I had no idea about existence of Hobonichi or Travelers Notebook in November last year. I got into Bullet Journal TH-cam and decided I'm gonna do a bullet journal, with cute spreads and trackers in a huge A5 book. It lasted about 12 days. Then I set up a reading journal, in a square a5-ish Archer and Olive. It's a fantastic 150 gsm or so paper, dot grid. It's chunker and it was so much fun. But because of how involved it was with all the decorations I didn't keep up with it, then spent 6 hours to fill it out and I'm afraid it will be a chore to keep it for the rest of the year. But I don't want to give up. I have plans on how to orginize my reading journal next year and it's def not going to be hard cover huge Archer and Olive book.
sorry in advance for a long comment :)
So after all this I stumble across Hobonichi Weeks I think it was about October when everyone got their order for next year and were doing their hauls and unboxing I saw Weeks Mega and I was in love. I got one for myself and hopped on the train of Hobonichi. I loooove my Weeks Mega I hooked up everyone around me on it.... And then... 4 months in... I discovered Travelers Notebook. And don't get me wrong I SAW it before. It never clicked. It felt weird and unsteady like all unbound books are.... So I disregard it. And I do not know what happened, i think I saw someone flipping through their actual Travel record of either Paris or Amsterdam and it was full of maps, train tickets, little trinkets, coins, pictures and stamps. It was a glorious mess of creativity and the cupid stroke my heart. Now I own a passport size TN and can't wait to get the regular size to start my 2025 in it. I'll finish Mega cause I like to finish what I started and I do not feel like backfilling, but next year... :)
I also have a 5 year Hobonichi. Love that thing. I'm waiting truly for it magic to kick in on year 2 :)

The Cousin is life. I started the year in B6 and it just wasn't big enough. So I ordered the Spring and I love it. My Weeks has ebbed and flowed - workout/health journal/ on the go planner/ ignored and neglected planner.... whatever. It is my hobby and I love changing my system and dwelling in all of the planner possibilities. My 5 year is my archive. (And I am so behind in it...) Just subscribed, thanks for sharing!

Thinking of your A6 as an analog Tumblr is such a great way of looking at it. I'm going to have to start looking at mine like that. :D
I'm glad your system is working out for you.

Just found you and subbed. I’ve just moved to a cousin as a catch all planner and using my phone for on the go planning and tasks/lists. I am using a Hobonichi A6 5 year from this year for that snapshot memory you mentioned. I’m looking forward to being able to look back when I come around each year for a new entry. I had 6 planners on the go, now it’s 2 and my phone. I know it will change later on, it always does. Loving the gingham feel and hand t through about archiving in the cute covers, I find the Hobonichi covers too bulky too.

Welcome and thank you for the sub!! Congrats on getting down from 6 planners to 2! (Although I would also congratulate you for going from 2 planners to 6! 🥰) I am so so so in love with the cousin I can’t believe I put off getting one for so long. I’ve been tempted to try a 5 year but find it so overwhelming- you will have to let me know how it goes. X

I can completely relate to the planner struggle you had last week as well as the struggle of wanting to buy something you don't need (but want nevertheless).
Life has been a bit overwhelming lately and even though the rational part of my brain knows that changing my planner will not fix any of my problems, I'll just have the same problems and less money, the urge to change is so strong. In the end I had to write in my todo list for this week and next: don't buy a hobonichi.
The biggest problem is not that I want a A6 techo (which is currently in 54% discount) but that I also want the Tragen cover and a few notebooks to go with it and if I buy just a little bit more I get free shipping and suddenly we are talking about a 125€ purchase.
Now I'm negotiating with my self that I need to get through at least next week and if I still want to change I can think about it.
Glad to see you are enjoying the system you have. Looking forward to see more videos from you.

Oh gosh I’ve been there, and if it helps, I went down that road and ended up using only the basic things I knew would work and none of the other stuff I bought to get the free shipping or because it was on sale.
Be kind to yourself and remember notebooks are just notebooks, when it comes to planning, journaling and using our books to help us - any old book will do.
      Xxx

Hi there, getting really into Journalling as a hobby again! Having major FOMO for Hobonichi, but I just can't justify the cost! 😮 love your covers and the layout of these planners!

    • @Jojournals90
      @Jojournals90  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thank you so much!! It’s so smart of you to avoid the hobonichi just because of FOMO especially if you are just getting back into the hobby, I think a brand called Kimbor or something similar to that is a more budget friendly hobonichi style planner if you wanted to try something similar.

I love how you divide up your weekly pages. I just got my first hobonichi cousin in Feb. and I am loving it so much. Would love to hear your process of setting up your weeklies or see closer pics. Are you on IG?

Aww thank you, i will film a set up video when I’ve got my system down a bit better. I don’t have any closer pics or IG just because I like to maintain some privacy and not have to blur everything 🫣. But I can deffo show some “before the personal bits” videos. ❤️

@@Jojournals90 That would be awesome. I am more interested in your categories and how you divide up the sections than any personal info. I completely understand not wanting to share personal info. I wouldn't either.

Hell-O 💖 I'm using a kinbor weeks (a hobonichi weeks alternative) for memory keeping/mini journaling/scrapbooking and using the uniball one p pen for writing, i love it so much that I bought a second refill ❤

I use a lot of different notebooks for different journalling purposes, same goes for pen types. I landed a job in cybersecurity so I'll need a commonplace book for the function, I already am using a notebook I got at Sneakerness Rotterdam 2021 for career journalling(from Klekt, brand unknown but the paper is fine to write on). For exercising journalling, designing and doodling I finished a Kokuyo Gambol notebook, went with a Rhodia notebook for personal journaling. I did get a Lamy Noto ballpoint, Kaweco Sport 2022 Mellow Blue (M-nib), Pilot "shin-kai" ink, Midori dot grid A5 journal/notebook and Clairefontaine writing pad for landing the job. I might need a work planner as well but for now I'm looking for more high end fountain pens as the Kaweco is my most expensive one at the moment

Thanks for sharing! I work with a lot of people in cybersecurity and there’s so much to know so I bet that commonplace book comes in handy.
Exciting you are coming into the high end fountain pen world. I would recommend Japanese pens for the high end. And my other advice is to try and try them out in store before buying (one I’ve learnt the hard way!)
      Thanks for commenting!! Xx

What cover is that on your hobo weeks with the Velcro closure?
Enjoyed your video, now a new subscriber😉

Welcome to the channel! The cover is the standard hobonichi weeks cover but I’ve added little Velcro dots onto the bookmark tab thing and then the back of the cover. I definitely stole this idea from someone somewhere on TH-cam 🥰

It won’t let me paste a link but it’s the 10 slot zipper case from Galen Leather. They have so many varieties and are all handmade. Really recommend. (Mine is the Smokey grey)
