    Great video. One small correction (a very common error on almost all the armor-plate vids). "Spall" is the metal flaking off the BACK of the armor. "Splatter" is the bullet fragments from the front of the armor. The 'spall protection' works on both. But, spall is caused by the velocity/kinetic energy being transferred *through* the solid armor causing a cone-shaped piece flaking off the back. (Think of a bank window that has been shot with a small caliber, there is a cone-shaped piece broken off the back...that is spall.
    On their web, the steel L3+ is $90, and the L4 CERAMIC is 149!!! Decisions, decisions!

    First off great video, loved it. Second beware ordering from RTS. I ordered and paid for two sets of equipment from them. I was only sent 1 set, RTS swore I was sent 2, I had security cam videos showing that the 2 UPS drivers (one driver in training) only had one small box and I accepted from them one small box, RTS still stated I had received 2. I called RTS the moment I opened the box and only saw one set. Long story short, I got no where with RTS even with the videos Ishared with them, they held strong that they had sent two. Thank goodness my Credit Card had a clause to help with issues like this. They took the videos and my statements and notes from my calls to RTS. They found RTS to be at fault and refunded my money. This may have been a one off event with RTS but wanted to let you know.

    Kinda looks like that coating is on there more for corrosion protection than spall mitigation, spartan armor has the same thickness for that reason and they make you pay extra for a thicker coating meant to contain spalling.

    The first couple shots with the AK looked liked a lot of bullet fragments splashing out the top and sides. Not sure if I would trust the coating on this plate that is supposed to prevent that. Great video KB. God bless you all

    • @rodiculous9464
      @rodiculous9464 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would make sense since typical ak ammo has a bimetal jacket, i.e. the jacket is mostly steel and likely to spall against more steel. There's less of it around now but I would image a true steel core like the old soviet m43 or chinese steel core would be even worse, same for m855, it looked like the m855 spalled a lot too

    Great vid reminds me of mrgunsngear 😂 I personally think the best use of steel plates is for training, like when you're doing competitions and such not something to "go into battle with" per se. Never understood why people buy non ballistic training plates when steel is just a bit more and will actually stop a round albeit not ideally

    Ive had 458 break ears off steel and snap chains. The only round that ever fd up my steels was 204 Ruger. Left nasty divots. But the Spall or exploding round does Alot of damage. I have mud under mine and on my second set of legs. The steel ones still get fd up.
