Hey man, awesome review 👌🏻. I own a 2017 Husky 701 and the first thing I canged was the exhaust because of the sound, power and as you mentioned it’s way to hot. The reason for the heat is that the original exchaust comes with a catalyst, so the heat is trapped and can’t get out. This bike is the perfect bike for me. I went on a 3000 km vacation without any problems. So this bike is perfect for longer trips but also perfect for going nuts on it, it’s light and has a lot of power. I LOVE it 😎
(6:17)I think I might be a bit late but the stock exhaust heats up a lot because it has the catalytic converter integrated into it so the gas circles inside the exhaust for a while before exiting, causing the temperature to rise up. This also adds up in weight.
Rotwieler has the baddest ass license plate holder with LED brake and turn signals, I have on on my 701 enduro and it is a great great solution for the blinker problem. Hey man just realized when I Googled Palmer Motorsports that's in Denver North Carolina, I'm over here in Greenville South Carolina if you're around that area let's ride together?
Would this be too much for a first bike? I gotta ruckus right now idk if you’d count that as one. But at least I got experience driving on two wheels on the street.
Eh yes and no. The drz had less power which makes it easier to control but less power means it takes more to get up, plus the 701 has a good balance point due to the rear tank but that ride by wire throttle is super touchy
Would you recommend that a beginner get good on the drz. before upgrading to the 701? I used to ride a dr200 which I looped before getting a drz400sm and crf450l, I feel the drz400sm gets me to balance point easier without a struggle and body manipulation, so I can focus on learning balance point rather than getting up bike up.
I had a 2007 DRZ 400 SM, it was a fun bike but had no power. I've had GSXR's and still miss my supermoto more. Looking to buy a 701. I'm a intermediate rider, should I check out the 501 as well as the 701? I'm just a weekend crusier.
So I’m looking at purchasing a used 2019. Anything you can recommend I look at and inspect before purchasing? The biggest concern of mine with the bike is how well it was broken in. Is there anything I can look for as an indicator it was broken in properly?
I did an 7 hour round trip on it to the mountains once. I'd say it's definitely capable. Bike gave me very little issues over the 4 years I owned it. All I did was changed the oil every 2k miles and checked valves once at 6k. Had 17k+ miles on it before it was stolen along with my Grom
+BLACKOUT14138 You can definitely do that. You can put down a 500 deposit for them to hold the bike for a week or two if needed and you can show up with the $$$ and pay what's left, keep in mind though the price on dealer sites don't include sales tax, or any dealership setup/freight costs, so expect to pay a little more than the quoted price. I went through my credit union with a very tiny interest rate to build up my credit score which has worked awesomely so far. Pretty much what I did was called em up, got an emailed Bill of Sale/Buy order, took that to my bank, payed my deposit to the bank( about 25%) and then went and picked the bike up the next day. I'm sure buying straight out is much simpler.

Have you tried the KTM 690 for comparison? I'm in the market and comparing a lightly used 17 690 to a brand new 18 701. Are the added balance shafts worth the extra $$ 2k+?
Imo yes. The new motor is smoother and less vibrations. It also makes 5 more hp and has 1000 rpm more of rev range. I've rode a 2016 701 that has the old 690 motor in it and vastly prefer my 17

If you're doing light off-road just get the sumo and learn to ride with slicks or you can do like I did and mount Shinko 705's for a tad more bite in dirt
Maybe where you are from but in South Carolina mirrors or turn signals are not required but you still have to use hand signals, which I do.....so....yeah

Oh I bet man. I know I barely got mine. They sell like hotcakes
Mmmm Hotcakes!!!
Would this be a decent bike to use a as dual sport, badass upgrade for crf250l
Oh yeah would work excellent as a dual sport. It's got the motor for long highway riding and suspension and power for off-road.
MotardSteve figured out it’s actually more powerful than the ktm version so I’m definitely getting one when my 250s a little older
When you say "one year, uno year, uno añoos" when you say the Spanish part you say like "one anus but un Spanish 😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Im 5'5 you think i can at least tip toe on it...also how much per month are you paying in it
Depends how much of the 5'5 is inseam. My inseam is like 30-31 and i can't flat foot it but I'm not tip toe ing either. And 204 a month with a 4k down payment through a credit union
@@TwoWheelHighLife my pants inseam is 30 i dont know if thats the same when talking about bikes...
@@oldmanmtb1443 yeah your pants inseam is what I was basically talking about. Basically how much of your height is legs. You should be fine for touching then
@@TwoWheelHighLife how tall are you i think you said it in the video but easier just to ask instead of watching it all over again.
@@oldmanmtb1443 5'9
those cheap hand guards turn in to hand grabbers sometimes when taking dirt naps too.. hate that shit
Would the 701 can be your only bike all day all the time???
