this movie honestly felt like they had a different movie but didn’t think it was gonna make them any money so slapped the paranormal activity name on it
@@balabanasireti it sucks because the only real complaint i on it is it doesn’t feel like a paranormal activity movie. if they just ran with the creepy cult thing and just called this next of kin i wouldbe like it way more
Yeah, It hurt this movie. Every other sequel is directly connected to the same continuity so I came into this one expecting it tie in at some point. I sat there waiting for the twist that would make this a paranormal activity movie and it just didn't happen. If this ever gets a sequel maybe they fold it into the existing canon but as it stands calling it Paranormal Activity feels cynical as hell. This whole thing felt like when it was written it wasn't even a found footage script, never mind a paranormal activity one. They just bolted on the found footage conceit to justify calling it "paranormal activity".
I also can't believe they're dancing to As The World Falls. I LOVE the Labyrinth and have been listening to the soundtrack on repeat. As The World Falls is my favorite.
Taking a moment in the beginning to say that the notification on James' phone is the same sound my mom uses to remind her to take her pills and I had a Pavlovian response to looking to see if she needed to take them. She's at work. She's no where near me.
@@NicHasegawa and I’m like “are you out of your mind?!?” But I shouldn’t judge because I’m more vulnerable to the cold and they are in a jacuzzi so that’s nice
I could easily believe she got footage of her being left at the hospital because the news had the footage. They could have played it on TV as a way to help find the mom to see if she's okay or needs help, and someone saved the footage on vhs or in the studio.
The short story Chelsea mentioned by Ursula K. Le Guin is called "The ones who walk away from Omelas," where they torture a kid to keep the community prosperous
Its really weird that an argument could be made that the best Ursula K. Le Guin adaptation (at the time of writing) is Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin.
I was watching this while at work and I feel like every coworker who walked behind me and saw my screen was very, very confused as to what I was watching.
I'm relatively new to the Dead Meat channel (but have been smashing my way through the Kill Counts!) Just wanted to wish you both the best with the wedding. Make sure you guys schedule time through the day to meet up and spend time with each other (advice from my own wedding day where we spent so much time with the guests we hardly saw each other!). Anyway, hope you both have a fantastic and memorable day and congratulations.
I just noticed the RGB lights on the hot tub and I am on the borderline of anxious for all the electronic stuff and Happy for both of you, you earned this overindulgence and I am happy for your marriage!
I remember at one point it was explained that as Sarah's body is weakening, the demon is able to exert some of it's power, and my takeaway was that it was trying to frighten away Margot so that she couldn't be used to imprison it again.
I'd love to see a found footage film in the vein of Oculus, where the person setting up the cameras and such is taking a hardcore research-and-confront approach to the entity/entities.
I was listening to this in my car and all the fizzing of the hot tub made me picture you guys in a giant glass of soda lmao. Congrats on the wedding guys, love watching you live your best lives.
I was actually under the impression that this does tie into the other movies. I'm fairly certain that Asmodeus is supposed to be Tobi. Asmodeus is just his real name, no? I'm confused how the end of Ghost Dimension ties into the situation in this one, but it seemed like this was a separate cult that was trying to trap Tobi rather than bring him to life. Maybe I misinterpreted things though. And an eighth movie was already announced and is supposed to come out next year that ties much more directly to the previous films. Even Katie is credited as being in it.
It's been a year but I just got to this and read it before watching, and with this in mind, all their questions and annoyance make sense. The mother was a vessel to trap him, and the daughter was meant to replace her. But without her, the vessel was fading, leaking out, showing itself in ways through the movie, etc. They even have a goat reference in the previous movie they complained about having. I dig it
Cheers to the last pod of being engaged and can't wait for the first one as married! Congrats on the wedding next month, it's finally happening and I'm so happy for you both! ❤️

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and enjoy your time off. I'll be working my way through your previous episodes that whole time, I'm sure.
Have a great wedding you two! you deserve it far more than most I don't have a direct answer for the bed and the face in the window but I think the reason there's activity around the property even though Asmodeus is "contained" is that the current vessel has grown tired and is failing to hold him, hence why they need Margot, so slight vestiges of him are leaking out
Wait wtf, when did this happen? I follow this podcast religiously and NEVER knew this one happened lol. I was so sad y'all never got to talk about Next of Kin, BUT IT'S BEEN HERE FOR ALMOST A YEAR
@@kashoot4782 I just watched it, and it's good! For a Paranormal Activity movie, it strays off really far. All characters are new and none of the old ones are mentioned or appear, but I really liked the new cast. It has good script and dialogue, and the Amish community feels believable in their oddities and behaviour. As for the conflict with the demon, it's a little different from what we saw in the previous movies. There are only two nights with hauntings, but they're pretty tense. The most intriguing part is definitely the exposition on the demon, Asmodeus, which named itself Tobi in the previous films to avoid giving the power of its name, and the mission of the Amish regarding it. The only problem, however, is that I'm unsure how this movie will collaborate with the next ones in the franchise. PA's strongest appeal to people is the lore, so I don't know how the next movies will keep going with what we know now about the demon. Either way, the movie is good! The cinematography is certainly of insane quality, with beautiful shots due to the purpose of this movie being found-footage.
Great last episode of the podcast for 2021 - Hope you guys have an amazing break and a bomb ass wedding! Got so excited when you mentioned that your first dance would be to "As the World Falls Down", that's on my wedding list too♡

