When I was working at Harley we had this issue with a handful of bikes. Dunlop released a bad batch of tires that we had to be replaced. People don't understand just how important tires are on your motorcycle. Properly inflated and maintained tires could be the difference between making it home safe and ending up in the hospital.

I was told by the dealer that regardless how new your vehicle is weather bike or car you should check the manufacturer date of the tire. Every tire has one. Just like you said the vehicle could be brand new and just sitting and the rubber starts to wear. I was told anything over 5 years should be changed.

I have a Street Glide Special and the only tires that were available in my size were Metzler tires.... and I felt a horrible wobble immediately after. Especially when turning. I kept pulling over thinking maybe the PSI was low or possibly I had gotten a flat again. By the time I arrived home in CA I went to have new tires installed. It seems to be a Metzler tire issue from what I'm hearing and what I've witnessed. Metzler is the stock tire on challengers and pursuits. I had a Kawasaki Vaquero, also a heavy, fixed fairing bagger. When it needed tires I put the Metzlers on and it did that shimmy shake. It's very unsettling. Always check your tire pressure, helps prevent cupping of the tire on these heavy bikes.

@@RidingandWrenching I had experienced a similar issue with my 2020 Harley Ultra. once the tire was changed, it went away. So i think maybe this issue goes to how these dealers transport/store the bikes or the lack of tire rotation, especially on a bike that weighs in at almost 1000 lb.

My Challenger has done this with a well worn front tire... it had started cupping and it was the cause of the instability at 45-50mph. With hand off the bars it would shimmy like it was trying to start a tank slapper, just as you stated. Replaced the tire with a new CruiseTec and all is fine.

I knew exactly what the problem was at the start of your video as I had the same problem on a '99 Honda ST 1100 . The front tire was cupped . This is caused by sitting for a prolonged time ,but mainly not keeping tires inflated as they should be . New tire fixed my problem just as it did yours. Tires are so critical. When I bought my 2008 Heritage, I made the dealer check the tire codes even though they looked new and the bike only had 16,000 miles on it. They ended up putting brand new tires on for me. Within a week, on the third ride, my rear tire tube blew out. I was told they put the wrong size tube in the tire, and it was a tire tube that was known to blow. They refused to help me and said I didn't have any warranty. Dunlop wouldn't help, since the wrong size tube was used.
Good thing I didn't get killed. I thought if I bought a used bike from a Harley dealer that I would feel safe. I never had any problems with the bikes I purchased from private sales. Danbury Harley-Davidson lost my business, and my brother will never buy another bike from them either. He has purchased two Ultra Limited bikes from them in the past.
I'm glad you figured out the problem, Robert!

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was losing my mind with my 2022 Challenger. I had 4700 blissful miles until the dealer replaced both tires due to a sudden groaning noise that sounded like bearings. It was a moan/groan. The tires were covered at 4700 miles. I get the bike back, and this is what exactly what I have experienced since. Took it back after 50 miles to be told they did not feel anything. Rode it home, found the wobble not as bad, however, still there and a little concerning. Took a video, emailed it to them and waiting to hear back (they are closed for the next 2 days). It is going back until corrected.

Robert, Good info. Glad you did the analysis, talked with techs & engineers, and got the right answer. Who would have known? Good thing they didn't push you off with no resolution. I for one can tell you my experience with Indian/Polaris. My 2014 Indian Vintage engine cut off shortly after starting, over & over again, months after I bought it from a private party. I took it to my local dealer, Boston Indian, actually in Revere, Ma. Lots of Indian owners aren't so fortunate since dealers are spaced far apart. So they came back with good news: "It's covered". It was a factory defect on the ECM, the electric control module. Fortunately for me I went to the dealer who was aware of the issue. Unfortunately for those who buy used, Polaris does not (or can not) seek out 2nd owners to send a 'notice recall'. I later found the Indian recall & reposted it on an Indian owners internet facebook site to let others know about this real, known issue. I am so glad you too are concerned about bike owners and take the time to make issues heard. thanx.

I have the same (exact) motorcycle. I had the same problem with the wobble at 40 mph, when my hands were not on the grips. I thought it was because of the Aftermarket (KST) handle bars. After I checked the TP, it was less than 38. I still have the same front tire, at 12K miles, I had to replace the rear tire. Unfortunately, I was stuck in Tampa, on a Sunday, the only place available with a tire, was a Harley rear tire. :( so far, so good.

