nah bruh it goes to the almighty shareholder... BUT not in Japan. They care about their own people.
Americans are the guinea pigs + cash cows of the world. America is a business park. We pay the most for drugs, unhealthy food additives that our own companies can't sell to foreigners but can pump into us to eek out more returns for shareholders, don't even get me started on houses.

Absolutely brilliant explanation. Makes me feel better and better about investing in a 22 GX460. I drove that LC250 and the engine was screaming the entire time, you could tell it wasn't built to last. Americans love trading in their cars fancy new tech and screens, my gut tells me in 5 years that LC250 will be worth less than half of what my GX460 will.

It's literally the same as what the much more costly and complicated and not as time tested 2.4 is quoted to do. Everyone wants to blame the government regs but they shouldn't forget toyota is also taking them for a ride and pocketing the money. Diesel straight six, not V6..... Seven main bearings Vs four. All industrial / commercial six cylinder diesels are inline for a reason. Inherent balance (no need for balance shafts like V6)
seven main bearings supporting a far more robust crankshaft. V6 engines exist for only 2 reasons, packaging space, and commonality on production line with other V type engines.

DOA is a pretty good assessment of the situation. For decades Toyota sold us on reliability, and then they took that away, charged us more, and thought no one would notice. The irony is that the powertrain changes were supposedly done to improve fuel economy but +1 mpg of difference for all of that? Giant failboat.

This is true, if you compare the v4 turbos with out going 1GR-FE, there's only one mpg of difference. I don't know if I blame toyota, but instead blame more the politics of America. All this green, anti fossil fuel bs is what is driving it imo.

    • @GXMAN16

Who told you they are to improve fuel economy, they first and foremost changed to adhere to new federal mandates, Toyota had no choice, otherwise we would still have the old engines for another 15 years. New drivetrains make up to double the power while retaining same or improved mpg even if its +1. The new TT V6 is making close to 500hp and 600ft/lbs of torque.

@@GXMAN16 Certain 4Runner owners have been complaining for years about the fuel economy of this car. Toyota finally relented. As far as federal greenhouse gas emissions standards if you read it it is very vague about C02 emissions, and even doesn't take effect until 2027. With Trump in office, it may even get reversed like the EV mandate did. Besides, Nissan's doing just fine with their naturally aspirated V6s so I don't see how Toyota was forced to do anything this year.

Automotive engineering student here. The EPA is to blame with most vehicles becoming unreliable now a days in 2011 a car can put out 180kg of CO2/100kms now its less than half of that and oil manufacturers are also forced to remove the molybdenum that protects engines as it damages catalytic converters. Toyota got away with this by adding piston wall coating and extra oil control rings but when they wear off they start to burn oil. The viscosity of 5w30 oil vs 0w20 and 0w16 is so minimal in the thousands that manufacturers rather sell you on the 0w20 for better gas mileage when in reality is so minimal it doesn’t matter yet when your car starts to burn oil they say go thicker? The second reason and we are to blame for this customers. We live in the “look at me” generation where everyone wants to show a brand new product they got online, the cause of this lowered the life cycle of electronics, clothing products and cars. The lowest lease you can get now is 3 years! Manufacturers are then forced to keep up with demand to keep interest and end up releasing vehicles without testing everything but we do a FEA analysis in both CATIA and SOLIDWORKS. its theoretical and doesnt take consideration of climate and environment..

I would say from experience daily offroad in New England/Canada the new ‘Yotas are not as impervious to the elements as previous generations, but I’m an extremely small test sample. Following my GX460 into a river, my friends new 550 started taking on water through the trunk and rear door seal, something that doesn’t occur on my 460.
When we addressed the issue we noticed the seals became a bit loose from flexing over some rocks in the water and caused it to enter. Now his power trunk and seat controls are out, along with his speedometer screen.
Once again I’m a small test case and his is a 2025, but fording through water almost daily my 2020 460 has never allowed water to ingress.
Maybe they need to make the Overtrail a little more basic as my GX460’s manual barn door has never failed me.
*I always have trust in Toyotas engineers though, and I imagine they’ll address these issues

