Richard gray often does something similar on his minis - either a messy stippling with dilute paint on a drybrush or more directional paintbrush-applied slices in his processes (e.g. in his neurogaunt video). Leaves a lovely texture in the end. Love your result here!
Just bought the Sandtrap box to play with our club, and this video has given me the last bit of inspiration I needed to get started on a scheme. Thanks for the great information and cool ideas, Henry!
Wow, how timely, I was about to sit down to paint this guy. I felt the same way with the other JSA from that box I painted last week. So enjoyable and I kind of went about it the same way, just jumped in. So glad I saw this, thanks for the inspiration!
What a great pinning tip! I glue, then drill through and insert pin. Sometimes the pin gets hung up en route though, and I'm pretty excited about the blue-tac method.
I really wish I had seen this before I started painting my sandtrap! This is incredible. A few twists for my personal tastes and I would absolutely do an army of this! Going to finish what Ive started then shift to this style for the rest!
I absolutely love this style! I will have to try it on some Necromunda gangs. Thanks for posting this - I'm sure I'll be back often to rewatch the details!
That's how I paint! I call it a "sketchy" style when I am trying to describe it to others, but it comes from a combination of loving the look of weathering and Richard Grey's stippling, but also being really impatient and wanting to finish my minis in as few sessions as possible. Love it!
Alternative tip for those coming from plastics - don't worry about pinning (unless you are like super clumsy with your minis and need the extra reinforcing) but do two extra things: Wash them with some warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush- some metal minis have release agent and this does its job and preventing super glue from bonding the parts together. File up the joints - a few rasps with the edge of a file will do it, you can score it with your knife too. This increases the surface area for super glue to bond to. Long time infinity player here - I've almost never pinned and even the chonky TAGS haven't had bits break off with the exception of dropping them.
Thanks for the video. I really like the current JSA range. I would like to see how you would tackle a clean Cyberpunk style for JSA or any other infinity faction
Like you said, this is very different from your usual style. I found myself in the same boat actually, where painting the same marine models the same way with an airbrush got kinda tedious. I got back into infinity and have enjoyed painting quite a bit more since. These models can be challenging, but since you don't need that many of them, each feels like a mini project that you really get to enjoy.
Just got my copy, I'm looking to paint the 2 squads using Shirow's artwork as influence, I have some of his art books for reference, Scary project but should be fun and to be honest, his work has been a leading influence on Infinity. Also nice way to tie the airbrush to the mini but you missed the Corvus Black/Corvus Belli link!
Beautiful miniature and excellent paint job of it, man!! :D I'd love to give Infinity a go, will need to see if I can find anyone in my area who'd give it a whirl >.>
19:42 was at SMC this past weekend and IRL I clearly prever TMM (especially well done display level TMM) over NMM any day of the week. Historical painters are so good at TMM, but even in fantasy I saw some Spira sculpts with TMM that looked awesome as well. I can see the appeal for NMM in photos though, but I care more about what pieces look like IRL than online.
I just use a dot of paint when I need to pin things together. Looking forward to seeing what changes 5th edition brings. I like that they flipped how armour saves work to match the rest of the game mechanics. As a new player in 3rd edition it took time to get used to needing to roll over a value just for saves, but equal to or under for everything else
Love seeing these! I have some Infinity on the way and it's very cool hearing your thoughts on metal and seeing your schemes Also, when is the Cult of Paint x Headspace collaboration coming, the most soothing voices in all of mini painting
@@cultofpaint it’s a guided meditation/mindfulness app, super relaxing and therapeutic, but you two would give any of the speakers on there a run for their money! The most relaxing (and informative) painting tutorials out there
@@gamelover260 that's a tougher one, just because neither of us are particularly into that IP. But we'll certainly be doing other games systems going forward.
Maybe being spoiled with plastic mini's and kitbashing new poses etc, it would be good to see if that sort of thing carries over to infinity models, with them being metal. etc.
I just checked out their site and left 400 euro poorer... but I made sure there's room in my storage space for them to join all the other stuff I want to paint but never find the time :D Any idea when the pre-orders start shipping? there wasn't any kind of message/warning that it'll be a bit before they ship - just the typical 3-10 day window.
Is that Siocast? I've seen some youtubers note that they tend to degrade a bit over longer production runs. (New mould = perfect quality, old mould = not great quality). (EDIT: referring to the blue miniature around the middle of the video)
Please, more Infinity! You guys inspire me to paint my Infinity models in a totally new way! (I never thought of using metallics and oils on them)🤩
glad you guys are doing more non-warhammer stuff. thanks for the vid
Love to see more Infinity painting content!
Love infinity and love to see you guys working on it. Would love to see more of it please.
Finally some one who explains how to pin so that everything lines up. Thank you.
thumbs up for more infinity content!
Can we get a tutorial on the red monkeys next?
Yes!!!! You are like on of the top online!!
Agree with everyone else here....more Infinity content please!!!
Such a great scheme. I rarely see a more gritty Infinity scheme. I really like the final look!
I'd love to see you tackle one of the TAGs!
deal!

The new JSA stuff is awesome, they made me start a JSA army.
Definitely like the videos on non GW games and minis - enjoy having the variety of backgrounds

❤ wow ! Looks really effective ! Hope I get my JSA as good looking !
Got them last week ❤
Great video! Nice grimdark looking JSA! Fitting for that army!
more infinity please!
Here from the Squidmar video you did. Love your content!

Dang that model looks good
Can't wait to see a whole force painted like this!

Great video, I'm quite keen to paint up my JSA in a similar style now. I'd love to see you guys paint up one of the TAGs, in the future!
I think i might do the new JSA TAG for a video in a couple weeks
the scheme looks great mate

Excellent pinning hack!
Very interested have ordered

While the armour looks great, I really love the cloth. Great choice using the Contrast paint for it.
13:40 I am not sure this style would suit me, but very interested in where you take it. Definitely looks good!
Very cool
I think I might do this ivory armor on my Bakunin models.

Im really looking forward to trying the game again. Its been a long time. I like the dot of paint method, but i was never delicate enough.
Nice model! Love the infinity content!
Any possibility to see something similar for black armor or yellow?
id do the black like his though plates here. Yellow I will cover when i pick up some Yu Jing

I thought this was an armour from halo infinite icl, esp since they have a tabletop mini game coming out soon
Do you have more examples of this technique on other JSA models with large white areas or any of the tags? Would love to try this on a cohesive squad
only other JSA vid is the Raiden

Mr HenryHere how would you do it having the armor more white/less ivory and a bit cleaner?
@@OldManRogers I'd change the contrast wash. Maybe something more grey/blue

blimey!! No sorry no idea on their shipping etc.
@Henry, how would you approach cloth with this scheme? A lot of the JSA models have a decent bit of cloth on them. Thank you in advance!
Additional, non-black cloth that is. Such as a haori or jacket
@@gabrielmllr I will paint up some more and report back in a couple videos time!

Too bad that they still haven't switched to resin or plastic.
Who knows I might just give it a try if I finished all my other projects.
nice crisp casts.
