hit the other shows, at least saw Jerry's last show but yeah the whole year was funky.
Driving out for the Vegas shows I stopped in OKC and met some Heads at a Wendy's that I convoyed with the rest of the way.
They had gone to see the remains of the bouilding before it was demolished.

I was there. I scaled the fence long before it was torn apart. To this day, I feel bad about what happened. But it was either run up that hill or get trampled. I wish it all didn’t happen.
It was, in hindsight, the end times.

The whole tour had bad luck that year. Some guy at RFK got struck by lightening. In St Louis there were too many people and some bleachers collapsed. It was different the last couple of years, a different kind of people were showing up to drink beer in the lot.

Bunch of assholes is what gate crashers are. I was inside on the concorse when it happened. All of a sudden we were packed like sardines in there, you knew something was wrong. The boys were playing 'Desolation Row'. I heard a lot of yelling behind me on the hill. I met some really nice people inside during the break. I did not know what happened till after the show when I was walking out and saw a K9 unit. I talked to one cop with a nice looking German Sheperd. The dog was very well behaved. The cop was a cool guy.
Hard to believe this was 25 years ago, it scares me.
The scene was long gone before this happened.

@@matthew6427 Ah yes I've heard him play it a couple of times. I didn't realize he was there and wrote the song about this. I feel bummed out after watching this. Summer 95 was a mix of good times and sadness. I get the impression that the Woodstock 99 type crowd were going to the shows for the drug experience.
@@seanegan3296 Yeah, I got that feeling at a couple of festivals through the years & I haven't gone back to. I saw Keller at SummerCamp in '04 (or so) but the crowds really shifted. It's hard to find a good fest these days. Idk if I'm just getting too old or if the kids are just so different it makes the vibe different.

It was a weird scene in 94 and 95. I was at Giants stadium in the parking lot. There was a guy bragging to a few people that he was just there for the drugs, didn't listen or like Grateful Dead. He was into Pantera. The people he was talking to looked at him like he was an alien.
Inside Madison sq garden there was a guy smoking crack during the show.

Me and my friends went to the show just for the parking lot scene which was ALWAYS happening! What we DIDN'T expect was a pretty good view of the stage from across the lake!! Unexpected BONUS!! The show opened up with Here Comes Sunshine (One of my favorites) and BAM I'm getting the whole show FREE from the parking lot!! The next thing I saw was some kids throwing beer bottles at cop cars and the conflict just escalated from there into "Gatecrashing" by those who weren't content with the DAMN GOOD free view from across the lake! Slowly the walls of the Amphitheater were being savagely ripped apart and the debris was falling on paying ticket holders! Jerry stopped playing in the middle of a song and you could see the disappointment on his face! I was in Highgate Vermont when the "gatecrashers"broke through the chain-link fencing and the cops just gave up and it turned into a free show for all. So after awhile I went to see if that was happening here, but when I got to the front of the standoff there were the Noblesville Police warning the Gatecrashers over the megaphone "If you try to come through here your going to be maced, batoned, arrested and incarcerated!" the lead cop was warning over and over! NO CHANCE of there being a free show this time I thought! But then some guy jumps in front of the mob facing the police and says "There's a lot more of us (Gatecrashers) then there are of them (police)! They can't catch us all! I'M GOING!!"He charged towards the cops with the whole mob running behind him! I just stood there tripping my balls off mind you watching the mob depart chasing the cops who were running backwards up the Amphitheater hill spraying mace THE WHOLE WAY! All of the sudden, the mob stops and starts running back towards me yelling "Gas! Gas!' "OHH FUCK" i thought "I'm going to get stampeded if I don't haul ass!"By nightfall the cops had about 5 to 7 Gatecrashers trapped on the Amphitheater hill and they were just beating the living daylights out of them for what seemed like an eternity! I'm talking it was Rodney KIng style senseless beatings meant to permanently disfigure the Gatecrashers with their boots and batons! IT WAS HORRIBLE! Just then Jerry did something incredible and I'll NEVER forget this, he starts singing "Mighty Quinn" "COME ON WITHOUT (without a ticket)
COME ON WITHIN (come on in) YOU'VE NOT SEEN NOTHING LIKE THE MIGHTY QUINN!! And the mob outside rushed the cops ALL AT ONCE! I thought they were going to trample the poor people the cops were beating but they actually helped them from what I could see!. But by Jerry doing that and calling the mob to rush the cops briefly he stopped the police brutality that was out of control with just a few words of a Bob Dylan song and a guitar! As soon as the beatings stopped the band started playing "Attics Of My Life" to cool the whole situation down again! After they started singing "Attics" I thought to myself I'd better find my bros and convince them to bug out early! The cops are mad as hell and they're probably looking for some payback right about now! I found my friends and I didn't have to do much convincing. We were ALL like LET'S GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE!And we split!

