Thanks for you insightful knowledge brother.
In all the overlanding and offroading channels I have learned more from you than any other channel.
Most channels are gear oriented - "buy this", "am running blue bluh bluh in the front and this in the rear and a ...."
This channel provides me with cerebral technical insights that are helpful .
In all my 46 years I didn't know the inner workings of Torsen Diff, A Trac and many more stuff.
    Thanks

You are the first (and only) channel that lists out all the differences between the 250 and 300 in detail and why they matter. extremely informative and you also make it very objective and very pleasant to hear. However, one good thing comes from the fact that they are assembled in japan, so quality and reliability is what we expect here.

    • @TrungTran-dj2nm
      @TrungTran-dj2nm ปีที่แล้ว

@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD yes apparently both the Taharah plant (which used to produce the current reliable 4runner) and the Hino plant will be producing the land cruiser. However, only the Taharah plant will be producing all the new GX's, so something about the possibly higher standard or QC of Taharah vs Hino Idk.

My 2018 Limited has it all. Within the limits of sanity (9.6 inches of clearance) it's definitely an off road vehicle.
Full time 4X, leather, JBL, Atrac,, center locker, AND.......that wonderful roll down rear window. If I buy anything......it will be the new GX........... PS......thank you for this great video. Everyone needs to watch it.........

The new “Land Cruiser “ ditches that rear fast glass for the old highlander style lift glass with embedded wiper.
      That is a cheap shot.
Looks like it belongs on a ford escape or some similar nasty crossover.
Anything on a land cruiser or a prado should look like it’s made to last.

DLewis, do you have the 20" wheels? Can you find good off-road tires for 20"? or did you get better wheels and tires? How is the Limited comfort on long trips? Compared to the new models, the 4Runner Limited seems like a good bargain for milder off road. I'm never going on those roads shown here, but some milder stuff to get to remote campsites, that's what I'm looking for.

    • @joeblack1052

@@mikecorpus1267 if you are going to encounter mud and or rocks you will need the 17s and an aggressive tire.
Just get 17 inch steelies for the limited and all terrain tires.
I have a trd sport with the 20 inch wheels and use 17 steels and winter tires in winter.
The limited and sport are still 4 runners with low range and alltrac

I call it my poor man's Land Cruiser. Yes, 20 in tires. Not a problem. I tackled some tough terrain. Even when just using the center locker, it's been great. I've only had to use the Atrac once...and, it works.
Here in New Mexico I sometimes drive over 150 miles at a time.......the JBL sound is fantastic, the front seats are cooled and "on the road" is smooth and comfy.......I would hate to give up my siding back window...........it's one of the things I love about this generation.......... It's a keeper........

Great job explaining this. Love the NPC comment. The TH-camrs are well groomed and controlled by Toyota. Here's a "press" vehicle for a week and a couple of invites a year to events now don't say anything negative about Toyota. The issues the Tundra has had has been kept quiet on TH-cam for the most part. These guys should be asking how this new 2.4 turbo hybrid will be reliable when the 3.44 tt has had multiple issues.

I agree with you 100%. This is why I purchased a 2021 Lexus LX 570 so I can have the full Land Cruiser experience in COMFORT. I also want to purchase the 2023 Lexus GX 460. I had a 2018 Lexus GX 460 and I loved it, I don’t believe in turbos I don’t believe in hybrids I don’t believe in electric I am a V-8 person all the way in some cases I’ll take a V6 as long as they don’t have turbos in my opinion I think the 2021 LX 570 and the 2023 GX 460 can last 20 or 30 years and that’s what I’m hoping for at least to get 10 to 20 years out of it and I know I could do that… can you do a video explaining the LX 600 versus the LX 570? In my opinion I think the LX 570 blows the LX 600 away what do you think? And will you do a video on that please? Please let me know if you can do that your videos are outstanding. They are all about the truth and not subjective. They’re very objective and that’s what I appreciate. Thank you for pointing out what you do because I will tell you I will never buy a Land Cruiser unless it’s a Land Cruiser 200 or 300 actually just 300 because the Land Cruiser 200 is like my LX 570 but I’m gonna be honest the LX 570 and Lexus is much better than the Land Cruiser 200 I’ve driven both and I will tell you the Lexus blows it away… thank you again for your videos they were outstanding🇺🇸🇯🇵❤️🤍💙

It’s the new Land Cruiser Prado in many countries like Australia. The Prado name is definitely not dead. In Europe the Prado was only called Land Cruiser and this new version of Land Cruiser Prado is still going to be called Land Cruiser in Europe and now in the US they l believe made the mistake of calling it Land Cruiser when the US had the previously available 200 series Land Cruiser. They should of called it Land Cruiser Prado or Land Cruiser 250 like in Japan so to avoid the criticism of this new Land Cruiser being directly compared to the previous available Land Cruiser the 200 series.

