I think the beauty of the first pumpkin cake is that it's still spooky without being gory. Which is especially useful if you're having a party for adults AND kids.
Yes! And also, I love that all of it is actually edible. I mean, I know fondant and rice-made structures are technically edible, but they are so gross lol. I feel weird when a LOT of the cake goes to the bin for the sake of ''decoration''
I actually prefer the silver cakeboard they went with for the last cake, simply for contrast reasons. The whole cake is already so dark that a black cakeboard probably would have been a bit much, and the silver is a great base that makes the black skulls on the bottom stand out way more than they would on a board in the same colour. So I personally think they made a good choice with that and with keeping it simple and plain because the actual cake is already so amazingly detailed. :)
I think Kevin is really the person who wins these…I would be so terrified to drive home with these 😂 props to you Kevin! Edit: OMG thanks for so many likes! And replying! Love your channel!
@@TheIcingArtist WOW! First of all…YOU REPLIED?!?!?! And second of all, I live outside of my city so it’s like a 20 minute drive to everything. AHHH I STILL CANT BELIEVE YOU REPLIED!!!!
I know you don't want to ruin the artistry of the cakes, but I would love to see what parts of the cakes are edible and how they're structured. I was hoping you'd take a chomp of spider leg, or slice into the axe handle. And how much of the skeleton one was made out of cake? The face, the scythe, the top of the throne? How did they get it all to stand up? I already adore this series, but seeing you review and explain the more technical sides would make it even more fascinating!
I agree! I love knowing the Spider-pumpkin was completely edible The mash up cake looked like it could have had a high percentage of edible parts as well. I am very curious about the edibility of Death on his throne. Any chance you could do an update?
Propably only the base of the seat is cake. I would guess the skulls are made of chocolate, not the one to eat, but the one you use to mold sculptures. So, technically edible, but very hard to actually eat. With the scythe I would also be interested what it's made of. I don't think it can be made of a lot of heavy material, otherwise it would've fallen or broken. Propably a wooden or plastic staff with cardboard at the end and fondant over it for the decoration.
@@FreyasArts That's pretty much what I was thinking too. The scythe head could be rice crispy treats under the fondant. I think it'd be light enough to stay aloft. I'll admit that while I'm impressed with the artistry of Death... it's a bit disappointing to think that it's most likely just a square layer cake... 🤷
When I heard that the first cake had icing instead of fondant I felt so relieved😅 I can't stand the taste and texture of fondant. It's a shame it's so over-used in "artistic" cakes just because it's relatively easy to use. Cakes are supposed to be eaten and enjoyed, not just looked at, so putting in a bit more effort with icing or chocolate can really make it great. (just my opinion here, I think it's great if someone else loves fondant)
Yeah I think it is ok when people use fondant for very detailed cakes that are for big events and photos but for regular old birthday cake I want to eat it not take pictures. I as well prefer icing or buttercream.
I agree if it’s a big event like a wedding or a big party for many people the cake needs to look good but like a small birthday party no need if that much stuff
If you pay for that extra effort and time to use something other than fondant to do artistic and detailed cakes, then they'd probably do it. It's easy to critique as someone who doesn't actually make cakes. Budget is a thing.
Sees first one omg that's so cool The second cake comes out no this one is the best like the detail Third cake reviled absolutely smashing all my expectations
The best detail for me was on the ax cake. The foot and the hand had the actual jagged bone attached. I've never seen that done. If I'm paying attention to detail, that's my winner. But all 3 cakes were epic in their own way.
My fav was the third cake cause more than detail they had detail and the construction would have been so hard like making cake into a hand and stuff plus the skeleton face was so detailed so that’s my winter but all three are amazing
Whoever is the head baker/head decorator(s) of the Grim Reaper cake has mad skills! This person or the team of people who does these cakes are awesome!
the one thing i dont like about these artsy cakes is that i am always wondering "how much of all of this is actually cake? how much is actually delicious to eat? and how much is just decoration?" because to me if its cake i want to eat or serve it to my guests, and if 90% of it is not really something for ust to enjoy eating i feel like its not really worth it. But they are awesome and very well done. i liked the spider-pumpkin the most ♥
I agree! I kinda hate when a cake is advertized as completely edible but then 65% of it is just fondant and rice crispie.. especially as a person who can't stand fondant 😂 like yeah, you CAN eat it, but how good is it and is it what you expect when you hear "cake"?
I think if you're spending $500 on a cake you can probably specify how many people you're trying to feed with it and they'll take it into consideration. I'm guessing for these they just wanted them to go wild with decoration.
