No guardrails, no service station, no food places.... one has to be self-reliant in this environment. Tricky to pass other vehicles in the switchbacks so you have to lookahead for pull-outs. By the time you arrive at the bottom, ❤️ rate is way up. Definitely a must do if you have the vehicle for it and are not elevation challenged 🙃.
Like 55 👍 Hello from your friends in Naples, Florida. An awesome drive on Shafer Trail. We enjoyed. Thank you so much for sharing with us, Happy New Year. 💯
Wow, Anita, this is out of this world. I think I would be worried about going over the edge. As for passing another car, well 😳. The Petroglyphs were amazing, to think that First Nation People were there 6,000 years ago and before. The fact that the people of the world all existed on Pangea after it split 700,000 years ago is also hard to comprehend, groups of people all moved in different directions, which led to establishing many different languages, customs, and cultures. I find this amazing Anita. The views are simply amazing. Having hikes in the area and rock climbing is a bonus, too. This is certainly an absolutely amazing area. We have lush green hikes, mountains, and trails, but you have such diverse areas geographically and geologically. Mountains, grasslands, deserts, snow, blazing heat. The US certainly has everything, and my brother said when he did two tours at The Fort in DC, everything over here is bigger and better. One worry for me with being out there is personal protection. I know we only see negative things on the news, but I hope you have open carry or a least pepper spray for that one obstreperous person in 100,000 who is looking for trouble. Or has my view of life been negatively impacted by the few? Irregardless, a beautiful vlog, well researched, and the views were simply amazing. Thank you for sharing, Anita. I enjoyed this so, so much. 😳😎😊
Passing another vehicle on the switchbacks can be tricky as it is rather narrow in spots. But if you like the back roads and don't mind heights, it is a great trail to take. I am always fascinated by petroglyphs as well. I forever wonder what they say? I wish I knew. Thanks so much for watching!
The switchbacks looks fun. The 4runner has an awful turning radius despite being a shorter wheelbase, at least in our experience. Stunning landscape. Utah is amazing! Thanks for bringing us along.
Yes Utah is absolutely amazing. One of my favorite states to visit. The Ford Ranger actually handled the switchbacks better than I thought it would. It is a fun trail if you don't mind heights and I recommend it if you are in the Moab Utah area.
Huge looking canyons. Crazy scenery even had a bit of rain 🌧 on your journey. Still some nice views. Thanks for taking us along on the adventure cool too watch 👍
I was surprised by the rain as well, but we were there in July which is 'monsoon' season for the desert. The views are amazing. Thanks so much for watching!
I love the red “outback” looking landscape here. Strange to see rain here in blue skies and desert! Wow! It looks like a very interesting adventure. Beautiful, scenery. Not sure if our outlander would make it but enjoyed coming along with you. Have a lovely weekend Anita & family. 😊✌🏻
This probably is similar in color to the rock in the Outback. There is a lot of sandstone in this area of the country. This was such a pretty drive, despite the bit of rain that we had. Thanks for watching!
Really wonderful diving tour! Thanks for driving so we don’t have to - lol! We’ve visited Canyonlands a couple times, and have seen the road, but we didn’t have the right vehicle to give it a try. I loved seeing the layers and rock walls along the way… truly amazing! You did a great job driving, esp in the rain. Enjoyed the views and your narration - big thanks! 😎👍👍🏜🏜💛
Thank you! Yes this road is a great way to get down into the canyons and you have such a different perspective from there as opposed to the mesa on the top. I love all of the rock formations too. I am so glad that you enjoyed it.

This red dirt road is so beautiful. The mountains with red soil are not too high. One side is a high mountain, one side is a cliff, be careful! Wish you a nice and happy day.
Beautiful rocks formation. Shafer trail looks amazing place. Very good skill car drive my friend. It was rain too. Gooseneck Overlook, I wonder the forest down there. Potash Ponds, it's so big area. I enjoyed watching😊 Thank you so much for your great sharing🎉❤❤ Have a nice day, Anita❤
The scenery there is like being in another planet, absolutely breathtaking views and landscape. Wonderful drive, although I don't know if I would dare to do it 😅👍
Thank you! It is such a beautiful park of Utah to explore. The nice thing about this trail is that you are down in the canyon - gives you a different perspective on everything.