paranormal pool party, paranormal pool party- i'm so happy to send this year off with some fun content. i'm excited to see both james and chelsea in the new year, after a long deserved break and wedding!!!
The best theory I've got on the whole "demon able to manipulate stuff even though it's contained" situation (and what I think the filmmakers were going for) was that Margot's mom Sarah has been this demon's vessel for so long that it's starting to weaken her body. Of course, as she gets weaker, the "seal", if you will, which keeps the demon inside of her gets weaker, allowing it to affect the community at large (which is how you get the two-headed goat, the sleepwalking kids, the demon reaching out to possess Margot, etc.) It all serves as even more reason why they need Margot to become the new vessel
If this wasn't found footage (although I normally really enjoy found footage) and it wasn't a Paranormal Activity title for some reason I think I would've really loved this.
Honestly this movie makes more sense if it was a Spin-off/requel where they scrap ghost dimension and how Tobi got his physical form and instead the people in this village manage to trap Tobi while he was still in his spirit form leading to the events of this movie as a spin off from the usual Katie/Kristie story we know like the marked ones since we know the name used in this movie is Tobi's actual name.

I love the way James says "written" like "wrih-en". It reminded me of Eminem's pronunciation of "didn't" in Stan, and I guessed it was a Detroit area/Michigan thing. Apparently it is.
I'm sure someone else has already mentioned it but the movie James mentioned with Tim Allen and Kirstie Alley is "For Richer or Poorer." I remember enjoying it as a kid, haven't seen it in years.

As someone who grew up in PA, the Amish were always around. Very common to see a buggy on the road as you're driving. They would have stores where they crafted furniture out of wood. We used to buy from an Amish store where they would sell rejected-but-still-good grocery items for insanely low prices. I used to work for a hauling startup and a lot of our customers were Amish from the area. When I moved to Colorado it was interesting to hear people talk about the Amish as if they were rare unicorns lol.

I live in a state with a lot of Amish population and go to college just outside of an Amish community. The Amish-crafted furniture is SO ornate and gorgeous but it can be slightly expensive, it depends on where you go. It's cool though, it helps their community and it lasts forever. Also, a fun fact, since you were talking about COVID and the Amish, there was an actual concern for them when the pandemic hit because they wouldn't have internet or news to be caught up on the lockdowns. There was also apparently some kind of resistance within the community to wear their masks and stuff. This had no point, I just remembered that being a big part of 2020 and 2021 for us
Ok, so first off loved the podcast. I too was disappointed in the movie. Second I'm super jealous of you dancing to as the world falls down as your first dance. I had a court house wedding or that would have been my plan. And lastly I wish you nothing but the best on this break. I hope your wedding goes swimmingly. I hope you actually find the time to enjoy your break and unplug and just be. I look forward to seeing what new stuff you guys bring out in the new year. Congrats guys. Great work Chelsea!
Just FYI, that Tim Allen movie is called "For Richer or Poorer", and while some don't like it, I think it's worth a watch. There's some funny gags, and it features a great giant horse named Big John.

Also, a fun fact, since you were talking about COVID and the Amish, there was an actual concern for them when the pandemic hit because they wouldn't have internet or news to be caught up on the lockdowns. There was also apparently some kind of resistance within the community to wear their masks and stuff. This had no point, I just remembered that being a big part of 2020 and 2021 for us
I’m listening to the conversation and laughing every time I get reminded they’re in a hot tub
Great work Chelsea!
that Tim Allen movie is a classic. lol
when he says grace, “good god, let’s eat”
"Good food, good meat, good God let's eat"
@@courttheshort87 yes!! Lmaoo. thanks for reminding me.
Have a great break, James and Chelsea! Loved having another Paranormal Activity review.
Knowing their first dance is to As The World Falls Down by David Bowie is just incredibly adorable
Just FYI, that Tim Allen movie is called "For Richer or Poorer", and while some don't like it, I think it's worth a watch. There's some funny gags, and it features a great giant horse named Big John.
Have you seen doom but everything is Tim Allen?
@@miketrapper0464 well it's certainly goin on my list now.
@@jacobhumphrey3535 do it it’s a masterpiece of comedy