Here’s a question for you Admin, what car would you get if money was no issue? I have friends with Mercedes-Benz G550/ G63 AMG’s, Jeeps, Fords of all kinds, Lexus GX and LX’s, and more and it seems like the GX and the LX are the best bang for the buck at the moment. Sadly it seems like the reliability while still good isn’t what it used to be. And now as a buyer looking for a new car it’s like, where do you go if you want reliability and off road capability/ robustness? Is the LX700h Overtrail our saving grace? Or do you think that hybrid powertrain will also have bugs since it’s the same twin turbo V6 from the Tundra/ Sequoia fiasco?

a fantasy vehicle would be a Landcruiser 300GRS with the approach angle corrected to at least 39 degrees like on the old 1996 Rav4. In reality, a Lexus 700h OT _with_ e-kdss would do too... neither choice exists in [American] reality, so LX700hOT is the closest... if nothing fits, then simply don't buy... wait til they get it right... curious as to what the next gen Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon will be like though....

Totally nailed it. It really is the new Malaise era. Most people don't care, they buy the brand name image. Look at modern Land Rover people🤣🤣🤣 Wayyy back in their history, the old Rover company built some of the best 4WDs ever made, Then , Toyota got in the game and did the same thing, earning and maintaining a reputation for solidly built simple reliable vehicles that did exactly what people needed them to do. Later, things got fancy, but with Toyota, the excellence was maintained. With Rover, the image from the glory days of the 1950's and 1960's kept selling vehicles long after the quality had gone away...... Now, Decades later, I'm afraid Toyota has watched all the profits that Land Rover has made selling luxury junk and sadly following that path at last..... Bummer..

Toyota has become very dependent on the lower end consumers (example, our 4th Gen Tacoma) chasing aftermarket parts to “decorate their costume”. The “all ARB everything” top tier 4th Gen Tacoma models exposed Toyota’s playbook of putting vehicles on “cost diets” … feeding directly into the (whichever six types of offroader they are) industrial complex.

    • @chrisvoncannon8939
      @chrisvoncannon8939 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

@ Absolutely, demonstrated by poor compatibility of their own Toyota-branded accessories. We have exactly four accessories on our 4th Gen Tacoma: bed step, bed mat, bed divider, and hard tri-fold bed cover. Installation of the bed cover lowered the factory bed rail 1/2” rendering the Toyota bed divider physically impossible to use with the Toyota bed mat. It’s absolutely a “first world problem” so the divider got the boot; we would have expected far better compatibility of products all bearing the Toyota brand…but for the lower echelon TNGA platforms Toyota has farmed out production to companies like Bakflip who are left unchecked when it comes to Toyota brand accessory compatibility.

As a Japanese living in North America since 2007, the 5th gen was the only North American market 4x4 I trusted to use for my offroad adventure needs. I'm not looking for a turbo 4 cylinder hybrid, with no front bumpstops in a heavy body-on-frame vehicle, especially that uses a fullsize heavy platform. Also, I think the 6th gen is ugly and looks too American... Oh wait.. Toyota USA designed it lol. I'll use the GX550 for 2 or 3 years, then I am going to import a classic Toyota Land Cruiser. I paid Toyota tax in the past, for Toyota durability and reliability. If Toyota isnt that anymore, why would i pay outrageous Toyota tax on a car that no longer holds that quality that attracted consumers to them in the first place? At this point if i needed a truck, I'd go towards Nissan who still offers a N/A powertrain. If i needed a car/SUV, id go towards mazda which has made big strides in reliability over the last decade. Toyota, has gotten comfortable. I don't support their lack of ambition to continue to be the best in terms of reliability.

The 6th Gen TRD OR Premium is $55K, but it has more power, more gears, up-to-date interior and tech, and more refined offroad goodies (quiet ATRAC and CRAWL). It is better than the 5th Gen in every way, save for the unproven turbo-4. The 2025 TRD Pro, for example, blows the 5th Gen TRD Pro out of the water in terms of power, amenities, comfort, etc.; so yeah, it will cost you. Is the new Pro worth $10K more than the old Pro? Most people just want the snorkel, roof rack, angry lights, and are willing to pay the massive markup for all those cheapy psuedo offroad attatchments contributing to toyotas incentive to make crummier platforms for trucks. But fanboys will still buy these trucks with poor offroad numbers (ground clearance, articulation) and say "they're 99% as capable as jeeps and will last 1000x longer" just making the market worse for _ALL_ truck makers not just toyota, because of lack of competition from having such a low bar of standards. People have been reduced to thinking toyota badge equals reliability and accessories equal offroad prowess. I really want to see better from toyota even though I'll never buy one anyway.
