Thanks for telling me that! THAT is my main reason for starting this channel. Not necessarily to proselytize Dylan (haha, yeah, like HE needs ME, haha), but to hopefully offer at least some enthusiastic commentary (and sometimes some different insight perhaps) into this man's art. My favorite comments are like yours, and also those where people tell me things like "hey, I never thought much about that Dylan album but after watching your video I need to give it another chance!" Thanks again for the great comment. Much appreciated.
The first performance of Dylan I ever saw was this version of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door'. Just incredible. This whole performance means so much to me. His vocal style here is something I'm very fond of. I love the version of 'Love Minus Zero' too from the DVD. It's funny how even when they want him to do a 'greatest hits' set, Dylan still continues to do them how HE wants to 😂 Such a cool guy. I can't wait for the 'Time Out of Mind' review.
Picked this up today for a dollar and what a great selection of songs and performances. Really loved his versions of John Brown and Dignity. What a great way to spend a dollar. Have you heard the Shadow Kingdom album yet ? Another must have album.
I was so annoyed with the false promotion of that very silly Shadow Kingdom “event” that I have not been too interested in it now, but I should have a listen, yes. As silly as the video was, the music was very good.
Whats not to like about this album!? Couldnt agree more. Great review. Its an album that just makesme smile my face off! I saw Bob on tbe Time Out of Mind tour, and I was quite near the stage. When he played the harmonica it was a transcendent moment. He looks you in the eye when he plays it. Unbelievably brilliant and expressive.
Yep I saw that tour also, Paul, and I too was impressed with how Bob gazed at the audience members. Hate to say it due to it sounding rather silly, but even after all these years I still feel like it is quite surreal to be so close to such a living legend when I see him in concert.....yeah, that sounded silly, but there it is.....
Have you listened to the Unplugged rehearsals here on TH-cam? They’re so great! Wonderful versions of Absolutely Sweet Marie, Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright, I Want You, Hazel, and Love Minus Zero. Wished they had kept those songs on the setlist. And I can’t understand how there hasn’t been a Bootleg Series of those rehearsals. Anyway, Dylan recordings are truly infinite!
I know what you mean - I can never understand why so many live albums came out as single discs. I remember when live albums were almost always double or even triple albums. To release a single album only requires the omission of many great performances.
GREAT Review!!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS album, I play it all the time!! I own the DVD and it's shared with friends and I play it probably as much as the CD, if not more.
Same here, Kurt. I find myself listening to this one a lot when driving....and yeah, I've watched the DVD many times also. Just a great 1990s live document of the man.
Someone showed me a picture and I just laughed Dignity never been photographed Love this line in my opinion a great show loves it thank you Cheers. Jeff
yep always liked the unplugged performances i got the bootleg showcasing both nights some really good versions of I Want You, My Back Pages, Tonight Ill Be Staying ..among others that were sadly not included.. Anyway really good album love Dignity and John Brown rare songs that are great to have great video Jeff P.S. I dont think with god on our side was an encore on the night of recording. ah just checked your right it was the last song of the first show.
Every instrument's crisp because every instrument was plugged or mic'ed up. Nothing against the concert or album, but it's shouldn't be called unplugged. (oh you said so at the end :) ) The production by Don Was definitely makes the sound go "back" to the one on Under the Red Sky, very different from the raw, uncut, dare I say unplugged, songs on the traditional twins. I do love the vocals in this performance. He's less "nasal" than on those previous albums, which in his case strikes a good balance. The instruments are too clean for me. I like the warm sound by The Band or the Rolling Thunder ensemble much more than the cleanliness provided by these session musicians. It doesn't go too well with Dylan's own rough delivery. It's always a pleasure to hear his staple songs in a different jacket, whether dirty or clean. This album didn't turn me on nor did it put me off. (btw, my father is not a big Dylan fan; himself being a rather good singer and a masterful harmonica player, he can't get past the sound of those two instruments, to appreciate the man. I must say, I dig his harmonica when he's in full control of it. With the mouthpiece, not so much. My father calls it "stoofhout", literally "firewood" or "stovewood", but the word intends to mimic the sound of continuously alternating breathing in and breathing out.)
Yes, I always chuckle at the “unplugged” claim where electricity is fully involved. It is a shame because, as an acoustic instrumentalist, I am fully aware of the challenges and rewards of properly blending truly unplugged instruments in a musical fashion. This, anyway, is one of my favorite of Dylan’s live albums, but no, it does not come close to the passion and expressive power of his 1974-1976 years.
I grew up with Dylan's music since the '60s and '70s, and I really regret that I took a break from Dylan's music from 1979 or so 'til 1997, because I listen now to those great '80s and '90s live performances he put out during those years and I kick myself for missing those concerts! I've been trying to make up for it ever since '97......
Well, they’ll stone you and say that it’s the end Then they’ll stone you and then they’ll come back again They’ll stone you when you’re riding in your car They’ll stone you when you playing your guitar Yes, but I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned alright.
I have always been a Dylan fan but you are making me a bigger one. Might have to change my handle to "Dylan fan". Great job!

I can't wait for the TOOM review either! Lookin' forward to it very much. (Thanks for reminding me of the Love Minus Zero performance on the DVD!)
Just adding a late night thank you Jeff a few years later . Your words are always masterful in thoughtfulness and incitefullness . Peter
Thanks Peter. Much appreciated. Jeff

Yeah, I remember him coming back onto the stage (on the video release) and doing God On Our Side as the encore. Thanks, Trevor.

Your reviews r great. This shud be a double disc blu ray..

“John Brown went off to war…”
Great song!
@@CalicoSilverone of his very best. Right up there for me
A couple days ago I bought the DvD and saw it. I Love Desolation Row on this album!!!
Great! Dylan looks to be enjoying himself here and I thought it was a great performance all around. Thanks for your comment, Guillem. Jeff
