However, I do think it's harsh to apply it retrospectively, it would be fairer to only apply the new BIK rule to new purchases from 6th April '25.
BIK on company cars has always been unfair on those people who must drive for the job, I worked all over the country as a trainer travelling in a company car on which I paid tax, couldn’t do the job without the car as I carried my own kit. Employer wouldn’t allow the twin cab pickup owing to the fuel consumption. Solution in the end was to have the cash instead of a car and run my own, I bought the company car off the lease company and ran it for 4 years, saved a bundle on tax. Most folks I met with the twin cab pick up only had it as a tax saving measure, sadly won’t look so smug next year.
I think it’s unbelievable and a stupid thing to do. It’ll kill the truck sales in this country and potentially affect many economy. All the best Brett.
I had pickups as company cars until covid when work got rid of all the company cars. For me it was perfect. I work on construction sites and it could get me and the tools where i had to work and kept the smells out the cab for the drive home. With a van you couldnt do that, they would ground out or get stuck, so youd have to carry your kit from the car park in several trips. Sometimes people would try to steal it. I also have to carry heavy parts, around 700kg, they were perfect for that. Load with forklift or hoist. I also had to tow plant which they could do. No they werent as comfortable as an suv and didnt drive as nicely as a car but they were perfect for the job i did. No way i would be paying the new bik amount just to do my job. Another reason why people cant afford to work. We only have pool vehicles now and we have several different types to do what one vehicle used to do. You just take the one you need. Long term there is going to be noone left to pay their tax increases. We will all be begging them for hand outs which i think is where they want us.
Double cab vehicle alot for show for some, opposed to actually being used. Have you seen the BYD Shark ? Range extender pickup vehicle. Maybe they will bring to UK market
In what way?? A farmer will almost exclusively use it as a WORK machine ONLY. If it’s not for personal errands then it doesn’t incur BIK, you get no added “benefit” from it. Farmer still gets to do his farm shit. If Mr or Mrs farmer want to down the local, then they’d take a practical “car” for the purpose.
Hi Jimbo new government same old hammer anybody who has the audacity to drive ant type of vehicle I wonder if the would be so keen if they had to pay for their use of government chauffer driven cars mind I suppose they're to busy filling out their expenses 🤬🤬🤬
The chanceller stated that there was not taxation of working people, directly ther may not be until we look at the increase in car tax (BIK) but the employers increase in NI will push up food prices and also council tax just to mention 2 areas.
The difference out of your monthly pay packet is huge. I mean there's looking for a little extra here and there from us, but that hike in tax could bankrupt a family. I can't see employers selling the vehicle to help their employees out any time before a lease is up either. Just awful !!
To be honest and yes there's bad driving everywhere in all classes of vehicles I'd say pickups have the highest majority I've ever seen of these vehicles bullying other drivers. Mud sadly sticks. Excuse the pun. Cheers
You just pay tax on it like a car. I prefer double cabs than cars and SUVs. We carry a lot of camping equipment, paddle boards, materials, and go green laning, a pickup is ideal for us. I don't have a company and just buy them new as my own personal vehicles. Once you drive a pickup, you won't go back. They are so practical!
Stupid tax... When it comes to tow a 3T5 trailer to export my cars to France, we don't have a lot of choices ! Especially when your are not a multimillion company.
One important omission from your report, the rule changes from April 2025 only apply to new purchases or leases. Existing vehicles will not be affected until the lease ends or April 2029, which is the final cut off date.
They’ve completely bypassed the fact that nothing on the uk market is comparable to pick up truck for towing! And the double cab becomes somewhere to keep your tools dry/locked safe. Wasn’t labour for the working class? Seems like this budget has hit us the most!!
Will I be affected by this being self employed and leasing the pickup? I claim the payment as a cost against tax but will have to change plans if this new tax affects that. Any ideas?
Next thing they need to do is to get commercial vehicles out of residential areas over night. Sick of seeing big vans stuffed in to domestic drives and worse still on the road way too close to junctions.
Does this only change how they are viewed for tax purposes. Or across the board? For example, previously certain banks would not provide vehicle loans/finance for commercial vehicles to private owners. Will they recognise the governments move on this and allow customers to purchase these vehicles themselves. And ergo skipping the BiK tax. The downside being that those who would deduct the VAT now longer can do so?
Not a tax dodge, working people playing by the rules; nothing dodgy about it. Don’t forget that plenty use them for work to generate VAT and other forms of tax. If you want milk, don’t put a tax on cows.
I buy new pickups as my own personal vehicles, and I pay tax obviously. I really hope these changes in the law don't cause manufacturers like Isuzu to pull out of the UK market.
@ sorry fella, I should be more clear. There are 3 model designations for 4wd Pickups in UK. 1.Single Cab 2. Dual Cab and 3. Extra Cab or Extended Cab. I am asking what is the rule on this 3rd model option of Extra Cab? The extra cab actually comes with 4 seat belts but you wouldn’t really use it to carry passengers. But its excellent for locking away your precious cargo like power tools. So is the Extra cab model exempt from these new Hmrc regulations?
