I was lucky enough to own an M12 GTO-3 in 2005-6 why did I sell it.. the 2.5 was 310BHP(M12 GTO) the 3.0 352BHP (M12GTO-3 and 3R) in standard format.425BHP in the M400(over 400BHP per ton) I seem to recall Cosworth and Roush Engineering helped with the engine development at the time. Ah yes, I've seen pistons looking like this on my old M12. The root cause was a crack in the intercooler. Then the car would be parked outside, and shit would end up getting washed into the intercooler and then sucked into the engine. Also, the charge pipes would get really hot and can get blown off, meaning lots of unfiltered air would get run into the engine.
I ended up with hard pipes and far fewer silicone pipes in my engine bay. After doing this I managed to get 100K on the engine without any issues.
The 2.5L is a really nice motor, Lee never wanted to use the 3.0L but it was very hard to source the 2.5L engine when he was developing the 3R.

Guess you already know but ST220 was the 3.0 V6 in the Mk3 Mondeo, the 2.5 was used in the earlier Mondeos, Cougars etc. Base was circa 170 brake & there was the ST200 which was the upgraded version in the limited run Mk2 Mondeo still 2.5L capacity with breathing mods. The 3.0 motors used very different inlet manifold configuration plus lots of ancillary chsnges. Thereare jag versions of both engines which had lots of detail differences including variable valve timing. Neat engines.
looking at that damage id susspect a sparkplug cracked when servicing the engine and a piece a porcelain fell in the engine, seen it alot on the plugs without the crush washers

Great video, it’s good to watch a disassembly video where you can see each step clearly. I’ve just watched 6 videos today on changing a disco TDV6 inlet manifold / cam cover as need to do one and every one on tube is shot from a shit angle and doesn’t go step by step. Keep up the detail mate 👍

That right elbow still looks nasty mate..Took the skin and then some right off...Ouch !
On the LIM, Noble took out the butterfly valves and filled the holes that the bar went through. These can come out and fall into the engine so make sure they are ok. Also if they have come out then find a way to block them.
We used to build the 3.0ltr version at work years ago (no longer do them). Used to tell you in the ECH to put a small strip of Loctite 5910 in the keyway of the damper when fitting, not saying it hasnt got a leak but it sometimes pushes out behind the damper bolt washer 👍🏼 Looking forward to seeing the rebuild 😊 Keep up the great work on the channel....fave channel by far 👍🏼

May be worth looking out for a 3.0 ST220 engine given how far your going with the build.
Agreed the 3.0 st220 engine is a better base
The 2.5 was in the st24 and st200
Mazda kl2.5 would be a good choice-nearly 300 bhp in n/a form for mondeo touring cars in their day-cnc heads are available(ric wood)plus twin turbskies,modern turbo control,etc-the world is your lobster👌🏻

You need some weighted sockets! They work wonders on ridiculously tight crank pulley bolts!

Surely you can cut off the bolt holes for the power steering in that engine mount as you'll not need them any more, then it'll slide right out!
You're in this deep, may as well say F it and go for a 3 liter block. From what I can tell the difference between the regular Duratec 30 SE engine and the ST220 was simply tune and intake box / exhaust flow improvements (which doesn't matter in the Noble) to get the extra 20 hp with zero difference with internals. I don't know how common those motors are in the UK but they are likley sub $500 for one in the states.
Do u dowel the manifold to the head before porting for a good match?

Every Noble that's suffered catastrophic det has always been on the middle piston on the front bank...

You can protect the deck face (or any surface) with 1-2 layers of quality duct tape and trim excess with new razor or knife blade. Just don't shoot the stream directly at it and you can lower pressure when going around edges. Try it on a scrap cylinder head or a flat piece of metal. But I would be more concerned about how to get and make sure the water jacket is clean (oil galley plugs you are going to remove for cleaning anyway, right?), because in my experience the glassbeads can be hard to clean out behind corners.

Got the 3.0 Jaguar version in one of my cars, great engine. Nice to see what the internals look like, the deepest i have gone is the vacuum pipe in the v on mine.
What about a Toyota MR2 mk3 electrohydraulic power steering pump, to retain the feel of the hydraulic rack?
ricky i think wiseco and diamond may make pistons for the 2.5 v6 otherwise go with cp if they can get you some made quick scoured the net you could try looking for contour performance parts hope this helps maybe upgrade it to a 3.5L twin turbo ecoboost engine?cheers from down under

4:20 - they are Duratecs and it came in the Mondeo Ghia X, ST24 and ST200. The ST220 was a 3.0.

Those marks in the cylinder and pock marks on the piston and head look a lot like what happens when an RGV 250 drops a powervalve
Probably more expensive on an RGV these days. I loved them but haven’t worked on one in years.