Apparently people are excited about “less”, thanks for being in the know. I AM a Toyota fan but disappointed in what this is, a Landcruiser by name only. In time lots of companies come to live off their name or past performances, just really sad to see Toyota do this. They used to stand for something and build purpose built vehicles. Their quality was legendary. Only Jeep has remained true to its roots but then there is the quality……🙄

If you look at the Prado 250 as a 4dr retro Land Cruiser/2nd gen FJ Cruiser, its probably great it almost everything. The new 4runner will be the fortuner. Look at it like a new "Land Cruiser" then it's a total disappointment. Unless the 250 Prado price diff is huge, and gets way better mpg than GX, and you don't need to tow much of anything, then the GX 250 is definitely the way to go.

The wheel base has been standard on the 80 series through 300. Just because vehicles is based on the same platform, does not mean they're the same, ie. 2nd gen Tundra/Sequoia/200 series share the same base, but have lots of differences. The new "land cruiser" is a prado, quite literally, outside of powertrains, options, rhd, etc... aka the baby land cruiser, or light weigh, the 80, 100, 200, 300, LX models are medium duty, and 70 series is HD. Toyota should've just put the correct nameplate on it (prado 250), and not try to pull the wool over American's eyes with this faux "land cruiser" nameplate, kinda like with all the fj cruiser fanboy yuppies, who actually thought they had a Land Cruiser, but don't actually know the differences. It looks good, but 3500lbs. Less towing, that's definitely not medium duty. Just call it what it is. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado.

Yeah for the price it has a lot of good features and let's be honest Toyota couldn't sell the land cruiser 200 in America with all the features at that super high price point. Moving the full land cruiser experience to Lexus makes sense TBH because that crowd will pay for it.

@@Gemini_0815 Good point but.....Its simple not possible to satisfy the every want/need of Toyota/off-road enthusiasts and that's fine. If you watch and listen to the last three or so weeks of this channels video's you get a pretty good idea of what individuals might be mildly disappointed about. You also get some of the positives as well. The Lexus J30 needs a Toyota badge that says Land Cruiser on it. The problem is the market for this vehicle in the USA is not the small subset of Land cruiser enthusiast. Its the larger subset of upscale SUV Lexus enthusiast that are not purchasing the vehicle for off-roading/overlanding. Its all just conversation at this point though as the USA market land cruiser is not even released yet.

@@FatalAnimal the real Land Cruiser is sold in the US as the Lexus LX600.
The issue is passing this new vehicle as land cruiser returns, when it is really the land cruiser 250 or Prado.
Which in current models was sold as the GX460 and 4Runner.
Which means the current 4Runner limited has similar spec to this land cruiser and actually the 4.0L V6 which is used in the 70 series in some markets, makes it more of a land cruiser than this new “thing” and it’s cheaper.

The items that have been omitted are minor at best. The things the new land cruiser gets far outweigh the things they did not elect to offer. for instance, a front sway bar disconnect offers improved articulation in the front IFS which has always been a short coming compared to a jeep with a live axle in the front. The Jeep will likely still outperform in terms of articulation despite having a fixed rear sway bar, the on-road dynamics are far inferior. Furthermore, the other vehicle with IFS and a sway bar, the bronco, is incredibly capable again with a fixed rear sway bar. The KDSS represents an overly complicated system that is a potential failure point. the sway bar disconnect system is simpler and likely more reliable in the long run.
As far as a front locker, that's just not that important. I have front lockers on a jeep Rubicon, I have only needed them once maybe twice. a rear locker and a center locker absolutely. The land cruiser has both plus ATRAC. that will be more than capable for 99% of situations and likely 100% if one knows how to drive. Same with MTS a nice aid for novice drivers, however, form more experienced drivers not as big of a deal. and as far as the suspension again an overly complicated expensive to maintain and or repair system is not helpful for off roading. I would trade robustness and reliability over an electronically controlled system any day of the week, don't believe me ask anyone that drives king of the hammers. no electronic suspensions there. they instead rely on bypass shocks and other mechanical means. super reliable and very very robust.
As far as the interior being not on par with previous land cruiser, this may be true, it may not. the fact remains the land cruiser failed to sell in the US when the price ballooned to 90K+. Toyota to make the Land Cruiser successful needed to get back to basics. A mechanically robust, over built vehicle that can take you anywhere you ever wanted to go in comfort. I think they likely succeeded in that. Time will tell and I for one am looking forward to experiencing it myself.

This sums up exactly how I feel too. It's a good set of features for the price point and honestly the features that most people don't care about are what got taken out. I personally prefer the land cruiser interior over the Lexus which sounds crazy but I like utilitarian and simple. Nice clicky buttons that hard surfaces that don't let you down is what I love. In that regard it's more like the 70 series which I love.

    • @jasondante313
      @jasondante313 ปีที่แล้ว

I completely agree with these statements! I feel that some people will always find something to complain about. The sales of the last Land Cruiser sold in the states was super low. True Land Cruiser was simple, well built and utilitarian design. I think Toyota did a very good job, going back to a more simple design with a lot of modern updates. 200 & 300 series Land cruiser owners are not the same customers that this vehicle will appeal to.
