‘Resistance is calling; Russia will act again' | Defence in Depth

  • It is December 2023. The full scale invasion of Ukraine is about to enter its third year. Russia’s assault, which was supposed to last no more than a month, has gone on for twenty times as long and there are few signs of it ending soon. That sentiment is both celebrated and cursed across the shattered country of Ukraine.
This war will decide whether Russia’s actions are the last dying twitches of twentieth-century fascism, or the bolshy teenage kicks of the twenty-first. The outcome will affect the entire world.
So as we stare into 2024, we are all in this arena whether we like it or not.

This war is not just about the evil fascism in this world. It is a constant "testing" of how the "good" react. The reason Putler invaded in the first place was not just hubris, but he sense the West has become careless and decadent. A literal wake-up call for countries considering themselves the decent, moral and righteous civilisation... But as much as I hate to say it, he was right: Look how slow the West reacted in sending arms (Germany, 5000 helmets?) just cause they didn't want to get off their comfortably heated marble seats (thanks to cheap Russian gas, a smart tactic used by Putler for that VERY REASON: to keep the West hooked like lazy addicts).
In the same vein, Israel's evil right-wing regime is now testing again the moral spine of the West, which has shown the world yet again how morally bankrupt and hypocritical the West is, with USA's unbelievably despicable veto for a ceasefire and some countries, incl. the UK for absentions.
If we want the good to prevail in the world, we have to WAKE UP! Stop being dependant, complaciant and indifferent. Stop letting the rotten greed of power and money rot our souls. Evil (including greed and control) is here to constantly poke the good out of their careless slumber and force us to take responsibilty to ACTIVELY promote and protect the GOOD.
Once the good outnumber the bad, we no longer have to fight them in a tedious constant battle, but rather heal them onto the other side with the love and attention these evil folk never received from their mothers in their infancy.

Even from an entirely cynical standpoint, Ukraine has been remarkably effective with the resources that have been given to them. I think it’s been around half a percent of the US military budget per year and a lot of the weapons that we have sent are things that would’ve needed to be disposed of anyways, and that’s ignoring your point about how they desperately want to maintain their democratic freedoms, and seem to value what that mean more than we do.

There is probably a cynical calculation here. Losing the war quickly might not weaken Russia, but each day of this conflict means irreparable damage to the Russian state. Ukraine, of course, also suffers, but Ukrainians themselves must decide whether they want to neighbor with a weak or a strong Russia after the war. A loss for Ukraine would be a disaster from the West's point of view. It would show the world that NATO is weak and cannot win and support its allies. It is no coincidence that Putin decided to launch a full-scale invasion after the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan. He sensed US weakness and that emboldened him.

Really excellent: Moving and thought-provoking. I don't understand what's happening in the right-wing politics of my country (USA,) but I know Republican's denying aid to Ukraine cannot be right. I know there's no way to construe that Russia and it's leaders are the good guys. This seems like an elemental conflict everywhere, but most dramatically in Ukraine. Do enough citizens of this planet still have working moral compasses to prevail over selfishness, vainglory and oppression? I hope so, with all my heart.

What´s happening in the right-wing politics of the U.S. is the same thing that happened in Germany in the 1930´s. "That man can do no wrong." My country neighbours Germany and we studied that part of history a lot, and it certainly rings a bell. It´s the dark side of humanity that can rear its head any time, anywhere. It´s important to fight it, but also not to lose focus on the good things: fun with friends, hope and ideas for the future, fair play, creativity, understanding, honest conversations.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Israel Lobby and one of the most powerful lobbies in the USA) will make them reconsider torpedoing Biden's budget. All republicans want right now is to not let Biden do anything even if they agree with him, because they dont want to give him nor the democrats political points in an election year, its a scummy tactic that makes 1 out of 4 years of the term a farse.

A sad war where a lot of Slavic young men have died because of geopolitical reasons and wrong decisions.Just think if a decision was made to negotiate a peaceful solution instead of thinking that they can win.As usual both sides made mistakes and are going to perpetuate hatred and genetically they are almost identical. The first time I had a fight at school wasn’t because I wanted to fight this guy but because someone pushed me onto him and the fight started so baseless fight which created an enemy for ever even though we were both school mates beforehand.I know it is not the same but to me it was planned and it escalated from there.Ukraine even though a large country was poor and I can see that being included into the European Union was the main reason some of those decisions were made at the beginning but was it worth it.
