What a fantastic resource!! The 4K version is amazing - I do like the way that I can pull the scanned images and walk outside the walls along the Ponte Vecchio Bridge, too.
I visit Florence every year and thoroughly enjoyed Xander and Michael's guide to the hidden (and not so hidden) parts of the city - what a great show. The technology is incredible, but I am also curious (like Chris, below) as to whether the BBC (or the production company) will release the scanned images for public use - better yet, release them under a Creative Commons licence..? :)

This was a great series and particularly enjoyed the episode on Florence (a place I visit with my family every year). The Vasari Corridor is now closed to the public and may not re-open I believe and projects such as this provide a great public service to allow people to view such places who may not get the chance to otherwise. I was really looking forward to looking through the full detail of the 3D maps created by this series as advertised throughout that would be available on the website. To my dismay they only seem to have 3 minute taster 3D videos as above available at the moment. These are very good quality but I had thought we would get the chance to download the full 3D maps for each city. Does anyone know what the plan is for these? It would seem a shame to pay this company probably a substantial amount of British taxpayers money to create these wonderful maps then restrict those taxpayers in what they can view of them?!

Ladies and gentlemen, the 'pointless man himself', Mr Alexander Armstrong, the man who conquered Persia and burnt our palace. Don't believe it? See Persepolis in Shiraz for yourself..

What does Alexander Armstrong have to do with Persia?
