When i reffed I’d tell people if you swing and miss it’s still a red. In this case, if you swing, miss and the guy acts like he’s going to die... you still get a red.
You’re right as the law literally states that striking or attempting to strike an opponent is an act of violent conduct and therefore a red. There doesn’t have to be contact, just intent.
I'm not sure why you are using controversial?! The white jersey player turn and throws a punch, should have been a straight red card no questions asked....
Coz he probably got sent off for a punch in the face. There was no punch. It was an open handed slap that hit the other fella on the back (watch it at 25% speed). It's still a red for the attempt but the 'victim' was holding his face before the slap landed.
@@gerardsavage1145 I see no difference, slap or punch, it's a violent behaviour and well deserved straigh red anyway. And how can you tell that ref thought it was a punch.
@@bababaysmith Because it looked like a punch and the fella lay on the ground like he'd just been felled by a haymaker. Not a huge leap to assume that's what the ref thought. That was a straight red i think they wanted a foul from the strong challenge made before the counter attack cause if that was given there wouldn't have been thag red card
The guy in the blue holding the guy in the white? If that's the case, kinda weird the guy in blue grabbed the guy in white since blue was on the counter.
For anyone who can't see, like some of the previous commentators apparently, this is what happens:- • The blue player pulls the white players sleeve • The white player throws his elbow back and looks to make contact with the blue players face • The white player turns and hits the blue player on the torso. Correct decision would be:- • Free kick to white team • Yellow card for blue player • Red card for white player.
No. The blue player didn't do anything definitively wrong. The white player was intentionally obstructing his run the entire time and any tug is likely illusory if that.
I would have pulled a red too, know it wasn't a punch but still enough for a red, even in the last min. He deliberately makes an aggressive force toward the opponent, causing a stoppage of progression. Red card first, middle, and last min of the game in my book.
Looked like 2 decent teams 'knocking' the ball around, afew tired legs given the OT, when your no 21 man steps up with an attempted knock out. Cheap shot and the spit at the end is something you just don't get taught as a kid.
that punch never landed but of course the player has to go down as if the punch did connect. again, the spot of soccer is littered with bad actors who try to gain an advantage by cheating. play the game the right way or not at all
This all could have been avoided if the referee called obstruction on 21 white first when he did it. The ball was not within playing distance and he (21 white) impleaded the blue player first before the blue player ran up the back of 21 white.
Perhaps even if the referee called the foul as the white player blocking and not allowing for the other player to play, the white player would perhaps still have time to punch the blue player while the referee was blowing the whistle
Explain whats controversial. If a player strikes or attempts to strike another player they are instantly sent off. The player that got punched should of got a yellow for holding.
I don’t know why most people in the comments are saying it was definitely a red. The guy was slightly annoyed and turned and with really no force, slapped the dude openhanded on the back. I’ve seen players get away w way worse and I mean I get why he got a red but ref reacted too much with the crowd as most of you have.
There is absolutely no controversy here at all. Whether the slap/punch made contact is irrelevant, it's violent conduct and an obvious red card. The only controversy would have been if no red card was shown.
As soon as you raise your hands, that’s intent to do harm: miss or not. Just because someone’s aim is so poor they miss a punch aswell as the ball doesn’t give them a by. It’s a straight red all day every day
