Thanks so much. Drivers side window spontaneously would not go up - just as I pulled up to work on a wet and windy day :(. I could not find the part at the wreckers, or in stock at any of the auto parts stores in town. Your video was the best thing I could find on google to confirm that this was probably the issue, and easily saved me $180 from the dealers.
I had this problem twice on my VT and some unscrupulous bastard milked me $550 for the 2 repairs. Followed you video and in 20 mins I was done. Thanks very much
Good to see someone going into detail on how to remove and fix car parts/products.... I know my way around cars better then knowing the back of my hand but this video was such a big help thanks heaps and hope to see more in detail videos on our Aussie cars
Nice job thanks bro.. Here I was tryna get other people to fix it.. Nex minute I remember we have TH-cam in this day and age lol.. Very thankful, thank you..
We have the same problem with our left rear window and have ordered a new window windy thingy. Even had an auto electrician look at the problem and they pried out the switch without taking the trim part out and snapped off the left tab, they couldn't fix it either. I love your old school approach to repairing stuff instead of just replacing parts.
Just did my car and worked great. If you break the plastic under the buttons I got timber meat scewers and shaved then down to fit. Works fine. I know plenty of people with the same problem. My car has done a lot of Km's and I don't want to spend 1 more cent on it. Also if you don't have CLR I used metal polish and this works just fine. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks for the great video. Helped me out after our drivers window suddenly stopped working. Followed your video step by step and now all the windows work like new. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Saved us some big bucks.
You don't even have to remove the green plastic part. The switch box comes on its own and the green part stays where it is. I did this 2 days ago on a VX SS Manual and noticed that the leather surrounding the gear stick overlaps the plastic and can't be removed so easily. A little screwdriver between the plastic and the switch box pops it out and there's enough length on the cable to disconnect and remove the unit separately. Great video though and it helped me fix both front windows.
Yep! Worked a treat! One of the plastic pins inside the button head had melted. Cleaned it up, fashioned a new pin out of a clip from a pen and now working just like new. LOL!
Hi, great video and it helped me to fix my sons VT power windows. One thing though - beware re-seating the metal contacts (two per button). They have a "cradle" to sit in and if you do it wrong, like I did first, the whole assembly shorts out on reconnection!! I re-pulled the assembly apart and re-seated the contacts correctly and it worked. So, watch how you put the contacts back in!
I love a free solution to a problem. Thank you very much. All it cost me was an hour or so, as well as a little cursing and heavy breathing ;| Someone had been there before me and broken most of the little plastic tangs on the module. The drivers switch had also been butchered so that one of the locating holes was broken. Also, one of the little white plastic legs inside that switch had been replaced with a metal one, so i might source a replacement switch if it annoys me enough
Hi just wanted to say thanks for doing this video. I’ve got a stuck switch on that panel in my VX Senator, and your tutorial helped me a lot. Not sure if I’ll be able to repair the switch but I can replace the whole panel relatively cheaply with your help.
Sorry mate, I only really made this video as I had to fix mine, so I figured I would share it with everyone in case they had the same problem. I do love the green also. I've changed the dash now though, it's white now. The green faded heaps and looked terrible so it had to go :).
Thanks heaps man very detailed helpful video I as someone with next to no mechanical or car knowledge followed your video and it worked perfectly had a bit of trouble getting the buttons out of the casing the clips are very fiddley but got there with only one broken clip but didn't matter unfortunately it didn't fix my rear windows I will have to get new motors but was interesting to see how filthy and even smelly it was in there and how badly it needed a clean
good video, i had the same problem too. i thought it was the motors dying on me. god it annoyed me. im trying this tomorrow! thanks mate loving the vx videos
Excellent, your video made my job a lot easier and cheaper and saved me alot of frustration, unfortunately it did not fix my problem but i did find other things wrong with the switches that would have caused me grief later on. It looks like the problem is my window regulator, you wouldn't have a video on the removal of one ?
THANK YOU so much! i had to do this in a vz, its a bit different and alot harder, but it gave me a basic idea. vz's are a lot more fiddley, its hard to believe i know haha. Thanks again!
any idea where we can buy a new switch assembly that includes everything from above the plug? I butchered the pins you push in when you detach the switch assembly from the circuit board…
Hey mate, cheers for the vid it fixed up my widow a treat. However I'm having an issue with my passenger switch, it's as if it's reversed, when I pull up the window goes down and visa versa. Any ideas on how I can fix it? Thought about switching wires in the door but not sure
Vz both my front door windows just stopped working properly. Have tried 2 different switched. Works but ive gotta hit the switch a billion tines for it to go down
Good video, my passenger side wouldn't go up, took it apart and one of the white plastic rods that rock on the contacts was melted almost back to where it goes into the button and spring. Ended up just buying a new unit from holden... $115 :'(
@denno021 Yeah could have done a lot of things.. problem was my window was stuck all the way down and I had about 30 min before I had to leave my car out in public for ages so I just bit the bullet, at least the new one is nice and tight on all the switches. Typical spare parts guy behind the desk was trying to tell me you can't fix them despite me having it apart in front of him!
@xfadetoblack Oh damn.. Guess it's too late now, but did you go to a wreckers? I'm sure you could have found a power window switch there and just taken the white rod out and put it into your switch. Heck, you might have even been able to get it from an earlier model commodore (but don't quote me on that).
Thank you so fucking much this worked i have bought new windows motor and regulator and changed relay and fuse everything and was still no go then i saw this and tried it and worked like a charm thank you thank you
Anyone got a replacement idea for the spring-loaded plastic rods in the switches? they are terrible in the aftermarkets especially door switches wear out fast.
THNX M8. Good work BUT when you said "this can be a bit tricky" you cut away obviously while you cursed and swore why wont this pop out easy? Should of pointed out to lift each switch as if closing windows and it falls apart by itself!!
oh okay. mine is clicking from behind the fuse box i have pulled the switch out and cleaned it, i have changed the relays etc and it is still doing it and even the motor and regulator has been replaced
Now six later the plastic hasw turned Brittle. Ive done x2 now and even if Gentle the Tab Snap. thats ok But most of the pivot points on that plastic rockers have split and wont stay in place. So $30 for a new one F/ that look in ebay first PLUS every green LED Light is blown. I'm gonna replave with Tri colour flashing for fun. Anyone want a custom one?
Bloody good when someone takes time & shares their know-how. I’m eternally grateful for blokes that take the time to do this stuff!

