I have a raspy voice I honestly love it!! But there are times when I’m listening to Dolly Parton or other singers with soft voices I get really emotional because my voice isn’t soft and it will never come out soft

I love singing and I’m planing on becoming a singer but there’s just times when I wish my voice could be a little bit softer and sometimes when I hear Janis I wish my voice could be more raspy but at the end of the day I wish it was more raspy cuz I love my raspy voice and I’m a Very old soul and I love rock n roll music Janis Joplin and Stevie nicks our my favorite singers

I cried.. Becoz I can relate to it...my voice didn't come out whenever I'm nervous..my biggest nightmare is to speak on mic during presentation.. Even I get nervous when I get a call.. I hate receiving calls.i always used to search on TH-cam about voices like mine, how they sound. Ur voice is much better than mine.. After watching the whole video I got emotional becoz everything was relatable.. And Ur empowering words really helps me.. Changed my perspective.. I have to work on my confidence.. Confidence will beat my nervousness

Thank you to everyone that has listened and watched my video, Hard to believe it has almost been 2 years since I posted this. I wanted to encourage you never to let anything stop you. I am a professional speaker and on television regularly in my hometown. I would have never thought I would have the courage to do these things, accept your differences and recognize they make you who you are.

Galit Ventura Rozen I really hope you reply but, when I was a baby I was born prematurely at 1 pound, and had a hard time breathing. So they stuck a breathing tube down my throat at they damaged my right vocal cord, so I have a kinda horse voice too!! Hard time in elementary school when ppl would pick on me and stuff but I learned to accept my voice on how it it

Accidentally found the video, made me emotional. I can not control my voice, it breaks in the middle of sentences and becomes hoarse, sometimes no sounds come out. When I was in school and in college I remained anxious everyday during roll call. Your story is really motivational. And I loved your voice! I suits you the best.

I don't even remember my voice before then.I used to hate it when the teacher calls out a class register or having to introduce myself in class for the first time. I used to have the same problem in school like you. But my problem was due to a phlegmy throat. I would be sitting in class, aware that there was lots of phlegm stuck in my throat, but would refrain from clearing my throat because my frequent clearing would disturb my fellow students and even if I did try to clear my throat, I won't be able to do so successfully. I would sit with the fear of teacher making me stand up to answer a question or read aloud some stuff from the book. When that happened, I would be in a fix. The phlegm clogging was toomuch to clear in a hurry, at least several attempts were required, to just reduce the quaver in my voice if not clear it completely. So when I stood up, and start clearing my throat, with my fingers or palm pressed on my throat, I would get sympathetic glances from my friends and the teacher. More often then not, my teacher would tell me "Ok sit down, I understand". Or sometimes I would start speaking in a clear voice but it would start quavering later as the phlegm entered he throat. The degree quaver would increase as I continued to speak, but I would avoid clearing my throat as It would actually back fire and aggravate the quaver in my voice. It would make me feel quite embarrassed. But as I grew up, I took this as an expression of my feminism. I learned to clear my throat with a gentle smile on my face, and in a rythmetic accent. So much was my new aquired style appriciated that sometimes people would compliment me on my distinct feminine style of throat clearing which was so different from un healthy random coughing that's become a norm since the late 90s.

It’s pretty opening to see a video like yours because I have a similar condition with my voice too. It sounds very raspy and hoarse, some of my videos have me talking and you can hear it. My voice has been the same for all my life, and I’m currently 21 years old. After some emergency surgeries I had as an infant, it changed my voice permanently. I understand completely the unfortunate times when kids at school would make fun of my voice or imitate it, not understanding that my voice is something I can’t really control. I don’t see it as a curse though, I see it more so as a conversation starter because whenever I meet new people, there’s a 95% chance they’ll ask me about me voice and ask, “do you have a cold?” Or “do you smoke?” But I just tell them no and explain my story. It’s something I wouldn’t want to change at this point, it’s a cool thing that is a part of me and I think it’s something that should be thought of as neat to have.

I love your voice tbh, it sounds so pleasant. And I've been bullied because of my voice too, I've gotten comments like "maybe you're a man because you sound like one" "why do you sound like a boy" "why are you purposely lowering your voice" but eventually I learned to appreciate my voice for the way it is. It might not be the most feminine voice but I can do a lot of cool things with it, like voice impressions so I'm happy with it

And I have reached to the point where I no longer participate in oral recitations. But now, as a college student, I am practicing how to boost my self-confidence when it comes to talking or public speaking and start embracing my raspy voice. 💓

