Funny how on Veterans Day, actual veterans have to go to work, while politicians have the day off to thank us. Just an example of their amazing gratitude. 😡
@@mzaite post office too. When I was living paycheck to paycheck, it always seemed like I was trying to cash my check on Veterans Day. It either would come a day late, or I got it and tried to cash it on Veterans Day and couldn’t. It was like I was being punished for being a veteran. Always rubbed me the wrong way. 🤯
There are also lots of veterans that are bankers and post office workers, even government workers and public employees. But I do agree that veterans should all have veterans day off.
You can’t be serious. You’ll soon find out how he has blatantly lied on our behalf. He’s turning this into a political agenda, lying about the Republicans motives. The Democrats have never done a thing to help vets! Don’t trust the media, read the CURRENT bill, then you too will be pissed at Stewart for insulting our intelligence!
I can't believe that the "Home of the Brave" is so full of pussies. The US military storms beaches, drives through hurricanes, rains Hell from above and below on our enemies, but can't even stand up to the likes of Ted Cruz, or Josh Hawley, or Lauren Boebert, or Steve Bannon, or any of the traitors. 12 veterans with nothing to lose could turn Mar-a-Lago into a crater in one day, but not unless they get permission from their tv masters first, right?
This fool didn't even look at Democrats sliding in a 400 billion dollar spending bill on top of the vets bill sign one you have to sign them both not like we don't have enough inflation already fastest way to make the middle class poor raise food and gas good luck
Jon will say this isn't true or downplay it but he had a huge impact on our culture and politics during his tenure on The Daily Show. I honestly believe that Hillary would have won if Jon was still doing The Daily Show during the 2016 presidential campaign. We needed someone to debunk/make sense out of all the e-mail and "lock her up" insanity but we didn't have a strong voice of reason like Jon to counter it all.
@@alb453 yeah too bad Chuck Schumer put a 4 billion dollar package in after it passed the house no that wouldn't have added to inflation no 13 billion for vets and 400 billion for Nancy pelosi and their money laundering please
Jon I'm a firefighter for the military. In 2007 we had to put out the fires for the burn pit that were not supposed to be on fire (likely from a wind shift). Us and the heavy equipment operators spent a fair amount of time literally managing trash fires/burn pits. Due to both sides of my job, military/fireman, it's been an absolute pleasure watching you take our representatives to task to support 9/11 first responders and now with the same tenacity, veterans who have had problems from the burn pits. You are revered by these circles as one of our best advocates and allies and truly from the bottom of our hearts (and lungs) we appreciate every calorie you've spent being our advocate.
As a fellow service member and healthcare provider thank you for your service and clear sacrifice. We can only hope losers like Cruz are not re-elected to office as they just care about themselves
The only reason you want a bill's funding to be discretionary is if you want to use it as a leverage point in the future. As a discretionary spending measure, they would vote on it each year, to keep it funded. The year that they didn't pass the vote on the spending would be the year that they stopped paying, forever. They're mad because they can't stop paying for it. The whole point of their last vote, was cruelty to the people who are already suffering.
Wrong as always. The reason you wanted it mandatory is that it provides an additional $400,000,000,000 allowed inspending that will have nothing to do with veterans. Oldest cheapest trick in the book. Then when Republicans oppose it because more spending equals MORE inflation, you use dorkt celebrites to try and demonize them. Normal, decent people know this and see it for what it is. It's hilarious hearing the people who voted out the first man to NOT start a war and who stopped out soldiers from being killed and injured around the world talk about caring for veterans. Thanks to you loving democrats it only took a few months for 13 soldiers to die, and you checked your watches at their funerals. Disgusting, horrible people.
@Ben Dobson, What's sad is thank you's are not going to get you your benefits that you and every Veteran deserves.. You went did your job and yet the very same people that sent you could careless about you.. They think it is a big joke..

Thank you for helping bring such importance to country's attention. We, as a country can not keep taking our brave military service people for granted anymore. Thank you Jon Stewart for doing what dishonest politicians won't.
I'm glad to see SOMEONE in this world so high profile is speaking with such passion and fucking rage, but still managing to be so funny and personable. Must do wonders for helping cope with all the bullshit forced upon us by the political class. Don't stop, Jon. Keep raging, yelling, and calling out the bullshit. We wanna scream with you!