@@whatzittooya3873 I’m usually okay with a bit of fondant, but one time I got a cake that was *just* cake and fondant. It tasted and felt like cardboard

The 3rd one was definitely the most epic, absolutely amazing. The details and little touchs were incredible. The 1st was was really cool and very impressive. The 2nd was cool as well the axe and the face was very impressive, but I thought it was it messy, it was to many ideas competing and fighting against each other but still very cool.
I’d say this is the best across the board challenge so far. They’re all amazing, but the first one is probably my favorite due to the use of icing over fondant and the fact that everything, including the spider legs, was edible.
The grim reaper cake is freaking amazing! If I was a professional baker I would probably charge more than $500 for that. They were all super cool though. P.S. Kevin was closer with guessing scepter… sorry lol

I think this might be the best video in this series so far. Amazing cakes and so diverse. Even though the pumpkin spider is smallest, I liked it the most. Sort of Harry Potter vibes.
I adore all 3. The first one is simple but still the right level of creepy, the second one has so many elements that they managed to gel together fantastically, and the third one looks just like an elaborate decoration that you'd see in the coolest haunted house
I was blown away by the artistry of all three! But for me, number one is the choice simply because I could cut it without guilt. The other two, especially the second, I wouldn’t know how to begin. Also, what do you do with that giant ax? Finally, I am not a huge fan of eating fondant.

when you’re doing these you should ask them to make it a specific flavor cause it’s harder to judge the taste of 3 different flavored cakes, especially when one is a flavor you dislike
I think all three of those cakes are beyond BEYOND amazing! Do these bakeries know you critique their cakes? I'm just blown away by all three of them. I love all of the bakery-comparison vids. I want to come to your house and eat all of those cakes with you!
Hard to choose. I would love the chocolate legs of the first cake and the fact that there isn't so much fondant. Cake #3 the Grim Reaper is amazing for it's virtuosity. I wonder how much of it is actually edible. So cake #2 is my favorite. I usually wouldn't go for a cake with so many different details and themes but there is a Halloween song "The Monster Mash" and this cake embodies that completely.
I seriously love that bakery from the last cake. I love the other ones they've done too, they are really skilled. I can only imagine what they'd do with an even higher budget.
Epic is definitely the word for those cakes! I think worth the $500, so much detail and work. Those bakers are true artist and I would not be disappointed in any of them. The last one was my favorite though. Also, I wonder if the bakeries are getting wise to you and stepping up their game, knowing they will be on youtube. I know you don't say their names, but maybe they know anyway.
Love your videos, but loved this video even more. So awesome of you to bring your Editor on screen! Editors are truly unsung heroes. From one Editor to another, thank you!!
I love these types of vids especially the Halloween ones last years were amazing can’t wait to see these ones I would love to see you make a scary 3D one lol Xx
5:14 Collective Action/Teamwork on this cake was spot on from the same bakery that did the sunday cake and the christmas cake. Just people pitching and throwinv ideas around the cake never fails to suprise.
My favorite is the second cake: I love the is mish-mash theme that somehow pulls together perfectly. The first cake is what I would want for a classy Halloween party/cake. But I still don’t understand how they got the chair back so dang tall on the third cake!?! (And for it to survive transport!)
I've been off grid basically since late Sept. First thing I did back online was check the 2021 Halloween cakes. Your bakers did not disappoint!! Thank you for your comparison videos; they're as epic as Halloween cake #3!
You should give money to 3 bakeries to do a Squid Games thence cake. It would be so interesting to see what they come up with. Like to give this idea a vote 😀
These might be the most epic amazing 'give bakeries money and see what they do' cakes ever! I had to go re-watch last year's Halloween video for comparison, those were great but these are all just next-level awesome. I love how each cake was progressively more extreme/breathtaking/surprising, it made the video so much fun to watch!
I wanted to see her eat the part of the spider pumpkin leg that fell off. Those cakes are absolutely amazingly incredible. I loved them all. What does she do with all that cake? Time to have a Halloween party!!!
Oh my gosh!!! The lady who did the death cake, she needs to charge more, she is undercharging for her work. That cake is amazing!! The details with the skulls and the chair, never mind the size!! WOW! The spider pumpkin is super cute and I love the pumpkin brain one as well
I absolutely LOVE these videos! It would be so fun if you asked these bakeries to record some of their behind the scenes work and you include it in the main video. I would love to hear about their creative process in making these masterpieces, especially since they have free range within the theme. If you want to keep them anonymous, you could always blur out their faces and change their voices. I’m also curious how many different bakeries do you choose from when you do these challenges? Especially since there are some repeats. I don’t mind the repeats, since those are the best ones!
i would love to have a party with that skeleton cake. have sit in the middle of the table like it's a decoration and then surprise everyone by cutting into it.
