The Doom books (I have all four, I'm not aware of any more that exist) have as much to do with Doom as the Disney Trilogy of Star Wars have to do with Star Wars.

While unexpanded CK3 is certainly better than unexpanded CK2 with respect to features, it's probably going to take another half a decade before CK3's DLCs catch up to fully-expanded CK2, and meanwhile the base game of CK2 is available on Steam for free, and you can get access to all of CK2's DLCs by paying one monthly recurring fee of, if I recall correctly, like $5. I tried CK3 at one point when there was a free trial available last year, and I quickly decided that, while the game has great potential, it needs a while to catch up to fully-expanded CK2.
Crusader Kings. The only game where you can turn the Family Tree into the Family Tumbleweed, AND SOMEHOW manage to turn your entire family, into living breathing gods.
