I've had to order the Altrider high fender because the standard Honda guard couldn't handle the mud with TKC80s on. The mud packed in, the wheel locked solid, the guard ripped off its mounts and I went flying... plus it does look great.
Nice looking Africa Twin...will look even better with some more off road tyres. The crash bar set up looks super strong...great bike! Ps...probably worth getting the suspension dialled in for your height and weight, set the sag etc. Cheers, Steve
Nice to see how much clearance there is when it's down on its side. With my NC I take damage to the brake and shift foot pedals every time it's down, even with crashbars on.
That police bike is sweet. I bet they get zero work done with people stopping them in awe to ask about it.... new 2020 black bike looks great. The black bash and bars are a nice add. My concern is the new lower saddle will discourage me from standing. The knee angle on long rides... I'll know once I go for a test ride. Great review.
One other mod you should get are proper hand guards, the stock plastic ones are useless, Ive bark busters on my adventure sports, I dropped it shortly after getting it and bent the front brake lever right round, then I got the bark busters, they’ll not bend now. Ps I love the sound with the stock pipe, I’m not for changing mine. Africa Twin is a fantastic bike.
Would love to know how it is with traffic in London. I know it's not what it's designed for but I'm looking at one of these for the ride to work every day and the occasional Sunday ride

Yes exactly. Easily overlooked. Any CRF1000 that doesn't have them whilst the owner is talking about an end can makes me think he's not too bright. Function before fashion.
Cool bike, got the old Africa Twin 750 2003 but perhaps its time for an upgrade. What was the name of the 50/50 road/offroad tires he talks about (was it Metzler XX?)
Hey Gareth, my buddy and I are planning on doing a motorcycle trip (with tent) through Scotland, too! Is there any way for you to share your experiences once you've actually done the trip? Would love to see and hear more about it Greetings from Germany
Great review, great motorcycle! Honda, why does the XDV 700 Scoter have tubless rims and the African Twin does not! Come on! I want to buy an African Twin with cruise control and tubeless rims and you will sweep the adventure market! HONDA RULES!
Seat concepts single seat, barkbuster hand guards, and kriega luggage. Sc projects do a spanking titanium pipe too. Also should of brought the adventure sport it's much taller stock.
@@jimenagulla9081 I've had both and have to disagree. Eventhough the AS has more travel/clearance...the tank on the AS is huge and makes the bike harder to ride and also raises the center of gravity. The suspension can be modified on a standard AT, but you can't do anything about the gigantic tank on a AS.
Buy a OEM SEAT of Africa Twin Adventure model for a different sitting and driving experience - TKC80 Continental or Anlas Capra X for TYRES (knobbies) If I can give you an advice: buy soft bags with SW Motech frames maybe (but soft side bags only) HAVE a GOOD and awesome TRIP Adventure in a backroads/dirt 👋🏼😜 (ps. Altrider are perfect I love it and I used TOO on my Africa Twin Adv Sport)
Great bikes the Africa Twin, this one's looking good so far. I'd think twice about putting Karoo 3's on though. The latest bike from KTM the 790 Adventure R comes with them stock and all the reviews that I've read rubbish them. I was going to put them on my 1190R when I saw the new 790, not now. I'm going for Bridgestone Battlax Adventurecross AX41, check em out...
I dunno. I'm a Honda fan but this feels like an SUV. I mean all those signifiers of extreme off-roadness betrayed by tyres only suitable for a ride to the shopping mall. Changing the pipe is a terrible idea BTW.
Unfair on a machine this capable to compare it to an SUV... check out what AltRider Jeremy can do on his HAT... We discussed the tyres in the video - they are top of the next list... along with the pipe.
@@garethcharlton5030 I've seen Jeremy's AT videos and love them! He's a talented athlete and a true pro rider though and he's really showing the limits of the machine. I think most of us would be pinned under the behemoth. He also trashed it pretty well which almost seemed his intention. I'm sure Honda engineers would be wincing. The point I meant to make about the tyres is that the manufacturer doesn't doesn't actually expect that the average user will be taking it to anyplace difficult.
First time I've seen a Africa twin look small😉 cheers from dave
GS may be the bench mark but the Africa Twin is just beautiful
Cool to see how stoked he is off his AT. Congrats!
I'm 6'6"/198cm and the 30mm higher Honda seat works nicely for me with addition of 30mm bar risers.
Did you need to change the standard lines at all for the 30mm risers? Which model did you use? Cheers Mate. Gareth
Love his enthusiasm!
Gareth , your joy at owning the AT is a pleasure to view . Nice one mate. Enjoy
Cheers Capt!
Love this staff bikes series
I have 2017, that black on black on black is amazing. Cheers.
Lovely job. Anyone with a new bike watching this....the first change to make is the tyres. Get them done before you pick the bike up.
I've had to order the Altrider high fender because the standard Honda guard couldn't handle the mud with TKC80s on. The mud packed in, the wheel locked solid, the guard ripped off its mounts and I went flying... plus it does look great.
David Brough If you haven't done it already, rugged roads to a kit to lift the front mudguard higher.
Nice looking Africa Twin...will look even better with some more off road tyres. The crash bar set up looks super strong...great bike! Ps...probably worth getting the suspension dialled in for your height and weight, set the sag etc. Cheers, Steve
That's some of the best crash protection I've ever seen on a bike. Makes my Ducati's evotech bits look like a joke lol
Altrider makes the real deal. best I have seen
Nice to see how much clearance there is when it's down on its side. With my NC I take damage to the brake and shift foot pedals every time it's down, even with crashbars on.

Very nice great minds think alike bought same bike my first new bike also
In black ?
Man that thing looks heavy!
Ya, it's not a trials bike; It's a big tripping adventure bike that will crush pavement and gravel roads and still do some track in the right hands!
Would love to know how it is with traffic in London. I know it's not what it's designed for but I'm looking at one of these for the ride to work every day and the occasional Sunday ride

i too make a honda look small.. honda grom, that is
I'd have one YESTERDAY NOW TOMORROW. Send one to me:)
Get some proper hand guards on that beast. Barkbusters maybe the way to go. Those plastics will be the first things off on a drop...

DCT or clutch ? Me likee likee motor bikee ! Before I graduate to the new Africa Twin with DCT standard version the Tenere 700 will have to do .
I'd like to see one of these modded, naked, in a triumph 1200 scrambler kind of thing.
Ive seen a few they make a great looking "scrambler" im not sure if it loses any function.
Great bike
Pretty much exactly how i want mine.
Cool looking bike, I feel like a dwarf standing next to one however 🤣
If someone is that big the AT must seem like a 125. This guy has already found his unicorn bike
I love mine too! I like the look of your high fender...which one did you throw on there?
I love my altrider f700gs farkles (not sure you can call them that in the bikeshed, or on a bmw) but this is exactly how I’d have an AT
Really? The vanity plate on Sand’s PoPo project (1:45)is TKTTIME? I don’t have mixed feelings about that at all . . .
Ha! Hadn't spotted that!

Kasper Winding its a great bike. We’re looking forward to seeing it muddier! The tyres intended are Metzeler Karoo 3. You can see them at 10:38
Now to put some proper tyres on?Karoo Streets or similar.

That front fender makes it look like an Angry Bird character or a KLR. Stock looks better. Honda designers know.
guy could you please let up know stu you tube channel please
should ave gone with the adventure sport, much taller.
Karoo tyres are very noisy on tarmac so good luck with that
No bar risers. Bad idea.
Tell that to my lower back... At my height they become the only solution despite the fact people think they are compromised.
