Bandai 1/48 Partisan X-Wing from Andor/Rogue One - Part 2 Weathering

  • If you've fallen in love with the new show Andor, you may have seen an X-Wing painted in black and white colours used by Saw Gerrara's partisan forces - and if you remember the original Rogue One movie, there were several including a crashed one in Jedha City.
This is my attempt at making one using the functional 1/48 scale Bandai X-Wing that I bought second hand. The kit had already been assembled - with a few flaws and dings - and in the previous video I did the initial paint job whereas here its all about weathering.

Chipping, scratching and abrasions made easy! Either a fall-off-my-bike episode or --- clever use of a sanding stick! Good stuff, very much enjoyed this.

@@beckersmodels well let’s hope hearing from me is good!
Anyway, I struggle with ratios but this one: how can one set a ratio say 1/350 when the original doesn’t exist!
Also how can a 1:72 fits in one’s hand from one source look like a giant 1:48 from another.? I just dint get it! How can one rely on getting the larger 1:48?

Excellent build! I too wish Bandai made this kit without the electronics. As well as a 1/48 Y-Wing. But alas...

This is a great video set - definitely learned a lot on the weathering and dark painting. But I think someone hacked Chris’ channel and did a deep fake - because the X-wing was done up WITH the landing gears! And we know Chris would never do anything that heretical! 😮

Its on the list to 3D print at bigger scale, like 1/32 or larger....

That was a really enjoyable couple of videos and I must admit it looks awesome in the black & white all it needs is a large silver fern as a squadron marking and it would be perfect😁.

Excellent! I have one of these kits in the stash and I think it might have to move up to the “to be built this year” list. Always enjoy your work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Great looking build out. The entire aerodynamic shape is obviously different from any current day " aircraft", it'd be nice for a change to go in a different genre than " Earthy" vehicles. Super weathering and the fact you don't have to do decals is also a nice change. There were certainly more parts than I thought. Also enjoyed the use of dry brushing with oils. Any other motorized kits on the game plan? Don't forget to buy your modeling mascot some chew bones for Christmas. Cheers, standing by for the next video. Forgot to mention, your French figure company is incredible. They had just a helmet 1/32 scale - you could see the inside helmet liner. Plus how is 3D printer coming along. , it is totally awesome what a hobbyist can do these days.

I never built a Bandai kit. How do they stack up against Tamiya, Revell, AMT and what not?

    • @beckersmodels
      @beckersmodels  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Far superior to all of them, with Tamiya close. If Bandai made military and aircraft models I wouldn't build anything else...

@@beckersmodels Thanks for your quick response! I wonder why they never went to the military side of things.

They are highly detailed snap kits (glue optional), they were the improved version of injected molded kits when they (Bandai) took over the Star Wars license from Fine Molds (aka now Revell rebranded kits), but have now also lost the licensing.
Stacked up against AMT, ERTL, MPC, Revell, Star Wars kits, they are superior in detail. Tamiya, I don't think make Star Wars kits, well not that I know of, perhaps the odd diecast toy but not injection mold kits.
Model manufacturer "Round 2" have now acquired the Star Wars license and started reviving the old AMT/MPC assortments (with updated and improved detailing) in the Star Wars genre.

@@DarksouIjah No worries - Bandai did do military things in the past (1970s I believe) but I think because of the way the Japanese market is segmented, they don't or can't do military stuff, just Gundam/Scifi etc. Although they also make some amazing civilian subjects as well, I've got one of their civilian ships and its brilliant - the Chikyu.