Enough of an incident to piss off the band, cancel shows and this incident turned a lot of the heads off that were the heart and souls of the scene. and was something that could have caused a lot of injuries or death. The band was not about that and they probably should have just canceled the whole tour and called it quits. No one wants to play with thousands of people breaking into the venue with force and forcing law enforcement to react. This was not a few gait crashes. This was hundreds or more charging into a venue with fences crashing down and tear gas trailing them as it blows into the closed event. Not cool

I feel for the fans who had been looking forward to their first and probably their only dead show ever to have it ruined like THIS by other fans. Imagine saving your money from some dumb summer job or something, buying tickets, anticipating it for months all for it to come crashing down in a matter of minutes. What started with just a few people turned into thousands. I wasn’t there but damn my heart goes out to those who missed out on their last tour.

The addition of Phish fans into the GD scene is why this occurred.

I saw the first beer bottle hit the hood of the cop car, it was in reaction to one guy climbing the fence, the cops ripped him off & slammed him on the sidewalk, then someone broke a beer bottle on their car & that set it off like a detonator, had to run from the gas then
Yeah tit for tat escalation. I can totally see this scenario. But many of the people it seems had the “follow the herd” mentality seeing all these kids running to the fence it turned into the pack mentality syndrome From the footage you can see half the people joining in to the stampede not knowing what caused it, and the other half standing their calculating what this is going to cause. Some people are followers and only care about the moment and others want to see future shows and practice the philosophy of don’t cause violence or aggression and “we’ll live another day to dance to the music. Unfortunately the scene had been taken over by the herd mentality folks and the scene was dying

It wasn't really a riot. People without tickets charged the fence and climbed over and ended up tearing down parts of the fence.
actually. it was just one person who ran to the fence. But, the police let the dogs loose and they caught him and were tearing the guy up long before the cops could get there to get the dog off. and when the crowd seen that, they stormed the cops.

I heard crowd noise behind us but didn't know what was happening. They were playing 'Desloation Row' when it happened.
Suddenly the tarmac got really crowded. I was lifted off my feet and moved about ten feet and my feet never touched the ground. I had to control my mind to remain calm because it felt so claustrophobic.
After the show we came out and saw police standing at different locations, they looked tense. They had dogs with them. I talked to a cop about his dog. He was a good guy.
This show, that year, was the end of an era.
These gate crashers are the same people who are destroying Portland, Minneapolis, etc. It's a loss of something, the blacks are trying to make it all about them, and many people are jumping on that bandwagon, but it's a loss of something for us all, it's everywhere, in baseball, on the lakes where there's too many jet skis, power boats, people drinking, too much NOISE.
It's like we scared a lot of the good spirits on Earth away.

The cops probably could have controlled the seen but they probably needed their egos stroked as usual and needed to make everyone know they were the authority. They began to provoke and challenge the tired, angry and irritated fans and helped to create a situation that quickly grew out of control. They instead could have remained calm and cool and most likely diminished the growing restlessness. But cops can be dicks. But I was inside so I can’t say for sure how aggressive the fans really were. But I will usually side with the Deadheads most of the time. One thing I know for sure is Headyversion is a miracle everyday.
Diabetes, drug use, smoking, bad diet and genetics was enough . The fans didn’t kill anyone in the band. Bob is still alive along with bob and. Mick who are still fucking touring. . Perhaps the scene killed the music and the overall band as we knew it . But let’s keep in perspective
the management killed jerry by not letting him stop touring to rest. the grateful dead employs hundreds of people and jerry not performing means hundreds of people go without money to feed their families.