Right. Because politics solves so many problems right? I mean politicians keep solving problem after problem. So screaming bloody murder really works. The nice thing is politics has such fine leaders. Like Biden who takes Weekend at Bernies to the White House. Literally brain dead. Literally! The only, ONLY, political solution to ANYTHING is less politics....shrink it until it is GONE. Once GONE you will have the least suffering and the best possible world.
My experience with the VA actually started before my service. I took one of my brothers, a Vietnam vet to his appointment at the local VA hospital. We walked down a hall that was 100 feet long, and there were vets laying on gurneys stacked head to toe on both sides of the hall waiting for care. Its okay to die for your country, but they damn sure dont want to take care of you when you dont.
Come on young man, do your research. Jon is using this and his disinformation to discredit the Republicans. Read the CURRENT bill, you’ll be amazed at how blatantly he lies! The Democrats have NEVER done a thing to help vets, just the progressives who hate the military and insult us and belittle the sacrifices we’ve made. It sincerely hurts me to see a brother in arms fall for Stewart’s bullshit. Please do the research and you’ll see what I’m saying.
I was raised to hate war. I was raised to respect people that serve. Thank you Jon for sticking to this issue. I pay my taxes and want to be able to say that this is getting done. I have been told several times by veterans that they do now want to be thanked they just need to know that they are supported. I thought on that. I cannot put into words how disgusted I am at this situation. These people risked their lives. They deserve way better. How in the hell can this be a thing? Are we gonna have to do the biggest GO FUND ME campaign in history? This isnt even about universal health care its about taking care of the people that fight to defend the constitution. If we fail them ..we fail everyone.
No true American would ever vote against any veteran support. We are who we are because of these people. You can't support military support bills that claim to spend this money on active duty troops while also saying no to veteran medical care. It shows its not about the vets or the military; it's so fat Oligarchs like Ted Cruz can make millions in profit from misappropriated taxpayer money. Like, what? Oh, say, a $40 Billion check to Ukraine for 'support' wherein most of that value is the weapons content. We claimed we were giving them aid, but just glossed over 80% of the aid is just the sale value of the weapons they sold. Only 20% was actually food and medical supplies. In doing this, they took taxpayer money and used it to "give to Ukraine" in the form of missiles and other weapons. Basically they wrote themselves a blank check and sold weapons for a war effort. It's the same shit every few decades. They're playing everyone for fools. Rise up!
Everything you said and more. You said it so well, not going to try here. Just wanted to thank you and support your message. Our Veterans deserve so damn much better.
Oh just a small point, besides the fact that Veterans deserve all the gratitude and good actions we can muster,I still think all Americans deserve health care and child care so people can afford to live and not lose their lives and homes over a damn illness. Covid has put me in the medical bill hole and that is with good insurance.
Thank you for serving. Ted has the best healthcare plan ever and you have sh*t with the VA. You deserve far better. All vets should have the best health care and coverage we can give them.
You're awesome, Jon Stewart. The vets shouldn't need your voice for people to just do the right thing, but they do. Keep doing what you do! All the best from one of your many Canadian fans!!
Frustrating to watch when Jon and those working with him work so hard to get this thing to pass, only for Cruz and others to betray them this way. Despite these times, Jon keeps at it!
@@zoyadulzura7490 Stewart is making a strawman argument. Not once did Cruz say the poison pill trick was new thing. He didn't. Jon is a lying POS. What Cruz CORRECTLY pointed out is that there is a $400 billion poison pill in the PACT Act, put there by Democrats. That's absolutely accurate. Why did the Dems put it there? Because they wanted GOP to vote "no" so they could make campaign commercials. Why doesn't Jon go off on Democrats for adding that poison pill to the PACT Act that had the votes to pass?
@Carl G Jon is telling the truth; Cruz is the one being dishonest. The one sentence that was removed was not budget-related and it was merely a small procedural requirement. Nothing else was changed. The same funding structure that the Senate had previously approved was still there, unchanged. Those senators who changed their votes truly do not "support our troops"--preventing the passage of this bill hurts veterans.
This is absolutely appalling to treat veterans this way. Unfortunately this is common place now and sticking it to the opposing party. I bet Dr. Pepper is wishing that Sydney Powell and Ted Cruz would stop drinking their product in front of the media.
