    Nice work. I guess rivets are a good way to have runs... You managed great ! I also guess rivets won't make the polishing process easier... I think I would have insert them at the very end, after polishing...
    Thanks a lot for all your videos. They are very useful for beginners like me.

      Thanks for watching. The rivets turned out ok. The front has a slight brushed texture, which I like. I ended up only doing the sand and polish process on the back.

      Well apparently he’s been painting for 30 years haha. Somehow I get the impression it takes him a minute to figure out which end of the gun the paint comes out of.

    • @crazyuncleduke8012

      He doesn't care about which end it comes out of just as long as he can huff the nitro fumes.

      One last comment / question Brad...
      What are your plans for the finish on the neck?
      For some reason I see a maple neck and fingerboard painted the same color as the body to tie the entire paint scheme together.
      Just a thought my friend.

    It's funny how much differently the various clear coats spray.as far as spray tech. goes speed how much product is being applied and so forth. It always pays to try them out on a piece of scrap to see how wet it can be applied before it runs.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. It takes a few coats to get used to them.

  • @manickn6819
    @manickn6819 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was wondering if the clear coat would hold up on the rivets or if disbonding would start occurring at hose points. I guess time would tell. If it fails over time post so others would know how "imperfections" on the surface affect the long term durability.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will do. I don’t think it’ll be an issue though. Even if the adhesion in those areas is questionable, the clear should bridge it no problem.

    Did you put the clear on in coats or just use one paint gun reservoir full? Thanks for the videos, as always.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I put it on in 3 coats. It ended up being closer to half of the paint cup full.
      Just in case there was any confusion: I put on the 3 coats in one session. 10 minutes apart.

    Did see you mention it but did you have to scuff the paint a bit before putting on the clear?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I scuffed the base coat paint before doing the airbrushing. Then did the clear straight over that.

    Great job Brad!!!!!!!
    I make wooden rings and have used CA and friction finishes in the past , they tend to loose their shine relatively quickly due to wear and tear.....I was wondering if you have a recommendation on a more durable finish.....
    Thank you

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you tried an epoxy finish?

    • @bethesdawoodworks2314

      Brad Angove no I haven’t.......any recommendations?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m just trying to think durability. I figured a CA finish would be pretty hard, but the furniture epoxy/casting resin should be pretty much rock haha. That might be your best bet. I don’t really have any experience with the stuff personally (yet). I’ve heard good things about a company called Solarez though.

      Ok.....thank you....what about one of those guitar finishes you use?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best one for that would be a catalyzed polyurethane. It’s common on guitars, but is really the industry standard on cars at the moment.

  • @CameraEd1
    @CameraEd1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Brad, how long do you have after you mix up the poly before it sets? And what do you use to clean out the gun afterward?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve had the paint in my gun for up to about an hour with absolutely no concern about it setting. I’m not sure what exactly the pot life is, but I imagine it varies a bit depending on what clear you’re using.
      I generally clean my gun with lacquer thinner and/or methanol.

  • @EJ18C1
    @EJ18C1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Brad, newer follower, just made my way through this build series, nice work. I do quite a bit of automotive painting but I had a question for you. With a stained finish would you use a sealer before clear coat or just clear directly over the stained wood? I’m just concerned about how much its going to sink, what with wood being porous and all.
    Thanks

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Generally you would apply a sealer first. Although on a closed grained wood properly prepared a 2k clear really won’t soak in much at all.

    • @EJ18C1
      @EJ18C1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brad Angove thanks, any recommendations for a sealer?