13:46 when they're all next to each other the picture almost looks photoshopped like, it can't be real! Plus the cake on the left looks drained of colors, just black and white sculpture, which is insanely cool. They're all so cool!
I need the crawly friend in my life. Just love it All the cakes looked really cool though. I'd be happy with any of them. But happiest with the crawley haha
Yes!!! They all look great, but the one I would actually want to eat and have at my party is the spider-pumpkin ❤️ It looks so cute and delicious, and I love that everything is edible. The others are more complicated and complex, but that skeleton does not entice me to take a bite xD
They are all so phenomenal, but I love the first one. The lighting and gradience on the pumpkin is so damn realistic. Even the stem of the pumpkin is so textured.
I thin that is the SICKLE of “The Death” and is made out of a crow’ skull… (Great creative idea!!!) Everyone knows The Death has a sickle!!! It is no coincidence that he/it is also called “The Reaper”…!!! He reaps souls!!! At the end I still think the same as the editor, the two ensemble can definitely have the point, it’s a tie!!! 🖤
@@SpookiestAlice I think one is the big one and the other one is the little one… I’m Italian (And I studied English not American English) so we call them in the same way or we call the little one in a diminutive way… …But for the tradition The Reaper of Sorrow so The Death has a sickle, so yeah you can reap also with a scythe and technically the imaginary nowadays want the representation (To be more scary) of Death with a big sickle (So it would be a scythe), but at the end The Death has a sickle. EDIT: Yes like the one of the Communism… EDIT II: To clarify, The Death has to reap human so he simply had a longer stick to a sickle blade… But is not a scythe… In fact the real blade of The Death is thinner and very curved not like the scythe… But now this concept is gone… The idea that bakery had is more realistic coz a beak is more curved… But not every crow have a very curved beak… Definitely not the one they chose!!!
@@xDarkTrinityx That’s a creative idea so it’s great like this and I like it so much, but yeah I think maybe a raven’s beak is more curved… But this is not a problem… That cake is cool like it is…!!! can't believe its been 1 year allready, time goes by fast when your in the city with the longest lockdown. love watching the videos makes this lockdown easier :) thank you :D
The Grim Reaper cake was phenomenal decorating. I loved the silver cake board, because it seemed to highlight the dark cake. Good choice.!! As for the other cakes, they looked great, but it seemed they took the easy way out and kept it just a simple pumpkin cake, with a little add ons. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it took time to texture and design, but they both seemed just a little too simple for a $500 cake !! Grim Reaper wins, hands down for me !! Excellent looking cake and well executed !!
The skeleton dude & the pumpkin with 5 red eyes were amazing. The pumpkin with the axe in the head looks kind of sloppy to me. These are my favorite videos of yours, so fun.
I’m getting a custom zombie themed cake for my sixteenth (this Thursday) I can’t wait to see what the guy has made, he’s made us a few custom cakes before and they look and taste incredible, for my thirteenth he made me a crime scene cake and it was awesome it even had a tiny bloody knife on it
I think the bakeries now know to do their best when it comes to your orders. I would have loved to know how the back of the third cake was structured. You opened them in order of rank. 1- 85%, 2-95% and 3-98%. All have done a beautiful job.

Those are so AMAZING!!!! I LOVED the last one. I can not believe that's a cake! I also just thought the spider pumpkin was so cute and clever.
when you’re doing these you should ask them to make it a specific flavor cause it’s harder to judge the taste of 3 different flavored cakes, especially when one is a flavor you dislike
Like wow! They have become more epic each time. Love seeing these bakers different concepts.
Oh man didn’t know you were doing another one of these! This kind of video is my favorite!!
I LOVE the third cake, wow! The 1st and 3rd cake are the best, the second one to me was kind of overwhelming
The bakery who did the second cake is SO talented when it comes to detail
They are all soo good! I would say the 1st one was creepy in a good way, the second one was so detailed, and the third was a show stopper!
Love the Reaper cake. That wicked
Totally love the Halloween theme cakes. They are always so creative
This is the first video where I feel like all the cakes could have been worth $500 or more. The Grim Reaper cake is definitely my favorite
Kudos that is probably the best-integrated ad/product placement I have seen in a video ever.
Am I the only one who would love to see a “cutesy” Halloween cake? Anyone else not a horror fan?🤣
These are amazing regardless though!😍
That first cake is my perfect level of spoopy! It’s fun, it’s halloweeny, and the level of detail is beautifully realistic!
I was thinking that too, about the bakeries catching on. I'd work extra hard knowing I'd be online, even anonymously.
yup i'm pretty sure they know, I've noticed the bakeries/artists post about these videos
Love your videos, but loved this video even more. So awesome of you to bring your Editor on screen! Editors are truly unsung heroes. From one Editor to another, thank you!!