I could be wrong, but I think this only applies if you go for an all singing, all dancing, fully loaded top of range pickup truck. Basically, a car. If you buy a box standard basic steel wheel "commercial" truck and prove it is just a work horse, the extra tax shouldn't be to pay.
I read somewhere that if you purchased before April 2025 transitional tax applies. Is this for the employer or employee ? i.e. employer for capital allowances and employee for BIK ?
This just makes running a small company harder again what will be taxed next Ur uniform I can't believe the way they think this going to give growth to this country they have to realise that more productivity from the people who drive these trucks means more revenue which means more tax in other ways they will get the money in the end but in a fair way they will be taxing Ur hair next I'm lucky I have none
1000kg wasn’t always a thing, when it came in I think the defender was one of the few (or maybe the only) that was eligible, then the Japanese just repeated their navarra’s etc and what happened, a field full of pickups with broken backs
How on earth am I ment to get work in the forest with the machines fuel ,parts spares ,o I forget I'm ment to use public transport this government at a bunch of fools 👆
Just because someone you know use it to get a bit of a break from the tax man, does not mean everyone is doing it. People use them for work plan and simple. This budget has done everything to destroy the people who make jobs and push the prices up for the people who buy stuff. Either part arw a different cheek of the same arse hole.
We just had poachers on the farm and we were visited by the police in a double cab truck will they pay tax on it as it’s for there job same as anyone els
I'm going to be honest here...these pick ups have become the worst driven cars on the road, whose drivers seem to believe they are hulk Hogan when they are in them..add the facts that they are massive and in the most part unnecessarily big, are highly polluting and they discourage companies from buying EVs instead and I'll be glad to see the back of the horrible things.
So on the pollution front is it better to have a van and a car, or just a pickup? If you’re using one for carrying equipment across fields etc you’re going to want the size and ground clearance eh?
I think it’s fair. If the pickup is only going to be used for business, then this does not incur a BIK at all. If people want to have a vehicle like this for personal use, then it’s only fair that they pay equivalent BIK to a car with similar emissions. I believe it only takes effect on pickups from April 2025 so people with an existing lease agreement won’t be affected
The BiK aspect will come in regardless of when you got the vehicle. I’m not really sure why you feel a vehicle that is primarily used for work and generate lots of tax revenue but can also be used to run an errand should mean the driver needs to pay £7k per year tax on it. Isn’t it better for the planet if you run one vehicle and not two?
@@DefinitelyNotAGuruI generally support removing the various carve outs and exceptions to taxes. I think it improves the fairness of the tax system. Let’s face it, the reason most people buy a double cab is driven by personal use requirement rather than business requirement. In that context, either everyone should pay company car tax for personal use, or nobody should.
I was thinking Of getting a ranger for my business I currently lease a caddy which will be ending lease early next year in February but since I need to commute workers to my workplace (a convenience store I wanted to get this double cab which will help me both getting goods and people to and from work , now it looks like back to plan B🤦🏻♂️😤. If I register now for 3 years lease will it become April 2025 law for me or until my lease ends
Most pickups on the road are there to dodge tax, my old boss had one for that reason, a Merc with a V8, he carried stuff for work but nothing that wouldn’t fit in a car boot. My current company has electric cars or PHEV for tax reasons, as that’s going to be less beneficial soon they were considering going back to pickups. This will stop that from happening so I’m all for it. For the small percentage that do have one as an essential tool there’s still a crew cab van which, let’s face it, is more practical in almost every situation.
Dodging tax is a crime. Being tax efficient using the rules to your advantage is just plain common sense. We pay tax on everything we earn, save, spend etc and even pay it in death. People who pay only what they legally have to should be commended.
A crew cab van is also taxed like a car. They also aren't the best if you have to tow or go onto constructions sites. Many crewcabs have tailgates so you cant load them with a forklift. Etc. I've done it. Being pushed out by a 5 tonne loading shovel does make you worry for the life expectancy of your van. All depends what job you do I guess.
Yes another tax on working people, also unfair as speed of coming in as if you have to get rid of quickly going to cost a fortune to get out of a lease plus it’s going to flood the market and kill the used prices, and as you say people will just buy the bigger ones as company cars more cost more co2 Nice one Rachel and kier, should be proud!
Sorry but I think this tax is right. These pick ups have high emissions. Do workers really need a double cab. They can still a 2 door pick up or a Van. We have never owned or needed a double cab pickup on our farm. We do not even need a 4 x 4 apart from the tractor. Often see these double cabs owned by people to avoid Company Car tax. Yes some people may be effected but there are choices.
So a family man needs a vehicle for work on construction sites and can’t afford a separate car, yet again the working class hit with more taxing! This country is definitely in the decline!
The existing capital allowances treatment will apply to those who purchase double cab pick-ups before April 2025. Transitional BIK arrangements will apply for employers that have purchased, leased, or ordered a double cab pick-up before April 6, 2025.