I work for one of the big three. I always change my factory tires on newer cars that I owned. In the past 30 years because some of those tires sit around the tire manufacturer and are bought in bulk . I say always check the date on the tires when they’re manufactured and the rating of customers reviews for each set of tires .

Great video and good to know! I have a Pursuit Limited Premium and haven't had that issue. Mine is with the clutch and throttle. I used to have a Vintage and didn't have a problem letting the clutch out in first gear and killing it but my Pursuit has stalled out several times. I start to feel then give it a little more throttle but shouldn't have to do that. Planning on getting that looked at soon.

I have a 2022 Pursuit Limited that I purchased in September and have had no problems that I've noticed until recently.
Upon getting close to my 5000-mile service, I had my cruise set at 35 mph and removed both of my hands from the bars to adjust my helmet, and I got the violent shaking you're talking about.
While I had it in for the service, it was on the list of the 2 things that I wanted to have checked out. Unfortunately, the technician didn't ride it before he started the service. As I was getting my keys and paying the bill, the technician stopped for a quick talk and told me that he thought it had to do with the fixed fairing and low tire pressure. I keep a constant eye on the air pressure with the TPMS on the ride command, and it was only down 2 lbs.
I also had a Vetter fixed fairing back in the early 80s, and it never shook no matter the speed or air pressure.
It's my belief that there is a problem with the tire. Unfortunately, the dealer that I use is understaffed and always in a hurry. I intend to keep riding it until it gets worse, and then I'll take it back again. Now that there's a record of it and I have the tire warranty, any other problem should be covered.

I love how everyone is having a cow about DOT numbers and the age of tires even though that had nothing to do with your issue. I’ve bought tires 5 years left over new with no issue and have ridden with tires that were 15 years old with no issue.
A poorly stored or long term stored tire can exhibit characteristics that aren’t friendly but often times with use will work themselves out. Nice that the dealer replaced the tire for you.

It's not just the Indian pursuit. I bought a sports bike brand new and they shipped it to me and it had a violent shake or vibration. I inspected the front tire and it had 2 indents or bubbles in the front tire. When they shipped the bike they strapped it down massively on a metal rack and shipping type metal container, and it was strapped down so tight that it put 2 indents in the tire.

My 2019 Goldwing DCT does the same thing, I had a new tire installed last year and it went away, however, after wear and use of the tire, it has returned. Not sure why, but, must be something to do with the cupping and how the tire wears on my bike. I've just learned to live with it not let pressure off the bars at 40 and below. Maybe the balancing plates they make for my bike would eliminate the issue with tire wear.

I'm with you - one of the 150 who purchased the 2023 Pursuit Elite. It has the wobble and I researched and found your video. Thanks. Problem I have had is the dealer is oblivious and told me that this is just something this model does! I asked them how they basically blamed design flaw and asked how they came to that conclusion. I was told they test rode their other Pursuits and compared!!! I called Polaris and they told me it was the tire and they were contacting the dealer to get them to change out the tire. I will give the dealership some hell AFTER they correct the problem. Fingers crossed this fixes the wobble for my bike. Otherwise, I love my Pursuit but can't understand why Indian hasn't issued something proactively especially given this is among the most expensive models they offer. I have owned a Victory CCT, Indian Roadmaster 2016 and now this Pursuit. My loyality is shaken not because this has happened but in the way it's being handled.

Recalls are for problems with actual mechanical, electrical or electronic components of the bike itself not tires. Indian/Polaris does not manufacture tires. Recalls are for issues like the high speed wobble brand new 2024 Harleys are having because of a flaw in the design of the bike or software issues with the ECM like new 2024 Harleys are having.

So I have a Harley CVO limited. Same problem whenever you got off the gas and it got down to between 40 and 30 mile an hour front end with shake. Took it back three times kept screwing up the front tires had to change tires every 4000 miles finally I switch dealership . They took the front end apart in the bearings are bad and it’s a Rushmore bike so you cannot grease the bearings in the triple trees. I took it to the right people. They took it apart and bearings I got new ones and I run the Dina beads in the front tires. It’s pretty solid, but I did upgrade my suspension to Legend’s front cartridges coil overs in the rear and the bikes never been as good as it is now. I thought with them for couple years the worst tires would wear, and I Road trips, long distance, heavy two up. At the time the bike was $45,000 so Harley does not buy them back. Certain dealerships do not want to fix them under warranty. You have to fight. I’ll finish watching your video now enjoy them but I just had to chime in on this.