Yeah I did it for 2 years with no issues and it was my only transportation. It's still going strong today but I have a Golf TDI and Grom to choose from these days as well
I have a FZ07 and..... I kinda need a excitement like you got with the 701
I had a Ktm smc-r 690 which got stolen after only 2 months now a year later I think I'll buy the 701, it is time for me to get back on the street
Damn... that sucks. How did they steal it?
On highways speeds, how comfy is it?
Stock gearing it cruises at 80 easy
Hey man just realized when I Googled Palmer Motorsports that's in Denver North Carolina, I'm over here in Greenville South Carolina if you're around that area let's ride together?
Would this be too much for a first bike? I gotta ruckus right now idk if you’d count that as one. But at least I got experience driving on two wheels on the street.
I mean as long as you respect the power its fine but believe me this Bike can put you on your ass if you dont take it easy.
Your wheelies have gotten better since your wheelie tutorial. Is that bike a lot easier to wheelie than a drz400sm?
501 is good if you plan to ride in the dirt a good bit, if not 701 is better for street
Does the boring roads come with the 701?
Nah that cost extra
;) haha
Is the speedometer based on the front wheel? I noticed your meter reading goes down when you wheelie.
+Spartan375x Yep. Haha sometimes I've got it down to single digit speeds 😂
"Officer, I wasn't going over the limit, you can see my speed on my GoPro's recording."
+Spartan375x Haha yes. 😂
Looks like it is calculated off the front ABS sensor. This is actually nice because it doesn't get screwed up when you change the gearing.
Your odometer probably reads low too!
So I’m looking at purchasing a used 2019. Anything you can recommend I look at and inspect before purchasing? The biggest concern of mine with the bike is how well it was broken in. Is there anything I can look for as an indicator it was broken in properly?
Oil consumption would be what I'd look for but not sure how'd you see that without riding it a good bit
Do you get any false neutrals on the 701 now?
Not as often. Eventually you learn to shift more positively
Good Review. Solid info.
What strips do you have on your wheels?
Look up "Husqvarna 701 custom wheels" on TH-cam. It shows how I did it
Can you go on a long trip whit it
I did an 7 hour round trip on it to the mountains once. I'd say it's definitely capable. Bike gave me very little issues over the 4 years I owned it. All I did was changed the oil every 2k miles and checked valves once at 6k. Had 17k+ miles on it before it was stolen along with my Grom
@@TwoWheelHighLife what about trips on highway?
@@skrrt1321 easy! Bike tops out at 125 stock gearing. Will hold 80mph easy although I'd recommend a small windshield to make it more comfortable
@@TwoWheelHighLife okej, thanks
whats the buying process like because im saving up for one and i was wondering if i could just show up with all the money
MotardSteve ok thanks
I literally lol with the loop reminiscing clip
+Mr. OnSomeOthaShit Ha yeah it was a must. Hopefully the only loop clip I'll ever have.
Do you have any turn signals? Brake light? Is this bike even street legal?
You a cop?....😂
Yeah it's street legal. My state is very lax on the equipment needed to be road legal.
MotardSteve i am not a cop, but i am building a xs659 street tracker and my state laws require turn signals. Just dont want to get a ticket on my first ride and have to rewire everything
Is this a good choice for a first time rider?
Ehh probably not the best idea tbh
Could you give a small reason why?
@@Brad8350 to much power for a beginner to really handle and very easy to put yourself in your ass with this bike. Could a beginner ride one? Sure but it's gonna take a long while to get comfortable with that kind of power
Understood, thanks for the input man. I’ll probably go for the 883 and get my feet wet first.
Did you put on the decals on the rims?
Yeah it's just strips of Duct tape 😎
There's a whole video I put up about them
Is it good for someone that is like 5”0 tall
Depends really I only have like a 32 in inseam and I can touch the ground.
I tippie toe on one foot at 5"11
did you have to tune it for exhaust? full or slip on?
Euro map and slip on
price point is where im at with buying a supermoto. drz400's are a bit less expensive but its also a lot less bike. The husquavarna seems like an awesome bike!
Oh yeah the 701 is a whole lot of bike
You mentioned you change the gearing what was the stock gearing on the bike
+James Wilson 16/42 now im running 15/46
Have you tried the KTM 690 for comparison? I'm in the market and comparing a lightly used 17 690 to a brand new 18 701. Are the added balance shafts worth the extra $$ 2k+?
Imo yes. The new motor is smoother and less vibrations. It also makes 5 more hp and has 1000 rpm more of rev range. I've rode a 2016 701 that has the old 690 motor in it and vastly prefer my 17
130, crazy. Surprised it doesn't shake itself to bits. Can't be good for it doing that too often?
