Matthew was such a witty, charming, and likeable guy. So sad that he went through all the addiction problems and that we have now lost him. He was making such a difference with the book he wrote and helping others overcome addictions. RIP

Sadly lots of issues with addiction. It weighs on ones physical health along with mental health. Sadly he recently died. No cause of death YET being still "deferred" until toxicology report.
You can tell he's fully sober and happy here. RIP Matthew. You fought a horrific fight and no matter what your cause of death, you managed to stay clean for almost 2 years, which is not easy with the monster of addiction. We will always love you.

I just feel so sorry for him that he was not able to overcome this. The cause of his death are still unknown as of my writing, but surely it must have contributed to it health wise. Anyway, he brought joy and happiness to millions of people, and will continue to do so. Thought his life was short , his impact was huge. RIP Matthew Perry, you will be forever loved and remembered.
Toxicology results came back recently: Fentanyl was found in his system. He probably fell asleep and drowned in the tub is my guess. He was a funny guy. Best to remember him that way.

Now that I've read his book I'm amazed by Perry's acting on Friends while he was suffering so badly. Compulsively poisoning yourself is a horrible, horrible way to live and he still showed up.
i was always surprised that matt was the guy out of all the cast members to have an addiction issue. he always struck me as the most together one. addiction will surprise you.
This was one of the best talk show interviews. Matthew is a natural comedian. He made Dave and the audience laughed so much. And his goal of talking about his addiction issue to help others. He’s an angel and now is in heaven.

I felt safe, taken care of. Decades of struggling with God, and wrestling with life, and sadness, all was being washed away, like a river of pain gone into oblivion." Having recently dated an alcoholic for 2 yrs (and others in the past), and having an alcoholic roommate for 5 yrs, it's incredibly difficult to be on the other end of addiction. I'm a very caring, nurturing, understanding person... but addicts seem to view us as easy targets & punching bags for their self-loathing anger. It's a really tough spot to be in, especially when you love someone.

The Demon ‘addiction’ is hard to shake especially in a job where enablers are a constant, and some actors might buy into the overwhelming flattery and schmoozing of master manipulators. 20 years later, Matthew Perry’s continues his personal war now in 2022. He’s won some battles and lost some battles. He deserves to be commended for still fighting his addictions. I hope he wins the war.

Wow, he looks to clear and healthy compared to a few years ago….. but sadly he had 12-13 more rehabs to visit. Not a week after his death he was clean for over two years & wrote a best selling autobiography. He found peace after years of dealing with his past and anxiety. He was a talented actor but always second guessing himself.

I have a friend who is an alcoholic so I have been watching a lot of perry interviews to learn more about how it works and what to do. Sadly, I keep hearing from recovering alcoholics that the only thing you can do is wait for them to WANT to get help, if that ever happens.

Sometimes it never happens, my dad has been “struggling” with alcoholism for 30 years and never went to therapy nor rehab. And he has been earning really really well, so he could afford it.

During this interview Perry was battling addiction and it's so easy to masquerade your pain especially as an actor. at 5:50 you see that he is going through this horrible addiction still battling those demons and talk shows poke a this and I feel so sorry for him, obviously he was still doing bad
I just finished listening to his audiobook this morning; 2 days of 8 plus hours listening to his life: good bad ugly and the ultimate tragedy that led to his death😢😢 he had some funny and sarcastic moments too but mostly downhill starting at 14 years of age when he had wine for the first time while still living in Canada…
I really hate addiction and the death hold it has on a person. He suffered so much and inspite of this ----- He did so many wonderful things in his life. I really like him and miss him. ❤😢
If Mathew had been healthy and had control of his addiction, he might have have done better than Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell etc. Cos he was genuinely funny and not annoying like the other 2.
Despite what he says here, Perry has said his addiction was always close by, doing one armed pushups just waiting and hoping for another opportunity. He would revisit his demons dozens of times after this interview. He puts on a brave face but admits if you watched him in any interviews during the 90’s through 2018 , he was definitely still using, only able to complete brief periods of sobriety.
Interesting his comments about potentially not doing another season on Friends, which of course they did (season 10). Lisa must’ve won that cat fight with Jennifer.
He mentioned in his book, they all kind of wanted to end. But mostly it was Jennifer who wanted to leave as she wanted to do movies. Because they are all a team, they collectively decided to make season 10 their last season.
He did look good here and looked like he was winning the fight with his demons, which makes me think that his death was an accident and not intentional. Such a naturally funny guy and likable. RIP
I wish he had managed to stay clean. Now it's 2023 and I know he hasn't. 😞 It's so sad to hear him talking about himself having the best time of his life by being sober, if you already know, how the story will go on...
He never really got it, unfortunately. The addiction never goes away no matter how long side your last use and you need to take care of yourself and leave others to God. So many never get it

Most of us are poisoning ourselves be it alcohol or sugar (one of the great addictions) or junk food. A huge epidemic of obesity and diabetes etc. 🙏✌️

Not a week after his death he was clean for over two years & wrote a best selling autobiography. He found peace after years of dealing with his past and anxiety. He was a talented actor but always second guessing himself.

I have a friend who is an alcoholic so I have been watching a lot of perry interviews to learn more about how it works and what to do. Sadly, I keep hearing from recovering alcoholics that the only thing you can do is wait for them to WANT to get help, if that ever happens.

@ianfryer8386 sadly, the alcoholic friend I used to have ghosted me months ago. I hope she is okay. I was so sweet to her and tried to help but she didn't want to talk to me anymore.
Sometimes it never happens, my dad has been “struggling” with alcoholism for 30 years and never went to therapy nor rehab. And he has been earning really really well, so he could afford it.
@@MilkyWayGalaxyy Don't take it personally. Addiction/alcoholism is a monster and it changes you. Doesn't make you a bad person, but many addicts/alcoholics don't want to burden anyone with their pain, especially b/c very few people understand it unless they've lived it
There is a Matthew Perry in everyone's life. A person who is utterly drowning but they hide it so well. Stop. Look at the signs. Time is fleeting.

During this interview Perry was battling addiction and it's so easy to masquerade your pain especially as an actor. at 5:50 you see that he is going through this horrible addiction still battling those demons and talk shows poke a this and I feel so sorry for him, obviously he was still doing bad

I just finished listening to his audiobook this morning; 2 days of 8 plus hours listening to his life: good bad ugly and the ultimate tragedy that led to his death😢😢 he had some funny and sarcastic moments too but mostly downhill starting at 14 years of age when he had wine for the first time while still living in Canada…
I really hate addiction and the death hold it has on a person. He suffered so much and inspite of this -----

If Mathew had been healthy and had control of his addiction, he might have have done better than Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell etc. Cos he was genuinely funny and not annoying like the other 2.

Despite what he says here, Perry has said his addiction was always close by, doing one armed pushups just waiting and hoping for another opportunity. He would revisit his demons dozens of times after this interview. He puts on a brave face but admits if you watched him in any interviews during the 90’s through 2018 , he was definitely still using, only able to complete brief periods of sobriety.

He mentioned in his book, they all kind of wanted to end. But mostly it was Jennifer who wanted to leave as she wanted to do movies. Because they are all a team, they collectively decided to make season 10 their last season.
He did look good here and looked like he was winning the fight with his demons, which makes me think that his death was an accident and not intentional. Such a naturally funny guy and likable. RIP

He never really got it, unfortunately. The addiction never goes away no matter how long side your last use and you need to take care of yourself and leave others to God. So many never get it