Tax efficiency is not tax dodging. I have no idea why people think it is. Being tax efficient is good common sense, being a tax dodger is illegal.
I think it’s unbelievable and a stupid thing to do. It’ll kill the truck sales in this country and potentially affect many economy. All the best Brett.
👍
👍👍
Please don’t give the U.S. any idea about new taxes.

Double cab vehicle alot for show for some, opposed to actually being used. Have you seen the BYD Shark ? Range extender pickup vehicle. Maybe they will bring to UK market
Yeah it may come here. I have 2 mates with double cabs, both use them for work on a daily basis.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru would I be right I'm saying if they just use for work and not personal use there is no tax due ?
Another blow to the farming community
Exactly
No, you can still have a proper pick up
In what way??

No doubt 👍👍
The chanceller stated that there was not taxation of working people, directly ther may not be until we look at the increase in car tax (BIK) but the employers increase in NI will push up food prices and also council tax just to mention 2 areas.
👍
The difference out of your monthly pay packet is huge. I mean there's looking for a little extra here and there from us, but that hike in tax could bankrupt a family. I can't see employers selling the vehicle to help their employees out any time before a lease is up either. Just awful !!
👍
To be honest and yes there's bad driving everywhere in all classes of vehicles I'd say pickups have the highest majority I've ever seen of these vehicles bullying other drivers. Mud sadly sticks. Excuse the pun. Cheers
👌
So what happens if I buy one as a car? I don’t own a business or anything I just want one to drive around. What would happen to the tax?
Not much, I expect the road tax (VED) will be pretty rough but it’ll have no effect on your income tax.
Yeah I’ve had a few in for review and enjoy the practicality
Stupid tax... When it comes to tow a 3T5 trailer to export my cars to France, we don't have a lot of choices ! Especially when your are not a multimillion company.

One important omission from your report, the rule changes from April 2025 only apply to new purchases or leases. Existing vehicles will not be affected until the lease ends or April 2029, which is the final cut off date.
For everything other than bik I believe
@@DefinitelyNotAGurucan someone clarify this, will the BIK change apply regardless of when the vehicle was bought?
They’ve completely bypassed the fact that nothing on the uk market is comparable to pick up truck for towing! And the double cab becomes somewhere to keep your tools dry/locked safe. Wasn’t labour for the working class? Seems like this budget has hit us the most!!
👍
Will I be affected by this being self employed and leasing the pickup? I claim the payment as a cost against tax but will have to change plans if this new tax affects that. Any ideas?
Speak to your accountant
For clarity a single or extended cab is unaffected ?
Only double cabs are affected
Next thing they need to do is to get commercial vehicles out of residential areas over night. Sick of seeing big vans stuffed in to domestic drives and worse still on the road way too close to junctions.
🤔 I see no issue with parking your own vehicle on your own drive.
your surname karon freak
Does this only change how they are viewed for tax purposes.
Or across the board?
For example, previously certain banks would not provide vehicle loans/finance for commercial vehicles to private owners.
Will they recognise the governments move on this and allow customers to purchase these vehicles themselves.
And ergo skipping the BiK tax.
The downside being that those who would deduct the VAT now longer can do so?
You'd have to ask your accountant that one
@ have to find me an accountant first,
And the money to necessitate one. 😂
@ 😁
Another tax dodge plugged
Not a tax dodge, working people playing by the rules; nothing dodgy about it.
Don’t forget that plenty use them for work to generate VAT and other forms of tax. If you want milk, don’t put a tax on cows.
Is there any mention/ impact if it’s only ‘incidental’ personal use?
No.
I buy new pickups as my own personal vehicles, and I pay tax obviously. I really hope these changes in the law don't cause manufacturers like Isuzu to pull out of the UK market.
👍
G’day mate, so the single cab is not applicable, what about the extra cab?
Single cab is ok
@ what about extra cab? It has seats in the back but its very tight.
If it’s a single cab you’re safe, if it’s a double cab you’re not.
Ah ok. No idea mate but I’m guessing there looking at 4 door pickups. You’d need to try and get an answer from HMRC which might not be fun.
What happens if there is directors of a building who both have trucks paid for by the company what would happen then?
You’d both have to pay a lot of tax - speak to your accountant 👍
I could be wrong, but I think this only applies if you go for an all singing, all dancing, fully loaded top of range pickup truck. Basically, a car. If you buy a box standard basic steel wheel "commercial" truck and prove it is just a work horse, the extra tax shouldn't be to pay.
If it's a double cab the tax will kick in, if it's a single cab you're safe.
I read somewhere that if you purchased before April 2025 transitional tax applies. Is this for the employer or employee ? i.e. employer for capital allowances and employee for BIK ?
I think it’s for all but bik from what I’ve read but check with your accountant
This just makes running a small company harder again what will be taxed next Ur uniform I can't believe the way they think this going to give growth to this country they have to realise that more productivity from the people who drive these trucks means more revenue which means more tax in other ways they will get the money in the end but in a fair way they will be taxing Ur hair next I'm lucky I have none
👍
Total joke! I’m a wild life ranger and need a pick up.
👍
Does it cover defender and discovery commercial?
No, I don’t think so
So I guess Vehicle Excise Duty (Road Tax) will also be taxed as a private car on emissions, that will be loads 😳
I would assume so
I like a video from new studio 🙌🏻👍
Happy to hear that!
Surely 4 door pickups always needed to have a 1000kg load capacity to avoid Vat and company car tax
Yes I think so, but from April 2025 the goalposts have changed and all double cab pickups will now get the shaft.
1000kg wasn’t always a thing, when it came in I think the defender was one of the few (or maybe the only) that was eligible, then the Japanese just repeated their navarra’s etc and what happened, a field full of pickups with broken backs
Double cab pickup trucks are going to be sold massively between now and next April and beyond wouldn't you say?
I would assume so

