Ampleforth has I think the largest monastic community in the UK, 60+ monks. I went there for a weekend's retreat a few years ago expecting it to be like Lourdes. I was disappointed. It had no monastic atmosphere whatsoever. It just felt like school with a few monks tacked on. I was really turned off by it.
