This is the final episode of Series 2: Cape Town. 8 Big Air kites. All 9m. All blank. Unbiased testing by three of the biggest names in big air.

Great video but concerned it will kill some kite brands/kites. Leaving us with less choices in the end. Perhaps kites can be ranked via tier instead. S tier, A, B, C, don't bother. Just a thought.

in my opinion, the characteristics of the kite could be better described. YZoon described the feelings on the kite very nicely. What I would add is that everyone should have a five-point scoring for each kite (height, feel of the bar, agility, feedback, ease of use).
Agreed ! This test is absolutely amazing, but I think we should hear the pros a lot more on what each kite will good at, bad at, how does it feel, etc. In the end, their opinion and deep knowledge is what we are here for, so forcing them to give ratings, or at least opinion on each criterion would be very interesting

@@colincolincarroll extend this test with now also OR Rise from season 1, pull now top 5-10 big air kites in and maybe 5 riders with score list from 1-10 in 5 different categorias. Maybe average Joe looking just kite for big air and maybe 1 loop at the top, or lower jump but massive loop. 4:12 Kites 1, 5 and 7 were selected. That's the North Orbit, Airush Lift and Core Nexus. 10:12 they declare the Core Nexus third and at 10:35 they declare kite 1 (North Orbit) as the best, leaving the Airush Lift in second.

Just want to say a big thank you to Colin and the whole team for setting up this very involved test. Cannot have been easy to negotiate with all the different brands, pursuade three big names to give up their time, and organise the foot soulders to all come together to make this work. Awesome job folks!!! Can’t wait to see the next series.😊
I think it would be cool to pair "Regular Joes" with each of the pro riders. That way you can get feedback from both. When you have 8 kites and 3 testers, the kites spend most of the time on the beach, not in the air. Make use of that down-time by handing the kite to a typical rider.
I like Greg's suggestion of doing rider-focused videos.
You could make this a multi-video series.
Kite focused = 8 vids
Rider focused = 3 vids (or 6 if you added Joes)
Process focused = 3 vids
I love the idea of a intermediate and advanced riders view too, I nearly mentioned it. Also, some random different kite spots. Ultimately, what I want is more of this type of content :)
These videos and the analysis is great from these 3 guys. Awesome job of putting this together Colin. What I would like to see is a kite comparison for the brands that dont have the marketing spend of the big players. Bravo for including Harlem, but next time if you havent done already ask the likes of Vantage kites, Switch Kites, GA Kites, Takoon Kites etc. These kites are affordable for the masses who the video is aimed at. Not everyone can afford upward of EURO 1,500 for a 9m kite without even the bar. Prices like this exclude the newbies from possibly getting into the sport. The average once a week kiter is generally happy boosting 10+ metres and throwing a loop here and there. They will be happy on any new kite most likely. Also get the Pro women to test them 👍
why dont you tryed the core xr 7 instead of the core nexus?
This was great as always. What would also have been great is if each episode was fully dedicated to one rider, their choices and reasons. It would allow more time to focus on the rider and their background and allow for a less definitive outcome but with more information, as they would never be able to all pick the same kite.

Ruben, Marc and Giel are the god squat. Aaron, Janek, Jamie, Luca, Kevin, Jessie and many others would all fit in there.
-Kites
Rebel and dice sls or Dlab, Ocean rodeo Rise, core xr, naish pivot and phoenix, new cabrinha and all the kites from this year or in short all the big brands. Others like Reedin or Harlem are all welcome, the more the better. And brands should provide 3 sizes
-Bars
I think you should select one bar with high and low V option and put them all on the same bar. 24 or 22 meter high quality lines, trimmed to spec.
-Categories
pro big air, highend loops 30+ knots
big air progression, 22-30 knots
low end progression, 12-22 knots
Highest jumper
-How to test
Step 1, out of the box
Step 2, tuning settings
Step 3, 1 vs 1 match up. xr vs edge, rebel vs orbit, dice vs reedin. Any way you want to do it 50% goes out
Step 4, the podium
Step 5, the winner and best sold kite of 2024
Optional, let members of the team or people on the beach try them all. After all the tests are done off course

Really good series. I hope the brands are paying you a ton of money for this public service you are providing. Even the ones that make shit kites.
That being said, massive props to the brands that didn’t make it into the final three - it’s still great that they took the risk to offer their kites up for public critiquing. I’m sure there’s many brands who haven’t or are too scared too.