How on earth am I ment to get work in the forest with the machines fuel ,parts spares ,o I forget I'm ment to use public transport this government at a bunch of fools 👆
👍
Hi, does this apply to vehicles that were bought outright and paid for in full?
If it was done completely privately it doesn’t; if you bought it through the business and run it as a company vehicle it does
Just because someone you know use it to get a bit of a break from the tax man, does not mean everyone is doing it. People use them for work plan and simple. This budget has done everything to destroy the people who make jobs and push the prices up for the people who buy stuff. Either part arw a different cheek of the same arse hole.

So will that apply to electric ? 🤔
It’ll be treated the same as any other car, so the same as an electric car
Yes farmer friend told me this on friday.

Will farmers be effected?
Those with pickups as company vehicles will
I'm going to be honest here...these pick ups have become the worst driven cars on the road, whose drivers seem to believe they are hulk Hogan when they are in them..add the facts that they are massive and in the most part unnecessarily big, are highly polluting and they discourage companies from buying EVs instead and I'll be glad to see the back of the horrible things.
How dare you, I bet I'm a better driver than you are....Mr perfect arent you....you're just so jealous....

I was thinking
Of getting a ranger for my business I currently lease a caddy which will be ending lease early next year in February but since I need to commute workers to my workplace (a convenience store I wanted to get this double cab which will help me both getting goods and people to and from work , now it looks like back to plan B🤦🏻♂️😤. If I register now for 3 years lease will it become April 2025 law for me or until my lease ends
April 2025 according to everything I’ve read
I believe my 2023 Maxus e deliver 3 Ev van going to be the same as a diesel van for road fun licence do you concur ?
I don’t know
Maybe the manufacturers can de rate the trucks to 999kg ?
That wouldn’t help
Why only pickups and not double cab vans? What about all the double cab transits and transporters? Same logic surely? Or, will they be next….
Probably
Yes another tax on working people, also unfair as speed of coming in as if you have to get rid of quickly going to cost a fortune to get out of a lease plus it’s going to flood the market and kill the used prices, and as you say people will just buy the bigger ones as company cars more cost more co2
Nice one Rachel and kier, should be proud!
👍
Perhaps this is mean, but a bloke I knew chose a double cab truck for no other reason than it looked nice..... 😅

This is why we don’t have a car industry, I will be cancelling my truck ,
👌
Woaw bit in your face this one, back off a bit Jim. Watching on my TV and you've got a 2ft high head !!
😉
Does this equate to a ten year old double cab?
Yep
On the flip side, it will be based on the list price when it was new, 10 years ago, so much cheaper
@ hi Jim , cheers for your response. Glen
Fair enough, I have a different opinion.
This is the Labour Party for you. They have hammered the working person. So for those of you who voted Labour thanks.
👍
a peddle car is the only option im afraid 🤣
👌
So a family man needs a vehicle for work on construction sites and can’t afford a separate car, yet again the working class hit with more taxing! This country is definitely in the decline!
👍
Ill just buy a new Land rover 90 with just the front seats. Its not a double cab and will a good spend to save tax.

The existing capital allowances treatment will apply to those who purchase double cab pick-ups before April 2025.
Transitional BIK arrangements will apply for employers that have purchased, leased, or ordered a double cab pick-up before April 6, 2025.