I'm so shocked that Ted Cruz would lie like that. Actually, I'm lying, I'm not at all shocked. I feel like that kind of lying by a person in Congress should come with consequences. Severe, legal consequences. Like, job-ending consequences. Legislators should have to tell the truth, and the fact that they *don't* have to is pretty terrible.
If you think that Jon has read the bill, you are a buffoon. The damn government doesn't even read the the entire bill, it is compromised by many people. Lol
It's hard to argue with comedians, because their subject matter is REALITY. Thank you, John. I agree with what Dave C said at your Mark Twain award ceremony: If you ran for President I would vote for you.

I appreciate what you did for the First Responders from 9/11 and I appreciate what you are doing now by fighting for the Vets. Honestly I have never really seen the GOP do anything for our military that benefits those that serve. They approve money for more supplies like tanks, jets, weapons, etc. but not very much for those who are out there serving our country. I have been upset about that for a very long time now. It's also so sad that Vietnam Veterans didn't have immediate help ( or a spokesperson like you fighting for them) from their exposure to Agent Orange. That is horrible stuff!! It hurt Vietnam both the country and the people. I so applaud you for all that you do. I also love that you & your wife have a sanctuary farm.
Thank you Jon for standing up for veterans. I can't even begin to tell you how much I appreciate it. I was absolutely stunned and Pissed Off when I saw that this bill was shot down at the very last second. My blood is boiling. UGH!! Signed, retired military veteran, USAF, active duty 1985-2005.

I applaud Jon for keeping this relative and holding these accountable who switched their stories and votes. It’s appalling those who supposedly represent their communities turn their back on the men/ women who sacrificed so much for our freedoms. My husband’s brother did 4 tours in Iraq 🇮🇶 and now has Barrett’s Esophagus. And to now deny the health care these veterans need, is maddening 🤬😡
Jon. Please keep this pressure going on Republicans. Keep calling them out by name. Be specific. Make sure the people know that the Republicans are to blame. Don’t be in the middle. Do what it takes to protect our veterans.
Ted recently said his new chosen pronoun is "kiss my ass" (his words not mine). So folks should start referring to him by his new pronoun. "Hey, why doesn't kiss my ass wanna support this bill?" Or "Hey, when is kiss my ass planning their next trip to Cancun?"
Jon. Please keep this pressure going on **congress.** Keep calling them out by name. Be specific. Make sure the people know that the **congress is** to blame. Don’t be in the middle. Do what it takes to protect our veterans. My parents were active duty until I was 18, and I've been active duty since I was 18. We pay VERY close attention to all the minutia of the executive and legislative branches of government. By and large, over time, it becomes very clear to military members which candidates and parties have our best interests at heart. It is almost always the republican party. The democrat party uses us, and only says they care about us when it's politically convenient. There's always FAR more to the story than meets the eye, no matter who you are. Sometimes it backdoor deals the caucuses are making. Sometimes it's because someone inserts an amendment that causes a total shutdown of a bill because of that amendment. Hell, I was in Iraq in 2011 when congress shut down the government and furloughed our civilian military members. There's always more to it; but I honestly don't expect most people to know any more than a few hours worth of TV and 25-50 "news articles" (which are usually all derived from the same source) worth of information. We know far more about it because it's our actual day-to-day life to know everything there is to know about it. It would be like you working at Microsoft, and someone arguing with you after reading about microsoft online in the news. We know more, by the fact it affects us directly, and its not just some political points to be scored, or reddit argument to be won. But from decades of experience, the military is treated better by republicans, through US policy, executive agendas, executive orders, and when supported by republican controlled congress. That's not to say the democrats have given us nothing, but to use a single point, or a single bill, being held up by Republicans, and saying things like "Do what it takes to protect our veterans" when democrats have spent 32 years screwing over veterans.. it's just succumbing to a "straw man" way of looking at things.
