    I just started the flute and I have a question...
    What excercises can I do to make one stream of air and not have my flute sound all squeaky?

    So what do you recommend if the ensemble you play with tunes to A=440 and your flute is in A=442? I usually tune by playing an A-harmonic and adjust my headjoint to match my middle A, and I'm right in tune at A=442. But when I tune down to 440, my flute gets a little pitchy. Is it best to get a flute that's tuned to 440?

    Last night I by accidently made a circular scratch with my tuning rod on the cork plate when I was using cleaning gauze to swab out the head joint. I checked the tuning with the rod and it didn't move but is this common to happen and will it affect the sound of my instrument? I read on a website that the stem and the plate can be replaced if it gets too banged up. I'm trying real hard to keep things in working order though.

    Why my cork is not moving? It is too low and the line is not in the middle maybe I am not pushing hard enough?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +nestor ismael Ok this is a little hard to explain. If the line is too low then you need to twist the cap as if you are tightening it and that will raise the cork up. It also depends on the age and condition of your flute. You can always take it to a good technician and they can fix your cork in a jiffy. Good luck! :) Rebecca

    i have a question, some flutes come with those fluffy dry sticks that you put inside the main body after playing and drying your flute,..... anyhow back to the point, can i tune with one of those? because my flute did not come with a tuning rod....

      @LearnFluteOnline  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, great question here. Those fluffy cleaners you run inside your flute don’t have tuning capability, you’re right. You can get a tuning rod easily at any instrument store of even on amazon. Thanks for asking I hope you find one soon. :) Rebecca

    I have a tuning rod from a recorder could this be used for my flute? Thanks in anticipation.

      +sue rockett Hi Sue, great question here - the answer is No, you cannot use the tuning rod from a recorder to measure the position of your cork. You'll need one that is made specifically for the flute. ~Rebecca

      Ok. Thanks very much for the answer. At the moment I use the recorder rod with soft cloth for cleaning my flute - hope thats ok! Looks like I will be going online to purchase a flute rod...

    Hi Rebecca, I have been playing for a while, but it seems that it is hard to keep in tune when switching notes. I especially notice that C and C# tend to be sharp, but high Eb tends to be flat. Other notes are like this, but not near as extreme. I know I need to adjust my omnature, but it seems almost kind of ridiculous how much I need to change it. Just playing in tune seems to be pretty hard... I don't know if is my flute or me, but it makes playing less enjoyable. Please respond! Thanks! :)

    Great Questions, guys!
    echobackstudios: tune to whoever you are playing with. So, if your group is playing at 442 (strange), then tune to that. Grant Schulte: you're right, it is hard to be in tune on certain notes - there are tricks and things you do for certain notes... too much to explain in a youtube reply. Come join the LearnFluteOnline lessons and you'll get all the answers you need.

    not to be mean but the way your talking on this makes me feel like I'm talking to my step mom when she's talking down to me in a condescending voice. but you did answer my question. my question was are tuning rods for flutes specific to the make and model. Ty so much

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tony Coopersmith Ah I understand. When I made these first videos I wasn't sure who (and how old) I was talking to. I have over 800 flute learning videos now, and I don't talk like that any more. To answer your question, no the tuning rods are measured all the same so you can use any of them to measure your head joint cork placement. Great question! ~Rebecca

    what about if the top of the flute dosnt go up with a plastic rod

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't really want the cork to move at all. It should already be in the right place. I hope this is what you are asking. Let me know if you want to clarify. I have hundreds and hundreds of video tutorials for flute playing on my website. Come join us! learnfluteonline.com ~Rebecca

    Is this the same on a piccolo?

    • @LearnFluteOnline
      @LearnFluteOnline  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the information in this video is the same for the piccolo. Keep in mind though that the rest of the videos on my channel are made specifically for the flute, so not everything will be the same. You will find that most flute techniques are very similar and will help you develop the basics like tone, fingerings, and music reading. Good luck! ~Rebecca