Fantastic mate, will try this tonight as same issue on my ss ute and just had a price for new set of switches of $302 from the local holden dealer

Thank you! I'm having the same trouble with my VZ power window switches. Only difference is my driver's window has problems going down, not up.
Thanks for taking the time to record and upload this mate! Works an absolute treat and no doubt saved me a small fortune!
Gday Ben, are the screws in the same place for a VT as they are in the video?
Great vid. I couldn't repair mine, but got an after market switch unit for $35, and used these great instructions to install it.
cheers mate!. my passenger side window was stuck down, just bought a new switch unit all together and replaced, works fine, thanks!
Followed this and did same for my 2000 VT, thankyou my man for posting this!!

Many thanks for the great explanation. Requires patience but I prevailed and my window now goes back up again.
Great fix.. I don't have electric windows, but that was a great fix.. love your soldering iron stand.

@denno021 Yeah could have done a lot of things.. problem was my window was stuck all the way down and I had about 30 min before I had to leave my car out in public for ages so I just bit the bullet, at least the new one is nice and tight on all the switches. Cheers mate.. Too easy
I'll try this next time mine goes, I thought the mechanism was broken so i've just replaced the whole switch $70 later lol
Hi mate don’t know if you will see this but what’s the name of the whole part you took out looking to replace mine???
Anyone got a replacement idea for the spring-loaded plastic rods in the switches? they are terrible in the aftermarkets especially door switches wear out fast.