Hello! Currently reading a book called "Change Your Voice Change Your Life" by Dr Mortan Cooper. In the book he explains common symptoms caused by perpetual voice misuse. One of those symptoms he mentions is that of Hoarseness. Not really knowing what it sounded like I went to TH-cam to hear what it sounds like so hence found you! Thanks for posting the video. Glad to see that you developed the confidence to overcome the anxiety that may have stemmed from your voice. That's rare. Many people turn inward and don't become what they could due to their perceived "errors". You fought through it. Being made fun of and not being able to be understood because of the voice is rough growing up, I grew up with a stutter.
There isn't much in education on the proper use of the voice for one reason or another but with me having a stutter I looked for solutions outside of what doctors told me to help me overcome it. The book helped me so much. I'm not saying you should abandon your voice but if you're curious about the mechanics of the voice and how people develop their voices that book is a gold mine.
    Cheers!

Hey just wanted to reach out to you and thank you for making this video. I myself have same voice as yours and was desperate to find people with the same voice as me. I’ve personally had people come up to me and say “do you smoke” “do u have a cold” laugh at my face. I’ve also recently had a lot older people come up to me and asked me to get help for my voice since I am doing speech pathology even tho there is nothing wrong in my medical reports. To say the least this has bought my confidence down and made me reconsider my whole career choice. But I am deciding to continue w this study and help raise awareness of people w same voices as us that are forced to believe there is something wrong or not normal w them. Thank you again for this admire your confidence.

The same happens to me. Im 19 and have a very similar voice and people make comments or questions many times like are you sick? Can you yell? Do you have something wrong, don't you??. It really bothers me because it makes me feel that my body is wrong and I can't change it. it's my biggest insecurity. I'm working on it and it's getting better🥰 Thanks for sharing you story too, I hope you are better and keep being you although sometimes is difficult in this society. I remind myself that the tone of my voice is only a physical characteristic and my body is only here to carry me through life. I hope it helps❤

You shouldn't just empower just women, you should empower men too, many men have very deep, awfully deep voices and they don't like it but you are right, I agree with you. When I was 15 my Mom forced me to wear braces because my teeth were crooked, she was the boss so I couldn't say no, now my teeth are straight but I lost my true identity of having true crooked teeth. I believe in self acceptance. I'm again all those breast augmentation surgeries and nose surgeries etc, but to each their own

Thank you so much for speaking about this, because I've never seen, met or heard anybody like me before, I had surgery when I was around two because I couldn't breathe and I had to get surgery of course and yk blah blah I had to get a trac and yk my voice was severely raspy to the point where you can't hear me at most times and throughout elementary I never thought it was a problem cause not much kids pointed it out and when they did they asked "what happened to your voice?" which i responded to "I had surgery cause i couldn't breathe" I didn't think that it was much of a big deal, even in 6th grade, nobody really ever pointed it out, but then in 8th grade is when i started to get a reality check, many people, girls, guys it didn't matter they all said the same things, "You sound like a cig smoker" "lay off the cigarettes" "you sound like an old man" "hey no voice" "you got cum in your mouth? why you sound like that", they even mocked my voice while i js watch, and when i do tell them why they wanna act all innocent and shit and sad like you fr aint ruin my day. Even online I can't escape from the torment and hate against my voice, adults, kids, teens, everyone hated it and called me names and harassed me because of it, my mother says she likes my voice and stuff but let's be real of course she'd say that, I can't scream, i can barely yell and if i do people would say that I'm yelling in lowercases, i just hated my voice so much like to the point where i became mute at most times because of the hate and when i do people would call me weird, like i can't go anywhere without people mentioning my voice and slandering me about it, I didn't want my voice to be like this, i never did, even my little cousin started to realize the change in my voice and asked me "why your voice like that", i've known her for nearly 5 years and she asks that now, i didn't take it personally since yk she's like a toddler so idc. I'm not gonna say every single person i met thinks my voice is weird, cause there are people that i'm friends with that don't think negatively about my voice, but the thing is I'm so used to negativity that I think that they're lying and just wanna act nice to not hurt my feelings, I became more mean and more hateful towards other people too because of the negativity and it's just a whole rollercoaster, i'm 15 i have stuff ahead of me but thank you cause I needed this, I needed to witness someone like me to know i am not alone in this fight, to whosever is reading thank you, I appreciate you.

The singers pay millions to get this sexy voice and you wanna do a surgery !!! Your voice is similar to the singer SIA. The surgery will be your biggest mistake in life.

You’re voice still sounds good enough. If not, even vastly superior to my much more very very uglier sounding voice. That much more nasally, mixed with a bad Hispanic sounding accent that barely works in English, and too young and not so adult man sounding.

And at times often sound like I’m mouth speaking with multiple awkward cases of lag due to my throat feeling a little held back whenever I speak a prolonged sentence.