I was gonna say tire!. anyways would be the starting point for troubleshooting. bearings etc yeah, but pressure/wear?. an u get a bad tire here n there made it thru final QA an shipped. Note: new tires need 100miles break in before u start leaning good on em. and shows u if u leave bikes sitting for long periods like cars u get a flat spot. if it wobbles at a certain speed- weights/bent. if it wobbles at low speed thats a flat spot it smoothes out the faster u go. they threw that tire away, u cant fix that. u can prevent it by several means.
theres no hits against Indian, they got it pretty quick. and now they'll know u did good to put this out. tires fellas! 1st thing on pre-flight check!.

Date code on tire will be 4 digits. WWYY - week and year the tire was manufactured.
    52 weeks in a year.
01-20 will be the beginning of the year.
22-30 will be the middle of the year.

my new 23 Pursuit doesnt seem to have this problem.. My 20 challenger i bought beginning of 21 did, at around 70 kph. Now, i have seen videos where owners had it happen very violently like you say, well on mine it was sort of mid range.. not aggressive but not lightly either.
Didnt really bother with it as my 20 had other issues as well, so i got rid of the bike asap, traded it in for my new pursuit and couldnt be happier.
One thing to ask, check your diagnostics sometimes. Mine and my clubmembers pursuit here in Belgium both have it from time to time: an "unknown" error will pop up.. my dealer doesnt know what it is yet and i have seen other owners on facebook groups reporting the same code

It's most likely the steering head bearing adjustment. Yes you can change the tire but later on if it returns make sure the head bearings are adjusted corrected. Most people don't know how to do this adjustment and without exception changing the tire fixes the problem at least for a while but it will return is most cases. MC front tires scuff a lot and usually wear uneven and its hard to see...

Typical of BMW, they told me that many have written about this but then did nothing about it. changed tires and no change. I also had a brand new R1200RT that cut out when shifting into 2nd gear intermittently. Again, they did nothing about it. No more BMWs for me... Great bike but the BMW company has poor support for big issues. Harley and Honda have been the only trouble free bikes I ever rode. After 32 motorcycles in my tenure, I went back to HD Ultra

OEM Tires are just like most parts on the bike....they're spec'd for the buyer (who buys them by the truck load)....many auto manufacturers will have XYZ Brand and Model tires...they may or may not be the same as the BRAND TIRE in construction or quality. i.e. I had a Toyota that a model designation MODIFIER after the standard BRAND name/Number. i.e. TIRE BRAND 101B.....and when I had the tires changed the tire shop asked if I wanted the same brand...I said "Hell no...these are terrible"...and it was one of his preferred brand and models he suggested....he showed me this. I worked in retail as a kid and down the line in all brands there are "models" that look the same but vary greatly in quality. Nike may have 4 shoes that look the same until you get down to the construction....Sewn and reinforced Tennis shoe vs. a Glued and flimsy shoe for fashion. i.e. Footlocker may sell the TENNIS VERSION for $100 and Kohls Sells the FASHION VERSION for $50.....it's the same with tires. The "Storage" could 100% also be an issue. If they were stacked and stored improperly it could have warped or deformed and never recovered, also plausible. I still think the likely answer is INDIAN Spec'd a tire to a PRICE and the Manufacturers met that price by cutting some corner.

Beautiful bikes but definitely scary. Lack of dealership's and service facilities, and Polaris are what's stopping me from riding Indian.

Glad it worked out for you without incident Robert. What tires do those Indian Pursuits have on them? Just curious..

I was very excited to change my harley rd glide for the indian, I think I'll let them review it better and wait for more review.

I made the same trade. I don't miss the Road Glide Special with the 114 motor. It was slow and the bike is top heavy. Harley Davidson service department rates are exorbitantly high.

Tire age, storage, and how they ship them? Installed on a high-end new bike? Seems suspicious. It sounds like Metzeler produced a batch of defective tires, maybe a lot of them, and they are hoping customers won't notice this wobble and need to replace tires under warrantee. If the dealer balanced them and they checked out ok then it seems to me that the rubber compounding itself was defective. Makes one wonder how many bad tires we are riding on, and how other performance could be affected beyond the wobble.

At least it was an easy fix and not a design problem. Thanks for the information.

Yes yes yes. Mine was fine until I change the front tire on it after the new tire was put on it start doing that 40 mile-an-hour shimmy took the tire off put another brand new tire on it and it corrected it. There's a problem with Metzeler cruisetec Tires. I put 50 miles on the tire Mesler wooden warranty the tire so beware that
