  • 🐝 This hive was identified as queenless about a month ago.
🐝 Rather than requeen it or add frames of young brood I decided to remove the honey supers and shake the remaining bees out of the brood box.
🐝 The bees will find their way into nearby hives & I will use the frames on other hives.

Thanks for watching my videos & commenting. I've been a bit quiet lately due to the rain but hope to make more videos soon.

I thought that after the hive had had no brood at all for about two weeks that they can start to become laying workers. Why hasn't this been mentioned here? is it not always so? And why not paper over another hive. I didnt think they would be accepted just going into other hives, interesting.

Yes, they can develop into laying workers but not always. The displaced bees will fly into other hives bees drift between hives all the time. I would only do a paper combine if I was merging two big populous hives. The hive I shook out had no hope of recovery & I didn't want to lose the resources to hive beetles.

I just did this to a queen less hive that had laying workers and it was a blood bath. A lot of dead bees in front of the queen right hive. Any idea why?

What do you do with all the frames with drone brood?

There would have been some fighting however they all found a home. Why? That's how it works.

When they go through the front door without robbing behavior, bees are almost accepted into a new colony. Fighting occurs when they are directly introduced unless they are nurse bees. The honeybee will take in any nurse bee without a fight.
