    Do the bees from the shaken out hives join the neighboring hives? Doesn't that stress out the neighbor? With no newspaper to give them a delay are there other potential problems?

    What treatment did you use Ian, i was hoping on using Apivar strips. I tried a product last year called Verroamed from Germany. Trickle effect and can cause queen death. So I won't be using that again...

    Ian In a commercial beekeeper and we are always working on what to use for mite treatments ..And it seems everyone has a different opinion on what works and what don't .. This year we have use formic pro and it seems to be working ,some of the best looking hives I've seen this time of the year .. So what are your thoughts on formic??? So from one beekeeper to another I sure do enjoy what you share with us and I would like to Thank you. Just wondering what your thought are on Formic Pro.. From your neighbor to the south .. Minnesota beekeeper..

      Formic is a good option. I’m cautious about treatments that potentially could shut the nest down early or damage brood because these last rounds of brood are important, I don’t have an opportunity to brood again after that treatment

    Ian, if you wouldn't mind, can you expand just a bit more you your thoughts about that queen supercedure cell you showed on the frame and dropping strips? I am still applying OAV but plan to drop strips soon. This week, we are expected to hit a high of 97 degrees F for a few days. Our fall nectar flow is in full bloom but I expect that window to gradually close.

      I assumed that because of the emergency cell stage, it corresponded exactly with our last round of dropping strips.

    I do see supersedures in "older" hives when starting feeding for the winter. Especially if the flow dried up early. But almost no or no drones makes it a spring problem. Well, empty boxes full with well organized food in spring does have there place on big hungry spring colonies..

      Nope, this cell was drawn from the bottom of the brood comb , this queen was developed using young worker larvae . Emergency
      The number of cells have nothing to do with which type of cell it is. How the cell assumes it’s developed larvae is what determines the cell type.

    • @nztasha
      @nztasha 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a limited window of time for the queen to mate. If there aren’t any drones around to mate with the queen is destined to become a drone layer.
