It's not all that bad actually. The deer infected aren't usually more aggressive, it causes brain damage and weight loss, not aggressiveness. That could very well become a side effect from brain damage in areas responsible for logical thinking and decision making, but isn't an intended effect of the infection. If anything those infected would be easier to kill too. It is widespread and a big problem but the symptoms aren't as bad as people make it out to be. Always fatal, yes. A reason to hide from them? No. Could infect humans someday as it can infect apes and their DNA is quite similar to ours, so that is a worry. But it won't cause a zombie pandemic though. Doesn't cause mind control or obedience behaviours. Just destroys the brain, nerves and etc. Could cause mass death and disease but it won't cause zombies.
