So sad to hear of his death. He always came off as such a sweet person, and I hope he’s remembered for the humor and laughter he shared with the world.
His comedic timing was off the chart, i checked his interviews on and off, but now it feels great to watch a bit more of these. Be healthy all of you out there
So heartbreaking. I hope he found peace and happiness before his passing tonight. I gasped when I heard the news tonight. Thank you for posting this interview so quickly.
It still feels surreal that he's gone. Friends was a huge part of my childhood and Matthew Perry's comedic timing playing Chandler was brilliant, which is why he was my favorite on the show. I know he did a lot to help people who struggled with addiction and that's what he wanted to be remembered for. I hope Matthew's soul is at peace now. It's a darker world without him.
Just last week, my wife & I were remembering the blackout episode of Friends (when it originally aired, all the NBC shows that night did a coordinated blackout plot) when Chandler was trapped in the ATM vestibule with Jill Goodacre (“Get Joey on the phone!!”). Whatever my wife & I were talking about, I said that it would be perfection, which led us to Chandler’s line: “Gum would be perfection,” and we laughed. Matthew had a rough go of it, despite the wealth & fame, or maybe on account of it. It’s easy to judge and harder to sympathize & empathize sometimes, especially with celebrities. We’re all just trying to make it through life, hopefully helping each other out along the way, sharing whatever gifts we might have. Matthew’s was making us laugh. It may have not been perfection, but it was worth the time.
@@TheKitchenerLeslie he often helped the writers of Friends come up with the perfect retort when they were stuck. So I suspect the Foosball in the show was Matthew's idea
Listening to his autobiography audiobook right now. Ironically I started it last night. Very good book and very eerie! This because the book just became available from my library yesterday. I originally requested to check it out in June. All of a sudden last night of all nights I got a notification saying it had become available. I literally started listening just hours after his untimely passing. RIP Matthew Perry!
His funny take on The Love Boat was great and accurate. And now I’m sad that he didn’t do a movie with Sandra Bullock. They would have been terrific together.
God Bless Matthew Perry, may he rest in peace. I was gutted hearing the news of his inexplicable death tonight -- what an undeniable talent. Brilliant comedic timing and physical actor. He could deliver a line of dialogue -- no matter how quick or banal -- into pure gold. God, as a Gen X'er I grew up with him every Thursday night and he was always the highlight of the Friends cast from Season 1 to the final episode in 2004. Despite some on & off behind-the-scenes struggles, he ALWAYS delivered when the camera was on. Gonna' miss that guy and his talent so much. Thanks for all the best laughs Matthew. And thank you for always being a Friend. 😢 Lord, why Matthew and not Marcelle? Or Ugly Naked Guy? Huh? **Thanks to the Letterman tapes team for posting Dave's first interview with Matthew so quickly. Thanks for stating what I've been feeling so well. I remember watching the Friends pilot when it came out, and watched the show all the way through, over the years, to the last episode. I've been seeing lots of behind the scenes videos, and apparently Matthew often helped the writers when they were stuck, searching for the perfect witty retort. They'd call him over and he'd come up with just the right line, on the spot. Matthew has stated recently he wants to be remembered not just for his acting, but for helping other people with their addictions. Hank Azaria credits Matthew with helping him get clean and sober. Matthew set up a facility in for men with addiction. I'm going to be reading his biography which came out a year ago. Heartbreaking loss, when it seems the past year he was doing better in terms of the addiction. RIP Matthew Perry 💔
Loved his sense of humour, it was hard to see him struggle over the years pain management is extremely difficult, sad to see his death seems to be accidental at this point RIP
It was most likely suicide, given that he reactivated himself on social media after a months-long absence just to post cryptic messages that some people were already questioning days ago if they meant he was in trouble. The most ominous one being a final picture of him in his hot tub, with a sarcastic remark saying the water is supposed to make you feel good.

I rlly miss him. I miss him so much
Funny that Matthew talks about being a tennis player because he’s been living pickle ball before he passed. When I was 12 I saw Matthew Perry at the Dairy Queen in my hometown. My friends parents worked at the Hazelden treatment center (about 20 mins away) and would leave some cash on the counter with a note saying “go get yourself and a friend a treat at 12:00 on Tuesday” because they knew a celebrity would be out for an outing from Hazelden, but they technically couldn’t say anything. My friend saw Ozzy the week before, and then saw Layne Staley later on that summer. Anyways, he seemed quite nice.
Matthew could have been a stand up comedian..or a writer for that matter (full time I mean) I always loved him on Friends. I know he wanted to be remembered for helping people but Friends made people laugh and has stood the test of time. That also helps people to feel that humour inside.
Loved the episode where Chandler's boss, played by the hilarious Sam McMurray, slaps all of his male underlings on the rear as some sort of encouraging send off to do a good job. Chandler isn't comfortable with this and gets up the courage to tell him. When his boss stops slapping him, Chandler misses it and asks his boss to start doing again. 😂😂😂 Perry was exceptional in that episode, as he was in all of them. It's so sad to think he is no longer with us. 😢
Here while reading the book! Funny how reading his memoir feel like me takking directly to him. everything he has written is just make me think about how he talks, and the way he talks
the man struggled with more demons than most, lord knows how many times he’s gazed into the abyss. quite a bitter shame, he was just fixing himself up too. rest easy.
This is how Matthew's drug addiction began. In his book he says he found out that his parents gave him barbiturates prescribed by a doctor to put him to sleep. As a baby. Between the ages of thirty and sixty days, which is an important time in a baby’s development, especially when it comes to sleeping. He had colic, and this was something that some doctors prescribed at that time, unfortunately. Important to note that barbiturates are a depressant drug class that generates addiction. Then, Perry became addicted to Vicodin after a jet-ski accident in 1997. Completely predictable, given his early introduction. And it went from there. Poor guy never had a chance.
You don't need to have been exposed to something as a baby to be susceptible to addiction. If he had no memory of it, and didn't become addicted to something until he was an adult decades later, then it likely played no factor in his addiction.
