Fantastic review. I own a 701 and so far love it. Perfect bike for exploring narrow country lanes. It is a bit less vibey than the older KTM 690 SMC R but I do prefer the looks of the older KTM. The dashboard is a joke being powered by a watch battery with no rev counter or gear indicator which the KTM used to have. Apart from that, one of the best bikes out there!
I own two Husaberg Supermotos.. Husaberg was bought by KTM in the mid-90's and eventually dropped as a brand, however mostly because Husqvarna was the better known brand already (also owned by KTM) and they didn't really want 3 competing in-house brands.. To my understanding they actually rebranded Husaberg to Husqvarna internally and then dropped the "old" Husqvarna as most of the engineers from Husabergs were actually working on the more recent Huskies (and the KTM EXC i guess as that was basically the same bike as the Husaberg FE501/Husqvarna FE501 around 2013/14). The 701 (just like the KTM 690 - basically same bike) have made a big jump in regards to maintenance time and cost. My Husas require an oil change every 10 to 15 hours of street riding (inclusive filter) and i check the valves every 30 hours. Such high maintenance requirements have the advantage that you quickly learn doing those things yourself (and after having done this a few times it's not a taunting task anymore). From my experience the Michelin Pilot Power (2ct or 3) are one of the best tires for the SuMos. I even put them onto my Z1000 now and they improved the handling of the bike greatly, even in wet situations (used to have Pirelli on them).
The name Husaberg came up when some of the employes at Husqvarna "went rough" after Husky was sold to...was it Cagiva? Anyroad, they started a new company in Askersund Sweden and they called it Husaberg. If you go there, they have a campsite called Husaberg camping just south of town. Great little harbour by the lake Vättern. (And for you Swedes, I know it's not called Vättern north of Stjärnsund!) Great little town with great roads, lots of lakes and biiiig forests.
Another brilliant review! Straight forward and concise. Everything a viewer wants, and no drivel. I want this bike but, valve checks/adjustments at 6K intervals? That's a deal killer.
I agree, in Atlanta alot of the congestion comes from people picking up/dropping off kids at school or daycare. Also to add to the mess, you have people riding bikes in the middle of the lane during a person work commute. Now to top it off even more, there are people tend to tailgate too much and not pay any attention.
Great idea but as the parents don't give a damn about double yellow line, at a school near me. A 1/2 mile exclusion zone wouldn't work. Great idea though.
I want this bike with every irrational, boorish bone in my body. But, so expensive with the mt07 at just over half the price in nzd and not convinced my license would survive. Agree or can understand most of your points, TMF....except the styling which is (subjectively) terrific! Miles better than smc-r.
Great idea of you taking a garage shot on the bike. It helps a lot of judging the heigth of the bike vs that of an average rider. I suggest that you include such shots with all your bike reviews. The styling of the bike is great unlike that of the GS :). Keep on the good work!
Great video. I have its Enduro brother. Do know that it does come with rear handles. You need to remove the rear fairing and drill holes in the pre-marked places. There are also luggage options from Husky as well as some great aftermarket options.
I utterly loved mine. Had it almost two years. The Wings exhaust was my favourite upgrade. With valve checks and tyres I used to spend close to £1000 for every service. But no other bike offers this level of fun on the legal highway at close to legal speeds. I swapped my 1290 SDR for one and never regretted it 👍
Two points. The bike is transformed by Conti Road Attack 3 tyres. Much more grip on greasy back roads, more easily flickable without the flatter track profile of the SM tyres and twice the tyre mileage at least. Second point, swapping the can for an Akro or Arrow will not only produce more power but reduce fuel consumption considerably and therefore increase tank range substantially.
@@Jajeweet I guess it depends what sort of riding you do and where. The Conti RA3 was voted 'Best backroad tire for Europe ' for a good reason. If you ride fast and hard on badly maintained British country back roads with loose gravel, pot holes, diesel spills and surface changes (right on the apex of bends often) then track based tires simply get knocked off line and slide all over the place whereas the Conti RA3 stays on line like the bike is mounted on rails and grips no matter what. It also lasts 3 times longer than the equivalent Conti Track Attack on a SM. Also I find that after 3 or 4 hard rides really pushing on the track based tires go off, particularly Pirelli super sport type tires which quickly lose their initial grip after a few hard rides. Track based tires also need a lot more counter steer when cranked over hard. Fact is most people out there just do not ride hard enough to realise this stuff! The number off SM riders I see putting their leg out on corners when the bike isn't even cranked over much is a total joke! The only time my boot touches the tarmac is when it is getting ground down along with the peg underneath it as I piss past them art twice their speed.!

