The big learning curve going into NRL22 has nothing to do with bullets and groups but how to quickly get into a solid shooting position on the various barricades. Also the use of bags, bipods, etc. And how to transition back and forth between targets at different distances. And.....how the wind impacts a 40 grain bullet. And getting 10 shots off in 2 minutes. It's way more challenging than you can ever imagine, and very fun. Enjoy!
If you own a Kestrel, I would recommend using the DSF function at 100, 150, 200, 300, and 350 yards. This would save you an immense amount of time and ammo, especially for NRL22 where most targets are very generous. No need to mess with BC, MV, etc with that method. I do this among several lots of ammo so I can switch between practice (SK Match and Eley Tenex) and match (Center-X) ammo. I shoot the local matches at DRRC, TCGC, etc. and have done very well with this method.
Looks like you are ready John good luck. It is great to see you shooting 22LR, hopefully you get good footage from the match to share with us. When you are done with the match I hope you find time to join on of my Dayattherange Challenges. Would love to see that rifle in the smallest group challenge to see how it really shoots.
I SHOOT ARA BENCH REST. I HAVE A TIER BIPOD. BUT WHAT HELP ME OUT ALOT WAS WITH THE SAME REAR BAG YOU USING GAME CHANGER. I TAPED UP THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG. MADE IT MUCH MORE SOLID. GOT MORE CONTROLL .
I would recommend setting your “zero stop” just under zero. If you have to reset your zero at a match, the “zero stop” is one less thing to fight with.
Get a schmedium game changer with heavy fill. They are super stable with the heavy fill and a great all around bag. I have a regular game changer and they are good but a schmedium with heavy fill is a game changer.
Yeah someone else asked that and yes it would. I did a poor job explaining what I was going to do but to prevent any possible problems I’m only going to shoot my match ammo during the 30 minute sighter period.
Nice John, did you use the bipod or the rest? I had good luck with the Lapua Center X. But every barrel seems to have what seems like only one that it likes. Thanks for sharing John.
Sounds like the guy you got the rifle from would be an excellent source of ammo information. Even if my rimfires liked a certain lot # they still preferred certain ammo, for example, If I found that gilt edge accuracy was with a certain lot of Eley benchrest Gold (just dated myself) any box of Eley BR Gold I had still shot very well. If I found a cheap alternative, which I always did, the same held true. I could use a certain lot of cheaper RWS Target for $30/brick or Eley Rifle Target or Eley Club for fun (just dated myself again) and any lot was OK, just some were better. The previous owner must have tested a bunch of different ammo, perhaps he could help you narrow it down a bit. I once calculated how much I spent on rimfire ammo in an average year, be careful you can make thousands of dollars seemingly disappear 😁
@@davecollins6113 Crazy, isn't it? It's more than crazy, it's kind of ridiculous. Here in the US a co-worker had a Federal Firearm License so most non high end match ammo was cheap, as was hunting ammo from RWS, Lapua, Eley, CCI etc.... mostly under $35/500. My favorite ammo was $95/500. I bought so much different stuff to test it just got out of hand. A new rifle, rings, bases and a Leupold 6.5-20x was a minor outlay compared to the ammo. Man I loved going to the range early with flags to beat the wind picking up around 11AM and testing different ammo in different rimfires. I finally realized that eventually I enjoyed it more than the matches.
Instead of using a add on thread adapter for the ec tuner can you thread the barrel in center fire thread dimensions. I’m getting a rimx action and barrel and mpa chassis from dp precision. I want to know what to ask him to thread barrel without using thread adapter. You said you were going to get the cz threaded
That's actually a great idea. Thank you. I still need the adapter for my B14R that is coming but for the CZ that's a great idea and I will totally do that.
John I see on your Ballistic app you have the barrel twist in at 1 in 14, have you an aftermarket barrel fitted or is it the original CZ barrel, if so is the CZ barrel not 1 in 16 ?
I’m sure this is a basic question but how high up did you put the dot when doing your testing? What that to simulate 100 yards or did you move the target out to 100?
I recrimp to the heaviest crimp with the cutting edge 22lr die and sort by rim thickness on Norma tac 22 and it drops the sd down to the 9-12 FPS range
Do not shoot anything other than the ammo you are using during sighters. Different brands use different types of wax or lube on the bullets. If you switch between brands it takes several shots to refoul the barrel for that ammo.
@@FClassJohn I just caught in the video you said you were going to bring the extra ammo and maybe mess with it during sighers. I was just saying don’t do that, play with the other ammo after the match.
Why use this app to try and improve, but not use chronograph. Your information is useless and you're wasting your time. Some people like gadgetry I guess. Looking at your groups, it's not the wind.
f-class John I saw this youtuber Isyour6covered shot 22lr & other stuff i might be able to do that (its cheaper) so i saw a 200 dollar bolt action rifle no way it used for that for sure?? setting at a local shop to me it was new i got a 6.8 western there and a 6 creed-more earlier there, i got a 3-9 mill-dot scope & my 308 win howa 1500 out of the gun case & my savage axis 223 all 22lr and 223 & 308 win i all ready have 22lr is adapter for ar 15 or semi autos & one in a m1 look like rifle & older marlin 22lr my brother 2 boys of his second run at family life! in 2006 they had a baby girl too! Works great!

Thanks for the video and information. All of the F- class going 22 LR . Saw Eric with one and that he’s got a tuner for 22 LR .

Thank you. I actually have it set about a minute under. I’m used to doing this for my f class guns as well.

Would using different ammo (manufacturer) for sighter not mess with the lube coating in the barrel (the fowling) and destroy your zero in a match?

For testing I used my bag rider on my T-Rex rest but then I practiced on bipod and bags.

Lat nite I spent 250.00 Cdn on 1500rds of 22 ammo, used to get 10,000 for that. And that`s cheap stuff I can plink with or use for gophers in the STG.

Yeah I totally understand and feel the same way. I'm getting the 457MTR threaded soon and then I can start testing the Cortina Tuner on it.
If you get a game changer get the shmedium waxed
Or a brick of any good ammo with out having to send gun out for ammo lot testing

Aim small miss small.. lol
