GHOST TOWN in the BLACK HILLS: ABANDONED SPOKANE SOUTH DAKOTA MINING TOWN
Spokane, South Dakota is a ghost town in the Black Hills. Only a few buildings remain, some rusted old cars, and a root cellar, from days gone by. Spokane is one of the few remaining intact ghost towns of the Black Hills, however nature is rapidly reclaiming this area.
Spokane, South Dakota was founded in 1890 and was originally intended to be a gold mining town. Instead, miners found silver, lead, zinc, mica, and other minerals. The best year for the mine in the Black Hills was 1927, when profits totaled over $144,000. However, by the late 1930’s, the mine began to fail and closed in 1940. In the 1950’s a few companies tried unsuccessfully to reopen the mine. A watchman remained at the town site, until the mid 1980’s.
The remains of Spokane, South Dakota are just north of Custer State Park’s northern boundary, near the junction of Iron Mountain Road and North Playhouse Road. It is an easy 5 to 10 minute walk back into the site. It is a fun place to explore, in the Black Hills.

This is look like abandoned town, the former developed mining land in spokane south dakota is still visible, we love watching old memory videos. thanks for filming.
What a cool looking ghost town ...those cars looked like they were probably from the 1950's or so...shame just left like that...so many of those little towns all over USA left to rot...what a shame...thanks for sharing some of the history with us today!
Very cool. I'm taking a group to the Blackhills in August for the Motorcycle Rally.
That sounds like fun! I hope you guys have a great time.
Hello, "Blended Travels"! Thank you for showing us such a great video! I feel very happy! I look forward to your next work! Have a nice day!

Thanks! Have a great day.
Great 👍... Enjoy watching...nice 👍
Totally missed the notification on this one Anita, sorry I'm late. Such a brilliant captivating place, we love old places like this. It was a stunning location and nice to see the remaining buildings being took over by nature and atmospheric old cars just laying there in this ghost village. No idea what cars they were but the animals must have loved them 😃That was really interesting to see and think about all what went on here all those years ago 👍~ Anna
Hi Anna! This was a fun place to explore and I found out that the cars were 1954 Fords. I agree that the animals of the forest seemed to love them. I hope you and Alf are doing well. We are off to Colorado later today for a road trip. I am looking forward to that. Take care!
@@blendedtravels Ah so so nice that you are off to Colorado, safe travels 🙏I'll look forward to the videos 🙂 Yes we are all well here thank you and hope you are too :)
The BLACK HILLS of South Dakota | DEADWOOD | SPEARFISH CANYON | CUSTER STATE PARK | WIND CAVE 당신이 방문한 곳은 엄청난 장소입니다.
Oh what an interesting site. Shame about the abandoned buildings- do love those relics despite that. Those cars or what's left of them. A work of art sort of. Sad and interesting at the same time. A lovely clearing- so green. The washing machine made me smile. I remember those. Interesting. The graffiti artists found the buildings too I see. 👌🇳🇱🙋♀🥝
The washing machine made me smile too. My Grandma used to have one in that style and it made me think of her. Yes the animals of the forest did make the cars their own work of art. I found it rather interesting. Have a wonderful weekend!
Really interesting history of mining in the area. The old buildings are hanging in there… the trees are moving in on them though. Steve took a look and guesses the two cars are from the 1950s. I would have no idea about them either. I bet they’ve made a nice home for generations of mice and other critters! Enjoyed the exploring! - Jen 😄👍👍
I love exploring old places! I camped out at an abandoned schoolhouse a couple weeks back. Looked like you had a good time!
Thanks! It was a fun place to explore. Have a great 4th!

Thanks! I always appreciate hearing from you. Have a good day!
Keep up the interesting content
Cannot think that Quartzite would be very pleasant in those dusty conditions. We passed through here on our first visit to the USA many years ago now. We were heading to Phoenix for the first of what has been five visits to date. On four of those visits, in this famously dry and sunny locale it has rained on us! Thankfully we did not experience those windy conditions.
That’s look very interesting house and looks like nice story. The scenery on the way are stunning and gorgeous. Relaxing and lovely 🥰 view. Have a great day. Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪.
Spectacular Meteora presentation, BT👍88 Everything is really impressive! Appreciate the visit, Friend, thank you 🥰 Have a blessed day and keep in touch ~
Thanks so much! Have a wonderful day.
Boom and bust town of old Spokane SD is fun to explore Don't know the kind of cars but probably late 40s early 50s Enjoyed the exploration Thanks and wish you all the best Cheers 73
I found out they were 1954 Fords. I found them fascinating. Thanks for watching!
@@blendedtravels Thanks!
Lovely🌄
Thank you!
Yes, time is merciless, but once upon a time people lived there and they had work! But alas, now only ruins remain! It was very interesting to visit this abandoned city!❤️👍
I always wonder what life was like for the people that used to live here. It was an interesting place to visit. I hope you are having a wonderful week!
@@blendedtravelsYes. This is very interesting! There is also a similar place not far from us. Peat was mined there in the thirties of the last century, but over time it became unnecessary and people were forced to leave this place. And there, too, there were abandoned houses with history! Although now it’s all overgrown and crumbling! And for some reason this place was called "Russian America". Maybe there is something about this place on the Internet.
Very nice sharing. I like it. Have a wonderful time. Greetings! ~ Milan
Thanks! I hope you are having a great day.

How eerie yet so beautiful! To think it’s just sitting there forgotten by time. Those cars, wow. So creepy and haunting to see inside the old structures. Incredible to explore. You captured an amazing find. Thanks for sharing with us! 😊💕

Wow! That's right! it looks like ghosts will live in old houses where people left! The mine has been abandoned! Thank you for sharing the right video for the hot summer! Hello! Greetings again from 100tour KOREA! Stay in touch, my dear friend! See you again! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks! I hope you are having a great day.
Very nice video ...👍👍👍
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
What a neat find, Anita. I must have been right close by many times, but have never noticed the trail back to it. Would love to explore and we loved coming along with you. The ticks? We have enough of those here! I have no idea what kind of cars they were but the 40's or even 50's sounds right. Loved the explore.
I thought for sure we were going to have at least a couple of ticks crawling on us, but neither one of us had one! I found out the cars were 1954 Fords. I thought they were pretty cool. I even found out my Dad had one back in the day. I think we have probably driven past this about 5 times in the past and didn't know it was there. Glad we found it now! I hope you had a great weekend.
What a wonderful place to explore, but as you say you probably wouldn't want to go inside the properties as not very safe. The Black Hills look just gorgeous.
It is one of our favorite vacation spots in the Midwest of the country. Thanks!
Seeing all these abandoned houses is scary, but the surroundings look nice. Thanks for sharing - All the best.
It was a fun place to explore. Thanks!

Ghost towns, abandoned former mining towns, are truly scary. deep in the middle of the forest
It was an interesting place to explore. Thanks for watching!
Hi Anita this was very different but most enjoyable! Great find! The animals have definitely had their way with the inside of the car! Have a fab weekend ❤
Thanks! I probably have driven past the little parking area for this ghost town 5 times and never knew it was there. I wish I would have found it a few years back when more of the buildings were still standing. But it was a fun place to explore none the less. I hope you are both doing fantastic!
Is there places to swim here?
Yes there are several parks in the area with very nice beaches. Thanks for watching!
It's amazing how the work dried up and people just abandoned everything to the elements. A nice little find. Thanks for sharing Anita.