A good test as always and the vibe from the pros is great! It is nice to have more opinions on the kites compared to the first series with the freeride kites. However, i do believe you need to be more strict with the categories to improve the series. Like the freeride series had the Rise from OR, which is their big air kite. And this series is a mix of allround and big air kites, which will give different results even though you test for the average rider. I understand that it might not be possible to get every model from the brands, but then maybe a different scoring system that takes into account what the kite is made for.
All in all super satisfied! :D
3 strut 9m unhooked / loopy kite tested in different conditions (like a dice, fx2, gts, pulse, ...). Would be nice to see Tom, but also someone like Camdyn in the tests to get two different perspectives on a kite that should do both.

Great, very blunt assessments by the riders and Giel's summary of the Orbit #1 verdict was very clear. Surprised by some of the brands who elected not to participate but that's possibly down to the previous series (which I found to be a snoring bore). Good drone work by Janek.

Great series! I suggest putting Lacuna kites in the next test - its a great local brand. It's just fair given that the test is making use of the Cape Town winds! Get some Cape Town kites!
Lacuna will be there in the future for sure. With everything going on with the brand this summer we didn't have a suitable kite ready for this test.
i'd love to see speed/racing kites tested but i think ultimately any kite discipline will be good because the concept is so good

Aaron Hadlow, Carlos Mario, Tom bridge, Bruna Kajiya, Ewan Jaspan, Alberto Rondina, Adeuri Corniel, Mikaili Sol for the Freestyle hands down going to be action.
Other possible options could be; Best kite for strapless & wave, got some really great legends there. Jesse Richman, Airton Cozzolino, Match Lopez, Mitu Monteiro etc.
A thought of testing foil kites in light wind popped in my noggin, pff light wind, let's be honest watching people only ride from left to right on a foil would make things mundane, stale, stodgy & humdrum. So freestyle and wave it is.
why no XR7???
One about kites for foiling (LEI) like UFO or contra, or OS could be suuuper! Specially in super light wind

These days there's probably not that much interest but freestyle and crossovers would be nice to see. Like an average Joe freestyle/crossover kite test.
Great series. 1 major flaw. North unfortunately should be left out of the comparison to keep it unbiased.I have nothing against North, but, it's too obvious what's going on...
I don't believe it's biased, because for many reasons it's obviously not. If you think North did rig this contest then consider what came in second as the winner. I assume that Airush isn't your kite brand either so you think that's wrong too. Well then, make your own kite test, with blackjack and hookers.

Ruben rides Ozone and I ride OR… I have no connection to north and neither does Ruben. But for this test the orbit won by a mile. It’s too bad it didn’t have amount worthy opponents. Would have love to seen Cabrinha join with their new Nitro or Duotone with a Rebel. Even Ocean Rodeo would have been great but if you’re looking for a consumer friendly big air kite it wasn’t even close. The whole reason there were 3 riders from different brands is to take out the biased part…

Real competitors are missing and against no big air kites, never seen brands and extreme kites like Edge is easy…
1) The concept is that we ask the pros, who are able to speak freely due to the blankness, what they think. If you can come up with a better way of doing this, let us know. But as it stands, this is the pinnacle.
2) We asked the 'real competitors' to partake.
@@colincolincarroll concept is well done and fun to watch. But is sad to see that if there will be a wave competition, Carve will be the winner without any doubt.
Riders of course are not free, kites are easy to identify, but that’s ok, I don’t think mark would ever go against North, and Ruben’s Edge can’t be a winner due to it’s extreme yank.
Nexus, Evo and Code could have had more potential than Reach in the previous competition.
In this one rebel is missing, Cabrinha Nitro too (that is just an upgraded Orbit).
I think that both competitions are correctly won by north looking at other kites, but with the right match of kites it could have been more interesting and not so North dominated
That’s too easy man… these guys put so much effort into making it fair but if the big names don’t want to play ball you just throw it all on Colin and Adrian…. That’s too easy man come on😢
I think duotone are jus afraid, because they are currently number 1 in the marked but the prices are extremely high. Much respect for other brands who agreed to participate in this project.
