Just spoke with Steve, and I remember him mentioning you with the subject of.. 8 Tracks ! I won't let myself collect them or 78's. I do appreciate them and spent many hours cruising in friends cars in the 70's jamming to Grand Funk Red album for instance.. Very loud, and very fun except when the tape clicks to the next track right in the middle of Richie Blackmore's guitar solo on "Lazy" or "Highway Star" LoL !! 😆By the way.. Nice 8 Track player ! Either way.. It's too much fun collecting ! Have a great vacation, Alan
You are going to be the coolest grandpa in the neighbourhood! I'm thinking Doc from Back to the Future here. I mean come on laser discs, VHS tapes, cassettes, vinyl and 8 track! You'll blow there tiny minds.😂
hahah long live Second Coming!! I was wondering if ya caught that little mention of your 8-track love. I can appreciate & respect picking up the 8-track deck you had as youth. Speaking of which I might have a little 8-track gift for ya coming soon. enjoy the vacation, be sure to wear that Rolling Stones Official Sun Block!
Very cool Alan. Know so little about them, just fleeing memories from my mothers car. Surprised some of them are younger than I thought! Have a lovely vacation 😊
Cool collection, Living in the Past on 8trk that I have never seen before, thanks for showing. I only have CSN&Y & Grand Funk Railroad Live both took longer to switch tracks than a single LP. Had fun watching. ✌️
I loved 8 track. Used to buy blanks and record from my albums and have to time each channel to fill each track. Was so much fun. Love your collection too.
Thanks so much. Yea, I'd say 90% of my original 8-track collection was blanks that I recorded, so could listen in my car or my travelling 8-track boombox. Also recorded radio concerts all the time.
that's gotta be a good one. I've never seen that out in the wild. Never seen any Van Halen 8-tracks in the wild. Yea Herold would love that - maybe he has some Halen 8-tracks - he had at some point some weird kids device that would play 8-tracks at some point.
@@TheAlanRosenbergShow actually that toy was from late 70s and i didnt pick up those Van Halen 8-tracks until I started collecting their stuff in mid 80s. Thanks so much. It's a funny thing, as we get older, much of the old "junk" we tossed out has such an intrinsic value to us again. Brings us back to our youth, memories of my first car which had an 8-track in it and I was so happy - old friends, parents and family at that time. All ties together. Life's cycle I guess. Thanks so much again.
I still have about 30 8 tracks. Of note are Pink Floyd Animals,Ace Frehley (1st solo with Kiss Army insert), and David Bowie Low. I have the slip case with Time Fades Away tape! Great walk down memory lane.
Thanks so much. Of course Animals is a holy grail with Pigs On The Wing with the solo. I saw one in the wild, but it was beat to hell and no way it would play so I passed. I'll find one one day. Great you have one. For me with 8-tracks, much of the appeal, is looking for them out in the wild for cheap and when finding one that plays perfect - really fun. Thanks again.
I understand nostalgia of course. 🤔 I just had a birthday. And we pulled out our vinyl of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (1977). 😃 But our CD of it 📀 is easier and can go with us while driving. 🤔 I guess I might be excited about hearing the ST for SNF on 8 TRACK. 🤔 But at most, It would just be a "now and then" listen. 🤔
Thank you for a trip down memory lane :-) I remember as a kid, walking into my local K-Mart and seeing all the 8 Track tapes locked in a glass case and having an associate come open it up for you. I agree with the sound quality, they're nothing to brag about but if you grew up in the 70's, owning an 8 Track player was exciting! Curious, how much are you having to pay for these one's you're finding at your record shop? Are they as pricey as vinyl records? Enjoy your vacation!!
@@mano1971music thanks so much. I’m away on vacation but I’m finding these 8 tracks mostly at flea market and thrift stores as well as two record stores. Most have been one dollar. The Zeppelin were 3 dollars but only two of those played. I bought four zeppelin and threw two out.

I'm not sure about "punk expression of consumerism". Certainly was way before punk existed. Back then being able to have your music with you outside, anywhere required tape - cassette or 8-track - in a car or portable player...before boom boxes. I went with the big clunky 8-track over cassettes, which actually sounded pretty shitty back then. But cassettes became higher quality, smaller etc and won that war. But I always went for the underdog

@@metall1983 i believe they’re the exact same discs but the dsd is for standard cd players while of course the Sacd layer is for only sacd players. But they were the highest standard remastered discs up till now
Yea - I have so much music in my collection and so much to listen to, that the 8-tracks is like a "side-hobby". Revisiting my youth. I love the hunt, going out and finding them for cheap and I'm getting pretty good and figuring out which ones will play and which ones don't . But at this time, that's the really fun part of the re-hobby (and of course listening to them...because the songs are in different orders). But it's simply not worth my time and effort to try to fix them. 90% of them I've owned for decades on record / CD. Thanks so much.
I still regret buying 8-tracks starting in junior high and ending in high school because I had to replace just about everyone of those, and when you're making minimum wage, that's a bummer.