That's way too much work for only $500 that's an amazing deal
The skull man!!!
Like........I am also speachless laurie!!
Creativity on another level!!!
👌👌👌👌👌
All three of these are perfection. Wow 💕🎃
Sometime you should have Kevin try to design and decorate a cake just to see how much he’s learned from you over the years!!
I’d love to see that!! I can just hear Laurie laughing and them going back and forth about the funniest things lol.
This is a fantastic idea
Wow all 3 cakes looked incredible! Those bakeries went above and beyond😍😍
The 2nd and third one i feel like i would never eat and just put it in my room as a decoration 🤯🤯
Cake #2 wins hands down! The most creative design and you obviously loved that cake the most!
I would love to have the 3rd cake in my hallway, just staring at people. It would avoid people, and I would enjoy a delicious spice carrot cake!!!
That second cake! Worth every penny. Someone worked hard and put their heart into it. Respect.
The Reaper was amazing... though I wouldn't have been able to cut it forever 💐
I wanted to see her eat the part of the spider pumpkin leg that fell off. Those cakes are absolutely amazingly incredible. I loved them all. What does she do with all that cake? Time to have a Halloween party!!!
I love, love LOVE the third cake! It's AWESOME! Happy Halloween!!!
I’m a huge fan of this WOMEN. SHES A ROLE MODEL TO ME, Some one I always look up to
Yeah I'am a huge fan too of this girl
@ᴛᴀᴘ ᴍᴇ ᴀɴᴅ sᴇᴇ Evelyn wtf
The grim reeper cake was $500 well spent! Favorite cake out of all the 3. This artist is nothing short of amazing.
The 2nd and 3rd cake just blew me away! 💕 Can you do a Disney Princess theme wedding cake?
Oh my gosh!!! The lady who did the death cake, she needs to charge more, she is undercharging for her work. That cake is amazing!! The details with the skulls and the chair, never mind the size!! WOW!
The spider pumpkin is super cute and I love the pumpkin brain one as well
so excited for this one!
edit: those three cakes were so amazing! Halloween seems to bring out people's imagination :)
Just love it
All the cakes looked really cool though. I'd be happy with any of them. But happiest with the crawley haha
Yes! Me, too! Someone needs to make it into a plushie
I thin that is the SICKLE of “The Death” and is made out of a crow’ skull… (Great creative idea!!!)
Everyone knows The Death has a sickle!!!
It is no coincidence that he/it is also called “The Reaper”…!!! He reaps souls!!!
At the end I still think the same as the editor, the two ensemble can definitely have the point, it’s a tie!!! 🖤
Yes A SICKLE of Death!!!!
since when was it a sickle (you also reap with a scythe)
@@SpookiestAlice I think one is the big one and the other one is the little one… I’m Italian (And I studied English not American English) so we call them in the same way or we call the little one in a diminutive way…
…But for the tradition The Reaper of Sorrow so The Death has a sickle, so yeah you can reap also with a scythe and technically the imaginary nowadays want the representation (To be more scary) of Death with a big sickle (So it would be a scythe), but at the end The Death has a sickle.
EDIT: Yes like the one of the Communism…
EDIT II: To clarify, The Death has to reap human so he simply had a longer stick to a sickle blade…
But is not a scythe… In fact the real blade of The Death is thinner and very curved not like the scythe… But now this concept is gone… The idea that bakery had is more realistic coz a beak is more curved… But not every crow have a very curved beak… Definitely not the one they chose!!!
@@redeteeteder Could've been a raven? their beaks have a bit of a curve, compared to crows anyways.
@@xDarkTrinityx That’s a creative idea so it’s great like this and I like it so much, but yeah I think maybe a raven’s beak is more curved… But this is not a problem…
That cake is cool like it is…!!!
I'm the one who rambled, talking about history, assumptions and lexicon, but at the end in this place we talk about cakes!!!
can't believe its been 1 year allready, time goes by fast when your in the city with the longest lockdown. love watching the videos makes this lockdown easier :) thank you :D
I’m getting a custom zombie themed cake for my sixteenth (this Thursday) I can’t wait to see what the guy has made, he’s made us a few custom cakes before and they look and taste incredible, for my thirteenth he made me a crime scene cake and it was awesome it even had a tiny bloody knife on it
I wish you tried more of the cake. I want to know what the spider legs tasted like, the zombie hands, the chair. All the elements
I think the bakeries now know to do their best when it comes to your orders. I would have loved to know how the back of the third cake was structured. You opened them in order of rank. 1- 85%, 2-95% and 3-98%. All have done a beautiful job.
My fav was pumpkin spider!!!
Though, I wish the eyes were jello, that would have been creepy cool!!!