Kim Jong Il 130 mhp????
Hey Steve I’m thinking of buying the 2018 husky 701 but there is an enduro version and supermoto I wouldn’t Lie when I say I Want to hit the dirt some times but 90% of the time I Will be on the urban roads what Will you suggest and have they corrected the issues on the 2018 variant?
If you're doing light off-road just get the sumo and learn to ride with slicks or you can do like I did and mount Shinko 705's for a tad more bite in dirt
Only issue I can think of that is still common is the countershaft seal leaking. Which is usually because the oring cracks
MotardSteve thank you for the quick answer ! :-) also about Oil and service how many miles would you suggest between each Oil change and service
@@Okan195 I change it every 2k clean/change air filter every 6000 sooner if you ride a lot of dirt. Valves every 6200
I wonder what the top speed would be if you went the other way with the gearing. JW
Why do they call it a 701 to if it’s a 690?
Just a brand thing. KTM makes a 500 and Husqvarna makes the same bike and calls it a 501 same with the KTM 390 and Husky 401
How many miles per tank do you get?
Like 120ish
Is it a good commuter?? As you said 7300 miles in a year that's what I do on my 125 lol. Everyday use??
So what do u think of the new 2019 Honda crf450l coming out I'm October? I'm stroglo thinking about grabbing one.
Idk its heavy for the power it puts out and the price on it is pretty steep for what you get. At that price I'd rather get a 501 or 500
2019 What would you buy today . The ktm 690r or the 701
701 still. KTM comes with a bunch of useless electronic aids(for me atleast) for an extra cost and I really don't like the look of the ktm
Solid review, bro.. nice job
+ThumperTodd Thanks man. Seems like its really getting a good acceptance which is awesome. 😎
Lol my 690 crapped out @ 8k, I babies the shit out of it. Changed oil every 3k with valve check. Broke my heart.
Husqvarna, ktm, husberg are great motorcross bikes . 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Assuming you did a hard break in. I also wasn’t shy with the throttle when I broke her in.
+matthew paz Yep followed the "Motoman" procedure
Would really love the break-in video ASAP just picked up a new 18 😬👍🏽
+MiChael Joseph Ha nice. It's coming this Fri or Saturday. 😎
Just got my moto license and I want my first bike to be a supermoto but I don't know which way to go. Any recommendations for a used supermoto?
Wr250r or drz400 if you want a little more power
I’m in SoCal
I bought a KTM 690 SMCR In 2021
14k when all set and done. I asked for the skid plate they said no lol
Does your cam chain makes rattling noises sometimes especially after wheelies?
+Bohdan Bychkovyak Nope, make sure your oil level is completely full and if doing longer wheelie try to overfill by 100ml.
MotardSteve cool thanks man love your videos btw you funny af lol keep up the good work, if u ever end up in Nj for some reason hit me up!!
+Bohdan Bychkovyak Ha Thanks man. And if I'm ever up that way I'll hit you up. Always down to ride with new peeps. 😎
How many miles do you get from a full tank? Great vid by the way. Thanks for sharing.
Havent really calculated it but close to 110-120 I'd say
7:45 You do realise that raod-riding a bike without turn signals is completely illegal and dangerous, don't you?
Maybe where you are from but in South Carolina mirrors or turn signals are not required but you still have to use hand signals, which I do.....so....yeah
Really cool I want this as my first bike! I've been seeing reviews and just love the husqvarna 701. I'm actually in the process of selling my car of 5 years.. I've never really ridin bikes before but got the bug since watching videos I'm pretty set on getting one..what can u tell me about this and how do I go about starting this endeavor? I don't really have any friends that ride or have bikes but want to learn ..i kno the basics about bikes just need the experience...
Nice. But dude, you didnt say one thing about the passenger seat for the chicky. Too much love for your bike?
Ha she ain't getting on this thing 😂
I'd be interested in a video on your break in method
+dnorman Its coming this Friday evening or Saturday. 😁
Great review Husqvarna makes a 450 SM now but I don’t think ifs street legal? I’m up for a new bike but Can’t make up my mind yet? I’m thinking DRZ
Nah the fs450 is track only but I know people that have gotten them legal.
drz are so boring
I'm thinking of getting a 701 supermoto and putting some dual sport tires and having a twisty road/gravel road/jeep trail road bike all in one. Probably get some medium sized storage on it too. Would it be good for that? I thought about a 701 enduro, but the seats an extra 2.5" tall and I think the 21" front wheel is overkill for what I ride. Your thoughts?
Yeah if you don't ride gnarly trails some Shinko 705's tires will do fine. And they last long on road too so great for a dual purpose use
Logrst wheelie e er on the 701?
Could I not just drill a real tiny hole somewhere on the exhaust
