Very insightful podcast. Now I understand on a more conscious level why I like to pair white with other colours (mainly black or green). Framing Orzhov as a patient colour pair is interesting. I also noticed that both black and white have a lot of spirits.
You said Red/White is a rough place for a Johnny player, so here are some combos to help your friend out. I don't play infinite combos in EDH, but you guys don't mind them so here are a few game-winning combos I know that can be played in the Boros colour identity. 1. 2 zero-mana Kobolds (either Kobolds of Kher Keep, Crimson Kobolds, or Crookshank Kobolds)+ Soul Warden+ Cloudstone Curio. Infinite life. To end the game, use Impact Tremors or similar. 2. Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Village Bell-Ringer. Wins the game with hasty tokens. 3. Zero mana cost creature (the aforementioned Kobolds work, so does Ornithopter, or Memninte) + Goblin Bombardment + Enduring Renewal. Infinite Damage. 4. Karmic Guide + Revillark + Goblin Bombardment. Infinite damage again, add creatures with 2 or less power for a verity of infinite resources. Teroh's Faithful is infinite life, Blade Splicer is infinite creatures, ect, ect. Phyrexian Altar can sub in for Goblin Bombardment for infinite mana, and Abbot of Keral Keep gives infinite cards. 5. This last combo is not infinite, but I thought it would interesting to mention anyway, becuase it would be an intrestring theme to build a deck around. Mill yourself with Keening Stone and/or Mesmeric Orb, then cast either Replenish or Open the Vaults. If you filled your deck with enchantments, this should win you the game if you play cards like Opalescence or Starfield of Nyx (your enchantments are creatures) and cards like Purphoros, God of the Forge, Pandemonium, Impact Tremors, and Warstorm Surge lets those triggers deal the damage needed to win the game. Or you can just play Fervor to attack and win that way. Or both. I hope these ideas spur your friend to build a Johnny Combo Player deck with Boros. I don't think it's as impossible as it sometimes seems.
White can also tutor for small creatures, ala Ranger of Eos, there are other similar cards that search or reanimate small creatures or look them up among the first 4 in your library and stuff. White can also search for Plains, not necessarily basic Plains which is very good.
+Andrew Moore I'm more of a black fan. I love the fact that everything is subject to being spent. Life, creatures, etc. All so i can become more powerful. Why do you like white? I run a black demonic deck usually against my friends angelic deck. I love the pairing and the decks are so even its incredible how well the two colors clash.
One great R/W Boros build to do in EDH is Tajic Voltron. Having a commander that has indestructible, relatively low mana cost, and is usually a 7/7 is excellent when it comes to edh. Grab a ton of swords, equip tutors like stonehewer, mana rocks, and enchantments or creatures that spit out a plethora of tiny creatures and you will be going to town with usually an unblockable indestructible hexproofed beatstick.
one lgs i used to play at had a rule against playing Armageddon. i had always just considered it part of the game. land destruction brings balance to the game, it keeps certain things in check.
Wraths are great and can be super powerful, but if you're constantly using them as a stall tactics, get ready to face the combined ire of the table. If you're looking for ways to combo in boros, look to Sun Titan with Gift of Immortality. With free sac outlets like Goblin Bombardment it can be an auto-win. Karmic Guide and Revillark to the same effect. The other thing you have plenty of in the colors is extra combat cards. Land tax with Waves of Aggression is sick. Concerning mana ramp, Aura of Silence and similar tax cards can slow the table down enough for you to catch up.

hey jimmy i remember hearing that you where looking for more interesting ways to play with red white in EDH. Well i had an idea of running Heartless Hidetsugu with white prevention spells/enchantments such as Personal Sanctuary and or Circle of protection: red. The key word is prevent all damage dealt to you.
Knight of the white orchard and endless horizons and gift of estates all provide ramp. honestly those and tithe and sol ring with thran all add up to pretty decent ramp. sword of animist is also a new option.
+torak690 Of those white cards you mentioned only Knight of the White Orchid is ramp. The rest put plains into your hands. That is not ramp. It does not get you ahead on the amount of mana you should have available to you on any given turn (like having 5 mana on turn 4, etc). It's possibly fixing, although they specifically give you plains so it's not good fixing.
have you guys tried a red white deck revolving around cards like coalhauler swine, boros reckoner, personal sanctuary, spitemare, gisela and blasphemous act? i reckon theres something there.

Land Tax isn't ramp? How? If you missed a land drop you can get 3 more! Guarenteed land drops for the next few turns, with green you can play an extra land Mono white; crucible of worlds, land tax and you shouldnt be missing land drops Have or tutor for Sword of the Animist, equip to a flyer and bam, land ramp