Holy cow - that is awesome - AND frightening all at the same time! But how cool that you can get down in like that - what a beautiful view - thank you! Keep making memories & adventure on! ~Karen & Shannon WOY
Liked #93, so this is what one might think if one is to land on Mars! I've seen so many photos and videos but first to see this driving through it. Wow, it is really really rusty red Mars!!! I love those nature carved tops! Tranquil and makes you think very deeply in appreciation of mother nature's work. Gooseneck point is awesome!!!
Such a great way to describe it! Yes if you drive into the canyon, you have a much better appreciation for how large this area actually is. The colors of the sandstone here are beautiful. Have a great weekend!
That was a beautiful drive that we almost did on our 84 days road trip in 2018 . The Shafer Trail was on by bucket list and was suggested to us by our TH-cam friends "Michel Lavallée" that has the same channel name . Once we got there Hélène didn’t want to go down with our Ford Escape, the weather was nice do. Good thing because we wouldn’t had time to visit the park that day . You passed at the famous "Thelma & Louise point " after the "Gooseneck Overlook "at 18:49 in your video but I think that the view of the "Gooseneck Overlook "was even better . The views are stunning everywhere , I did love to see the views going down and also the Jug Handle Arch and the Petroglyphs. Good thing you didn’t catch to much bad weather because on that road when it gets wet it’s quite slippery . Did a full view of your video and really enjoyed it 👍🥰. You can come and have a look at our videos of Canyonlands I am sure you would love them 😉 Have a great week Hélène & Serge 👩❤️👨🌈🇨🇦
Isn't Canyonlands such a gorgeous park? At Ford Escape probably could have handled the trail just fine as it probably has enough ground clearance. But the switchbacks are not for the faint of heart, as there are very steep drop-offs and the road is narrow. I was really glad that the showers we encountered didn't turn into anything worse, because that area can get flash floods in the summer months. Hope that you have a great weekend ahead! Take care.
@@blendedtravels Yes i guess I could do it also even if it’s not a 4 wheel drive. Hélène can get very nervous in a car even going slow 🤪 I have to say that we had made a road before entering into Canyonlands …the Cottonwood Canyon Road from Cannonville to Route 89 , it was to much for her so all the dirt road after this one was out of question doing them 🥴 It’s to bad because the nicest place are off the paved roads. Have a great upcoming weekend also 😉👍

Oh my gosh! what an amazing place! love how you showed us the massive scale of the place by using vehicles and ppl in the background! the way road winds is like a painting! Just magnificent! 😍
Wow, your hike on The Shafter Trail in Canyonlands National Park sounds amazing! The Shafer Canyon Overlook and Gooseneck Overlook seem like breathtaking spots to take in the beautiful scenery of the canyon and surrounding areas. It's great that you were able to complete the trail without any issues in your 2022 Ford Ranger Sport 4X4 with stock tires, and I appreciate the recommendation for a high clearance vehicle with either 4WD or AWD. The trail reminds me of the roads we had here back then, rugged, on the side of the mountains and you can see the sheer drop, no guardrails whatsover. There are still dangerous narrower roads out here. Thank you for sharing your experience and tips for others who may want to explore this trail. Happy trails to you too!
If you are in the Canyonlands area of Utah, this is a wonderful driving trail to explore. There are some nice stops and a lot of interesting rock formations. I also really liked the petroglyphs at the end of the trail. Thanks so much for watching!
Scary drive but epic views. The colors and the scenery are breath taking. I can only imagine the feeling of driving and taking it all in. I hope no one does this drive at night. Those switch backs are no joke
An absolutely beautiful, but rugged drive, Anita. Great thing you had your truck. The views are stunning! Loved it too once you got back out to HWY 279. We've done portions of that before and loved seeing it again and the petroglyphs now! Thanks so much for bringing us along. Gorgeous!
Yes the petroglyphs along the highway were very interesting and there are so many of them in that area. We really enjoyed the Shafer Trail and would recommend it to people that don't mind heights or the switchbacks. It is a great way to get into the canyon.
