Fishing for Large Cob in Port St John's and some large Garrick as a bonus. (Mulloway and Leerfish)

- In a recent fishing trip to Port St John's we catch some large Cob/Kabeljou/Mulloway and Garrick/Leerfish on artificial lures. These fish are caught from a small boat in the mighty Umzimvubu river trolling small (rapala) type lures and spinning bucktail jigs. Catching fish this size on light tackle is always a challenge and extremely rewarding particularly when they are released to swim away strong. These fish are prime breeding stock and now back in the system to spawn and reproduce for future generations. #dirtyprawn #fishing #lighttackle #garrick #amia #leerfish #liche #lichia #lichiaamia #cob #kob #mulloway #rapala #rapalafishing #bucktail #bucktailjig #boat #boatfishing #southafrica #transkei #wildcoast #river

Brilliant fishing! What rod and reel setup are you using?
thanks Michael, I use a 7ft Assassin supernova with a Shimano Sustain and a Shimano slx with an Okuma ITX. Both reels 3000 size.
Great stuff !
Shimano slx is that a mh or h.
Thanks for sharing the great entertainment .
Hi, its a MH. Probably a bit light for fish over 10kg but a good rod at a good price.
what bakkie is the best for those conditions
Hi Peter, I assume you mean for the road conditions? The road to PSJ is pretty good with tar all the way.
Well done bud, what is the places name where you guys stayed on this trip?
Its called Purple Indigo. Pretty busy tho so book in advance. we couldn't get in there this week.
Why did you take the rapala out and put a bucktail in its mouth for the pic?
ye probably best to have left it out but I got a treble hook in my hand once holding a cob for a pic so i try avoid holding fish with lures with trebles
Do you prefer bucktails to softplastics? I see the new rapala range looks good, tpe material
Hi, I prefer the bucktails. Less repairs and changing during fishing. I reckon they pretty similar in catch rate tho.
@@FISHINGTHEWILDCOAST Yeah, tend to agree with you there, more durable too,how you finding the Dirty prawn bucktails?ties a excellent bucktail, there's another tier making resin heads that sink slower
Ye Im pretty stoked with Dirty Prawn. I tie a few of my own with feathers also. What brand are the resin heads?@@carlocosta1706
@@FISHINGTHEWILDCOAST 4xthefun,up to 11g,uses synthetic
Is there a website?@@carlocosta1706
