Since she didn't really explain, she attached what looks like iron on interfacing to the "ribbon" fabric to make the final ribbon more stiff and give it the very flat ends to make it more cute. Otherwise the fabric might be too floppy.
Thankyou I noticed that. I presume its light/medium weight? Also I can't quite figure out how to change the sizing from hers to mine? Am I being totally dumb here as a novice sewer? ❤
@@donaunsworth5620you could try marking a rectangle for the bodice front. Measure from where you want the neckline to start (say your neck/top of your chest) to where you want it to end (say your waist) and that should be the height/width of the rectangle. Length can be half your bust measurement. Cut out the top corners like she did to account for your armpits, and then put the rectangle on your body to check the fit. You'll find places that need to be folded over/puckered/cut away for the bodice to fit your form properly, mark these as your darts. Two on the sides of your bust and two on the waist. You'll have to eyeball it and divide the total folded over measurement into two for both the waist area and the sides of the bust. That'll give you a preliminary pattern, you can add seam allowances and make it into a proper pattern piece. Then for the back you can make the width of the straps an inch or 1/2 an inch less than the width of your bodice front. Her length is probably good, but you could make it less or more. I'd recommend tying a bow with some fabric around your waist first to figure out how much you need. For the skirt I'd watch a circle skirt video, but you could probably get away with cutting out a waist measurement that's twice your waist measurement (or 3x, or as much or as little as you like, depending on how ruffly you want it to be), and extrapolating a circle from there, kind of. Like you mark out 1/2 the waist circumference, and then put your measuring tape on that line. Mark down to the length you want it to be, and then mark. Keep doing this by putting your measuring tape on a different point at the waist line and measuring down from there. Add seam allowance and cut it out. Cut out two pieces and ta-da, you have a skirt. For the ruffle you can use her measurements and also for the pockets. But you can change them around if you want. Longer ruffles means more gathers. Shorter ones means less gathers. Pockets can be made bigger or just gotten rid of entirely, if you'd rather not go through the hassle of sewing them. And there you have it. I hope this made some modicum of sense, and I'm sorry if this explanation wasn't very good.
@@donaunsworth5620 I made this dress as someone who is medium/large. I would recommend adding a few inches width-wise to the bodice. I made mine 20 inches long ratehr than 17 and made the incisions 5-6 inches instead of 4.5. I kept all of the positions the same. If you need more space around your sides, add a few inches to the ribbon part so you can still tie it around your back. I hope this helped!
I've been stuck in my college dorm room in Shanghai for a month and a half now cause of covid and am currently sewing this dress by hand out of my bedsheets 😅 So far so good! The bodice is almost done :)))
So pretty! Great idea to use the sheets. I love thrifting pretty sheets. Would love to see some sweat shirt/pants sets, some 2 piece loungers sets, and dresses for winter.
My uncle is gonna gift me the blue brother sewing machine and i am totally making this! We have 2 fitted dark blue bedsheets here we dont use anymore and i am willing to use them to make this thank you so much for jnspiring me to do this i have improved alot on sewing because of you. Thank you so much for making content that motivates and inspires people like me :))
I do the exact same thing with ruffles: divide them into four sections, pin to four equal points on bodice or dress before going ahead to gather in order to ensure even fullness all round. Wow!
You are awesome!!! Oh my goodness!! I have taken a hiatus from sewing for about a year because I was obsessed and God for sure humbled me and I appreciate how kick butt you are and how you just make, to make! Love it and thank you!
I watched Mia Maples videos, and I'm sew too, I hope to watch more as I made my cousin prom dress, and I didn't think it was hard but you make sew look easy! I don't why but I might start sewing again, thank you!
I’m a beginner and I’ve been trying to find good tutorials because most of the ones I watch are too fast for me but I absolutely LOVE your tutorials and they are so easy to follow. Thank you so much this was really helpful!!!
I love the finished dress so much, I'm going to try and make it for my sister who is going to have a baby next summer as this will fit over her bump without restricting while still looking super cute 😍❤️ thanks for sharing it with us 💜🙏
@@nekoneko644 it turned out lovely and came in handy now that it's getting very warm here and she has gotten reaaally pregnant by now (she's due in the middle of June) 😊 I widened the front of the skirt a bit to have some more room for gathering just to be safe and didn't add the ruffle for a more minimalistic look and less tripping hazard 😂 and she loves it. Will also be great for nursing in the future as it gives quick and easy access 😊😂 hope your sister will be as happy with it as mine is, sending you happy vibes 🙏✌️😊
Using sheets for fabric is both economical and, and easy to find. The first thing to watch out for is what the sheets are made of because some can wrinkle very easily.
omg it looks so good on you! I made a very similar piece to this hat was actually inspired by your previous pink dress that also had ties in the back! And it's such a flattering piece it will look great on anyone that decides to make it! much love 💕
really love your videos! I've been following you like 1 year ago? during the quarantine, I actually learned a lot from you and made tons of failing works (I am a beginner). And now I came to the US for college and got my first sewing machine! Can't wait to see more videos!
I’m binge watching all of your videos bc they are so interesting (new subscriber) i have never sewed anything in my life. I’m recently trying to learn how to crochet but my schedule never allows enough time to learn hobbies that I want to pick up. Maybe one day I’ll it a try. But nonetheless your creations are so beautiful!!! Cant wait until your future updates 🤩
OMG seriously, like, when I imagine what Studio Ghibli characters would look like IRL, you are EXACTLY what I always pictured Sophie Hatter would look like. That's so crazy!
I love this video ..very helpful. I love the doggo bomb...I LOVE Her ears. you can get sheets at yard sales, craigslist, fb marketplace in your local area, and thrift stores.. :D
This is SO Gorgeous and looks SO easy to make!! Heading to the thrift store Now . . . . I'll let ya'll know how this goes!!! XD (You just got yourself a loyal subscriber!!)
Great idea!!! The dress is soooo pretty 😍 ! But I still can’t wrap my head around how to make the bust. Like.. how can I make the measurements fit my body?
This gives me kinda ‘’casual fairy vibes’’ Like I imagine a fairy or an elf would wear this while taking a stroll through an enchanted forest! Anyways love the video and the dress turned out super pretty! 🥰 Edit: Omg I just realized I was probably thinking of a fairy because the blonde hair and green dress reminds me of Tinker Bell 😂✨
I made a modified version of this. I don't have elastic so, I added an 1/3 extra to the skirt. Then attached the top (which I extended width wise by 2-3 inches) in the middle. After I sewed the waist ribbon along the length of the skirt. That way its a wrap around. And instead of attached the shoulder straps to the front and back, I increased their length and attached only to the front. So its dual tying
I’m not much of a seamstress but I can definitely relate to starting a project then getting bored 2 days in, setting it aside and then not coming back to it for several months🤣🤣

When you tie it multpile times and wash it does it stay creased or easily ironed out?

Love the dress. Something about olive green ruffles makes me happy 😊

You should make a matching bag, hat, etc. for this dress from the leftover sheet!
I love the bag designs from Don Kim! All are reversible.
Or headband, bracelet, flowers, etc!

I think I'm gonna try to adapt this to a Christmas ensemble! Thank you so much!
Your cherry sweater is so cute!
Loving the green fabric
This ribbon back could totally be crossed in the back and tied in the front too, with a little length added! I love this as an alternative to buttons
I made mine with crossed straps in the back and I love how it turned out.