I was looking at the two side-by-side today (which brought me to this review), and there was very little difference in seat height. I believe the SM is listed at 890 and the Enduro at 910. Both high, but at that height, what is 20mm?
One thing ive found annoying about the 701 is when riding in wet conditions, especially on dirty roads the mud and water comes off the front mud guard and gets thrown back onto the headlight area. The mud then bakes on to the light until you wash it off. This is annoying and if riding a distance it is a little dangerous this time of year. Great bike though

hey great review!!!! would you recommend it as for a city commute and some highway?? is the engine torquey at low revs or you need to be full on throttle to get it moving??? thanks!!!
Only thing I do not like about the 690 engine is the 6000 mile services that require a valve check every time. This makes doing your own servicing a lot harder and it's use as a proper cross country adventure bike quite limited.
Excellent review as usual ! Only thing I didn't like is the rather expensive ~£400 service cost every 6000 miles but then that's probably better than the Honda CR450L which mentions valve check and adjust every 1,800 miles. As an occasional 2nd bike it would be great fun nonetheless.

Is the bike lowered or standard one, please? Did you had any issues with seat height, great bike but that's my concern, cheers, great video as always 👍
With this type of bike, it's a good idea to learn to adjust valves yourself. It has screw type valves, which means you don't need any parts other than a screwdriver, so that 400 a year turns into 0. Also, I don't think it's necessary to do them every 6000, usually they only go out of spec after 12000 miles. I don't know why they charge so much though, my local mechanic adjusted the valves on my KTM for 30€, which seems reasonable to me considering it's not very difficult to do.
@@TheMissendenFlyer Nevermind, apparently only the older version of the 690 has screw type valves, the newer ones have shims. Still, people seem to say it's not that difficult to do, so for 400£ I'd say it's worth it.

Hey Mr Flyer, thanks for the review. Like the look of this bike a lot, though I like the idea of the enduro version for off-road too, so it would be a hard choice.
Pity the green lanes are closed now. Would have been nice to see it off road. I would imagine it would be very capable. Good review
...well with some nobblies on yes....
hey great review!!!! would you recommend it as for a city commute and some highway?? is the engine torquey at low revs or you need to be full on throttle to get it moving??? thanks!!!
It's torquey....
I am very interested in this bike for my first motorcycle however I am on the shorter side (173cm), will that be a problem for me with this bike?
Yeah possibly, it is quite a tall bike...
Great right up. seem like a fun bike. off roading now and again.
Fantastic review
Great review👍
Thanks Hugh
Will you be doing the klx250 and honda crf250l any time soon?
Or atleast a comparison?
You never know - if I can get my hands on one then yes!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Would love to see the fantic 250 enduro in this group, cant find many reviews of this bike at all
What camera mic are you using
Cheapo eBay special - see link below
can you turn the abs off for stoppies and that?
Err, I had the bike a while ago and don’t honestly remember - sorry!
My dream bike… I will only be able to afford it secondhand, but it’s ok. My goal is to have one within these next 2 years.
The wait and anticipation is part of the fun!
Nice that 701 is fantastic I want 2 please Santa
Cheers
Good luck with that!
A cracking toy to have loads of fun on.
Avoid motorways and only undertake the odd tour and youd be great on it.
Thanx TMF
Great to hear from you again SD!
I bought a new 2021 mt07 and only paid £107 for the year for fully comp insurance with mce, im only 25 and live in london
Sharp Bends its simple to do your own service, change oil is difficult?
@@michaeljkasnter Oil and filter change sure, but adjust the valves maybe not, depends what you are comfortable doing yourself I guess.
What is the height of the bike in feet and didn't you change the height of it..Is it the real bike height.you didn't do changes to the bike height ...
I didn't make any changes - all as standard
is this insurance per year?
Do you prefer this or the Duke 790 for someone who can only own one bike and primarily rises for fun on the weekends?
If you only have one bike then the Duke 790 is probably the one to have, if you want a fun bike, this is the one to have! Thanks for watching - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer why not this if I only have one bike? Thanks for making this content :)
@@AAKhanivore Just my opinion...the 790 is a better all rounder, this is a one trick pony (hooligan fun)....you get whatever you want, you did ask!
TheMissendenFlyer haha ok :) I was just asking!
@@TheMissendenFlyer which power wheelies better?
Great Review !
Thank you Najeeb....
have you rode the KTM 690? if so which do you think is best? my KTM 690 was stolen so looking for another supermoto and was going for another KTM but always wonder about this bike.. cheers
I have indeed - I prefer this.....
+TheMissendenFlyer thanks for the reply, may I ask what it is you prefer to the KTM? I know they are both made by KTM but always thought there must be some differences or why would they bother.. thanks again, all help much appreciated as I'm still trying to make my mind up on which version to buy
+SunzOffski yea I did fear that myself, seems very money grabbing I must say, suppose I best just have a go on one and see for myself if anything seems different, I wonder if they are the same price new? will have to check.. thanks for the reply anyway mate
What gloves you wearing TMF? They look good. I need some new lightweight gloves :)
Goldtop - review coming soon....
TheMissendenFlyer look forward to it :)
Is the bike lowered or standard one, please? Did you had any issues with seat height, great bike but that's my concern, cheers, great video as always 👍
Standard height - tippy toes only for me!
Oh right I didn't realise they were screw adjustable - sounds like a good idea to do them yourself then as you say....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Nevermind, apparently only the older version of the 690 has screw type valves, the newer ones have shims. Still, people seem to say it's not that difficult to do, so for 400£ I'd say it's worth it.

So why didn't you do it?