@@bobguy6542 The military is treated better by Republicans? Explain Iran-Contra, Operation Cyclone, the Vietnam war, the war on drugs, the illegal invasion of Iraq, the hopeless war in Afghanistan, the secret torture program, Guantanamo Bay to specifically bypass the Geneva Conventions. Have you ever heard of the 1942 USDA film, *Hemp for Victory?* Have you ever heard of George HW Bush's Operation Green Sweep in 1990? George HW Bush ordered US Army soldiers to raid homes in northern California over the same "Marihuana" plant that made the parachute that saved George HW Bush's life when his bomber was shot down in 1944. @ John Stewart. I took your advice and went and read the bill. There are a number of line items that are not related directly to care for Veterans. (Sec. 904) This section increases the pay cap for certain employees of the VHA. (Sec. 908) This section eliminates the limitation on aggregate amounts for awards and bonuses for employees of the VA. (Both give "certain" VA pay increases). (Sec. 909) Among other elements, this section provides additional authority for the VA to provide recruitment and relocation bonuses, retention bonuses, merit awards, incentives for critical skills, and student loan repayments. The section increases the cap on the number of college graduates and post-secondary students the VA may hire through an expedited process. The VA may authorize the fixing of the rate of pay for critical positions in the VA, with some limitations. Additionally, the VA may establish a rate for special pay and may waive the limitation on certain payments, such as bonuses. Is this part of the "care for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxins that is it"?

I've watched you since I was a teenager & I'm so glad that you're back doing regular political commentary, because I know darn well that if I'm having a difficult time finding reliable information on something or with accurately assessing the information I've gathered, that I can go find your take & you'll help me cut through the bullspit & get my footing on the issue. You've done that for me yet again on this important act. I know I can trust you. Even on the rare things on which we don't agree, I always easily understand & respect your logic. But, watching you speak about this act & seeing how clearly bonded you are to the veterans & their families, is just beautiful. It's beauty, somehow, even in tragedy. Politicians should be advocates for the vulnerable & warriors against injustice, but most of them have no interest in advocating for anything other than their own pockets & no interest in justice that doesn't serve their selfish ends. I hope someday, somewhere, I get to see your name on a ballot.

George HW Bush ordered US Army soldiers to raid homes in northern California over the same "Marihuana" plant that made the parachute that saved George HW Bush's life when his bomber was shot down in 1944.
Republicans betrayed everything that this country is supposed to be.
Then they attacked Congress to overthrow the government and abolish the US Constitution.
@@Marijuanifornia well I was trying to have a reasonable conversation with a reasonable American. I guess that’s out of the question.
“Then they attacked Congress to overthrow the government and abolish the US constitution.”
So you’re just lumping tens of millions of Americans, along with almost the entire military, into that statement? You think the military tried to abolish the US constitution? The one we’ve sworn our lives to protect?
With all due respect, you seem brainwashed. I’ll still go to work Monday and protect your rights, and defend you with my mind, body, and soul; but you’re prescribing to quite an extremist ideology. You should work on that. -out
@@bobguy6542 I'm a veteran, too. It was all bullshit. We still had a Confederate flag waving over our barracks in Georgia in the late 1990s. I had Black cadre telling me to salute the flag of traitors. How many years had that traitor flag waved over US Army barracks until I got there and made them take them down? How many of America's bravest and boldest mildly bowed their heads and saluted the flag of traitors just because they were told to?
You're the one who's brainwashed if you can't watch *Hemp for Victory* and automatically tell that you've been lied to for your entire life.
Everything that you've been told about "freedom and democracy" is a sick lie. January 6 was the time to defend the US Constitution, and every veteran sat with their thumbs in their asses, watching it happen on television like every other pampered American consumer and not lifting a finger to do a damned thing about it. Appreciate all of the hard work and exposing this BS. I have been fighting the VA for the last 12 years with no success. Within months of getting out I had bilateral PE's and a DVT. Was lucky enough to be a SF Medic, understand the signs / symptoms and went straight to the ER where they confirmed. Went on blood thinners for 6 months. Advised to go off and shortly after had another bad PE which I was able to self-diagnose and go back to the ER. Have had to be on blood thinners ever since. VA of course has said twice that it isn't service related....they would all prefer if we just died. Please keep up the fight. We are tracking. God Bless.
Well said. Being a veteran from a family of veterans we thank you!!!!!

You've done that for me yet again on this important act.
I know I can trust you. Even on the rare things on which we don't agree, I always easily understand & respect your logic. But, watching you speak about this act & seeing how clearly bonded you are to the veterans & their families, is just beautiful. It's beauty, somehow, even in tragedy.
