i feel like, unless they do a lot for balance, an ultimate deluxe just wouldnt have as much strength as ult the meta just isnt fun, and if people see ult deluxe and see the meta is even mostly the same im not sure how many people would come back like, the 'fun to play characters that should be toptier' like marth, fox, sheik or mario are all mostly mid or hightier at best, and the meta mostly revolves around stuff like steve blocks, game and watch camping, or other 'this isnt very interesting to watch or fight but you cant punish it so it is what it is' gameplans and it just isnt very appealling id much rather lose to someone like marth who just gets a lot off of neutral wins than someone like ultimate sonic who half the roster just cant touch without putting themselves in an awful position
funnily enough, ultimate was at its best at early meta when joker, pichu and ike were at the top, because even if they were overtuned losing to them still felt like you were getting outplayed
I really loved the meta toward the beginning of the game as well. Lucina, Pichu, Wario, Joker were all so fun to watch. I would hope that Ult Deluxe would have some major changes to everyone, making it more enticing for Ult players to get Deluxe since it would be so vastly different.
@@retroreviews_ i have been thinking that if they added a small handful of new mechanics to the game that just heavily favored actually interacting (maybe bringing back DACUS, cutting the endlag of directional airdodge enough to make it a viable movement option (at least unstaled), giving parrying a universal frame advantage buff so its more risky to have predictable/walling offense, or some other things) itd be a big enough basic mechanic shakeup to jumble up the tierlist by itself add a single, heavy patch note compared to ultimate and youve basically got a fresh game

The deluxe is awesome on paper, but not on execution. We don't need like 100 something characters when we don't even play half of the roster. As for patches, I wouldn't rely on them too much. They are all going to stay the same when we should be seeing something new that's not already in the game like a new gameplay, and new online mode. Having new characters isn't going to fix anything. Master Chief will just be another Samus, but more cancer. Beside, Bungie is already tearing up the series with Halo infinite. Also if the switch 2 have backward compatibility, I don't see why Nintendo will make a deluxe.
Yeah, unless the patches are pretty radical, characters will stay the same more or less. More characters would be cool - I just want Crash 😭 but that opens up a new can of worms if any of the new characters end up more overpowered than what we already have.
True, but just know that out of all the dlc characters there were only 3 overpowered characters, and for some reason every other character that we been wanting for a long time are either garbage, or they are Sora to where everyone hates him, because it's not what they vision Sora to be, or they are lucky to be good characters. My point is to be careful what you wish for.

I think we should keep riding the Ultimate wave. Building upon Smash 5 could even just be updating the game without the need for a rerelease via Switch 2’d backwards compatibility. Nintendo is known to surprise and innovate so they could do that this time by not only updating Ultimate but also giving veteran fighters another kit and let players choose if they want to use the old or new kit for those fighters (Ganondorf gets an Ocarina of Time kit, Young Link gets a get specific to Majora’s Mask, etc).

I agree with your opinion. I’ve kind of grown a tad bit tired of the same game for 7 years. I recently modded my switch so I added lots of fun & goofy characters but it’s only a matter of time before the gameplay feels same-y once again.
Oh nice! Mods are always so cool. But I totally agree, that only goes so far. They would have to do some substantial changes (and likely add a new mechanic or two) to make it have any longevity.
If I could choose I'd go for Ultimate Deluxe with more echo fighters and maybe *un-mii costuming* some missed characters into actual characters. Skull kid is the menu icon for making mii characters in silent acknowledgement of just how badly people wanted that character. Isaac and Rex are right up there too. Then on top of it give us more unique quasi-new character skins for existing characters that don't really deserve a full echo variant (eg. - Big Boss skin for Snake, Zack for Cloud). Actually balance the characters this time, drop the BS overpowered DLC character mechanics (eg. make steve's blocks work like platforms, not solid blocks from every side & drop the whole random draw for Hero and just give him a static 5 or 6 options to choose from every time with a cool down period for each individual skill). And for the love of sakurai, give Mac and Ganondorf a viable recovery and a bit less raw power. Asymmetrical balance only works to the extent that they are actually balanced in terms of results. Give Sonic something literally other than spin dash to flesh out his kit and slow him down just enough so he's just barely faster than everyone else, but not so fast he can play infinite keep-away. This would allow them to add very few truly new characters (maybe Waluigi and ~3 others since they would de-mii costume a few other characters to do with it) and allow them to give us more and better replayable single player content. The 3DS smash run should definitely return. And we don't need a whole Subspace Emissary 2, but give us a something more meaningful and meatier than spirit battles aka something more replayable than random stat/stage modifiers.
Love this comment, it's super insightful! I didn't even think about making blocks more like platforms that you can run through - that's brilliant. My fix would have been only being able to place a block if there's one below it, and now more blocks offstage, but I like yours better. More echoes would be really cool! I assumed they'd have an echoes fighter pass but I guess they didn't see the value there.
@@retroreviews_ Thanks. I do not get why they didn't give us premium echo fighter dlc. Who WOULDN'T buy Shadow the Hedgehog or Tails or Jin Kazama or any off the remaining Belmonts (Trevor & Juste come to mind) or Ravio as a Link echo? And finally give us a classic villain like Skull Kid who so many people wanted. Agahnim is cool, so is Vaati, but Skull Kid is the most beloved.
The "Smash Ultimate Deluxe" idea isn't that expensive when you consider how much people already spent. $60 for the base game, $25 for fighter pass 1, and $30 for fighter pass 2, so $115 in total, or at least it was for me because I didn't buy Mii costumes. So if a Smash Ultimate Deluxe were to be $70 then that's already $45 cheaper for the same amount of content, how much more they would add to give it that "deluxe" treatment i'm not sure but it likely wouldn't be a lot. I also imagine IF they make any more DLC for the game it would be a small amount, being that the game is so highly packed with content already. But regardless it would still be a great deal, hell Smash Ultimate before DLC was honestly pretty packed for a $60 game. But I believe I read somewhere that, according to Sakurai, a smash game like this could never happen again, considering how difficult it was to accomplish due to licensing and other such factors.
That's a good point! With all the DLC tied in it isn't that big of an investment. I think because a game of this scale couldn't be followed up, a Deluxe version makes the most sense.
I think if they go with the Smash 6 option I would love to see a Power Stone style arena fighter. I think it would justify having a smaller roster and set the stage for more games in the future. It would be cool if they did both styles of games like with DBZ having the 2D budokai and 3D tenkaichi games.
I did see that, but I think he said they wouldn't be able to do another with the same scale. Nintendo wouldn't just sit on a huge-selling property like Smash if they could be making money on it. I imagine a deluxe version makes the most sense profit-wise.
