I bought some curly kale for the first time, a while back and followed the advice on the package. It was as tough as anything, so much so that I stopped eating it. There was no mention of removing the leaves from the stalks, or massaging it. Definitely worth giving it another go!
Bro, a ton of the vitamins inside the kale were washed away when you massage in water. Wash the kale thoroughly before you massage, drain/dry in a salad spinner, put back in empty pot, add olive oil, sea salt, lemon juice, and massage. A lot of the vitamins in kale are water soluble and wash right away the way you did it. Just FYI!!

A great way to keep that green water would be to soak your kale in apple cider vinegar water or you can use distilled vinegar and salt (coarse). I am not sure if you know but kale and spinach are vegetables that have the highest pesticide residue on them. look it up. But if you do what they did and squish (“massage”) the kale like that without washing it you might not want to keep the water. So I advise, wash your kale thoroughly first. The water that comes off of them when you rinse them should be clear. Then you can massage your kale! Happy Kale eating!
